Title: GUNS OR SWORDS ?
Post by: snow_RAveN on April 26, 2004, 02:03:56 pm
Basicaly fantasy Vs sci-fi

so would you rather have a gun or use a sword ( any mele weapon) AND no light sabers They are a hybrid of a sword and a gun merged together Any thing along that line will be considerd blasphemy and hertics will be shot or hacked and if found still alive they will be shot or hacked again !

for me it would be guns ! ive grown up watching people shot other people in the movies guns just DO the job better

Talking about reality I\'d prefer to have to use neither. :P
Talking about games I\'d prefer melee weapons, as there are by far fewer games where you have to do that. Guns do the job better, right -- but that\'s just too easy ;)

i\'d prefer melee weapons, anyone can point a gun to someone else\'s head and pull the trigger, there is no skill in that, take some effort, use a sword, slice his head.

atleast it\'s more fun to watch

In games I\'m kinda into balancing. I love sci-fi games were you can shoot with all those weirdo weapons, I love fantasy \\ medieval games with all those swords and maces and axes (and ooh, the claws! I love the claws!), and I also like \'modern\' games with normal guns that shoot bullets instead of lasers and stuff.

In reality, Gattling Guns. Preferably that one from Doom (forgot wich one of them, maybe 2). And definitly not that new crap... What\'s it\'s name? Vulcan. Bah.

Reminds me of a scene from Indiana Jones. Where an opponent of him demonstrates his skill with swords by swinging them around. Like a really heavy dude, indy looking anoyed pulls his gun and just shoots him :D

hehe, yea, funny thing about that was that it was an improvisation by harrison ford, since he wasn\'t supposed to shoot him outright, he was ill when they filmed that sequence and harrison just wanted a break instead of a long fight :P

speaking of weapons, I like both kinds, although nothing beats a giant twohanded sword of STEEL slicing through one\'s opponents :D :P

fantasy nothing beats a good old katana slashing :P
although the minigun is a very close second and to tempting too

If I\'m gonna fight a person and not some AI, it\'s gotta be swords all the way.  You can never get the same feeling of a duel fighting with guns as you do with melee weaponry.  And I\'m way better at kicking people\'s arses at Bushido Blade that any FPS game.

Bushido Blade all the way!

As in, if I don\'t have guns nobody has guns? Then I\'d choose swords. More fun, and no sniper rifles.

If I have a sword and everyone else has guns... guns.

I think gunplay, when executed correctly, has a certain flair for it.  I\'ve yet to see a video game with exceptional gunplay (I\'m talking Equilibrium-quality gunplay).  On that matter, I\'ve yet to see a game with breathtaking swordplay, as well, so there\'s still plenty of room for growth.

Perhaps if someone had the brilliant idea to cross Parappa and Bushido Blade (Or Way of the Samurai)...

As for movies I\'d say I prefer guns, and I have no strong feelings in terms of weapons in video games.

better

*Offs Snow\'s head with a light-sabre style sword-thingy*
\"Dead men shoot/hack nobody.\"
:P

Seriously, depends on the number of enemies.
Swords->Dueling
Guns->War/hoard

I prefer fantasy to sci-fi most of the time, but every-so- often, I might see a good sci-fi shooter.

indeed, but by god it gets the job done and victory by any means is what is important. (theoretically speaking...) I pick guns.

There is defintelly skill when the enemy is a good distance off and running like hell as well as spraying you with bullets.
Although if there standing still and are 2ft away I see your point.

Although if I had to choose between the two I\'d say (for sport purposes) fencing because it looks more fun rather than shooting cute little ducks.

But if it was for real I don\'t think I could kill somebody so I don\'t think I would bother with either.

Anyone can pick up a sword, and slice someone\'s head too...
Both swords and guns need training if you want to be good in using them.

Guns are a bit more user-friendly, but not in an annoying way (like Word\'s paperclip).

Saying \"this is better because it\'s harder to use\" is pretty stupid. What\'s the point?

Guns are good for certain things, while swords are good for others.

A trained person with a sword will surely beat a trained (or even a master) person with a gun.
The point in the gun is to kill that swordsman before he got a chance to use his sword.

Also, when thinking about it, swords are alot messier than guns. Unless you use a shotgun, I guess...

A knife takes more fear from someone then a gun....

And \'course u can \'\'cut\'\' of a lo of thins with a sharp meelee weapons ^^

Yes you can use your ancient unique amazingly expensive sword to cut something like an apple with it when your hungry :).
I prefer a gun even if it doesn\'t fear someone. I dare you to come running to me with your sword while ive got a gun pointed at you :P

No dude i wont run to you....
I\'ll wait in the shadow when its the time too strike..and slice you open....
Title:
Post by: TheTaintedSoul on May 04, 2004, 07:26:35 pm
hehe :D if i dont see you first. With a gun i wont have to hide like a coward ;). Thats the difference between carrying a gun and a sword.

All he does is use his grenade launcher (which is of course a form of gun) on those shadows, or just waste a bit of amunition...
If there are a lot of shadows you might stand a chance, but you\'d have to be incredibly silent, since he\'d shoot the slightest sound.

As for coolness in looks and not performance in function, the sword has the gun beat by a 3:1 ratio.

awww thats a loada bull

now iam not sure how many of you have seen that stupid movie where tom cruise acted as some fake sword weilding person now even with that much skill the gunnmen still managed to kick their collective hineys

yes of course you can use the sword as a range weapon but it has to be at least what 20 feet to be effective while i can take pot shots form 1000 feet and manage to hit you ( unless iam a security personal in some old shows where they cant hit a barn while standing in side of a barn)

Dude so u just shoot on every dark spot u see??
Then u run out of ammo pretty soon...
Even if you know im not hunting you...you just shoot on every darkness u see...thats a waste of ammo and time...

give me a xb-bisurger (double barrel pistol firing small photon blasts capable of devastating any non-armored unit)
or a zt-antromizer (sniper rifle with mounted crystals that seperate light and adds certain chemicals to the light which when combined with a normal hexonate beam can rip a hole through almost any type of armor)
and ill give you a shot right between the eyes even if your moving at 1000kph
so obviously guns, but not your pansy human guns. you see i prefer guns you would call \'sci-fi\' but where i come from they are nothing more than modern technology

Katana.

But a high quality sniper rifle follows hot on the heals.

I preffer guns. They are easyer to use and pack a strong punch. I\'m not really a fan of bloody battle but if I wanna cut ppl in 2 I use a minigun. So guns get the job done really fast and you don\'t need such a high skill to defeat someone. In gun battle it really comes to who is smarter and stealthiest. As for guns vs blades, gimme a break, we enhanced armour too, you must be really close and stealthy to get a kill. One wrong step and you get creamed.
