Title: Interview with Luca - PlaneShift's top guy
Post by: Kiva on April 29, 2004, 02:44:08 pm
New news on the PS site (lazy people click here (http://www.planeshift.it/20040429.htm))

Short but very informative interview with Talad, including some great screenshots from the CB Arena. Great work. :)

Edit: Not -that- short though. It does hold some text. :)

The pics of the arena are not actually screenshots, but renderings.  I must say that it does look promising through :)

Just to clarify, those are renders, not screenshots =P

Edit: bah, just beat me to it =P

I may be a girl, but I\'m not stupid and I definitely can read. :)

Here are some renderings (not in-game screenshots) of the Arena

That\'s what the interview says. Try reading it more thoroughly next time you post and think someone isn\'t right. Besides, I just said the screenshots looked great, and they do. :) (I know they\'re not in-game screenshots, but they\'re still screenshots!)

As for those interested in how the Arena has been made, we can all thank Artician for his great work. According to some dev who\'s heard some things, the whole structure is roughly 120k polys (\"So just the arena in CB is 50% more polys than all of MB combined\" ), and is made of somewhere between 10-12 sectors. So we definitely have something to look forward to in CB. :)

*drools in anticipation of epic gladitorial battles* :P
That is totally awesome.  It makes me long for the glory that will be CB.

I just didn\'t want people to get mislead, no insult intended. =)

The renders sure look great though!

Ack!, first post and I\'m already digging my own grave, off to a great start! XD

I like the naked man statue in the first render.

Seriously, too bad we didn\'t get any new ingame screenshots. Cause renders are .. well, they are renders...

I kinda wanted a longer interview, but who cares, it\'s something.

And those renderings.... Sheesh! 8o That just shows that a group of volunteers can do just as good as a group of paid employees!

Btw... I can see the butt of the statue in the first pic! /me giggles like a schoolgirl and runs away

Edit: Only problem, it makes me want CB already even more! I really can\'t wait!

I actually prefer a naked girl, but maybe thats just me :)

Looks nice though, only makes me worry if my computer can handle it :(, ah well would be a good reason to upgrade ;)

I\'ll say this: I don\'t know why it\'s considered good asthetics to have statues of naked men holding up a building, but I can see a fig-leaf mod in this computer\'s future. (Edit: Or maybe boxers, that would be funny :P)

This arena is totally not what I expected, especially the inside fighting grounds.  How will people watch?
Title:
Post by: Ionas on April 29, 2004, 09:45:47 pm
Maybe that has become a standard since the greek mythologie of atlas carrying the world. Time to change i say, emancipation should be applyed here :D

Do hope there is a place to watch fight, cant believe they wouldnt have thought about. Of course there are only 4 pics so we only get to see a limited view of how its going to be.

Yeah, but I doubt he was naked. Think about it, he had the south pole on his shoulders! Brrrrrrrr....

Ionas, I tend to disagree. Although a naked chick could be nice, if she\'s holding an arena she gotta be one of those weight-lifting women, you know, those that shoot testosteron and got pumped muscles, beard, and a deeper voice than a biker... Scary. :(
Title:
Post by: Ionas on April 29, 2004, 10:07:37 pm
Yep that would be a horrible picture :). But if we make the statue less muscular it would attract more people right :D.
Anyway, can the arenas differ in size? And who is the guy in the statue? Is it Laanx or Talad? Maybe they can come alive so you can fight them.
Title:
Post by: karakth on April 29, 2004, 10:15:26 pm
Or maybe they\'re Kran holding the whole thing up :)
Title:
Post by: SaintNuclear on April 29, 2004, 10:26:53 pm
These guys are way too skinny to be Krans. Also, I think they\'re something like 7 meters tall, so if you take them down to human-size, they should be like stick figures...

I doubt they\'re Talad or Laanx, because according to the History, they got hair. But it might be Laanx, maybe his hair fell when she became a he.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you!
Title:

Oh yes, great work ;)

But they don\'t necissarily have to be statues of anything. Perhaps they\'re...dare I say it...Decorative?

man, this game looks like its coming along so...
so...
progressively great...yeah that\'s the word and beutiful work!
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on April 30, 2004, 03:21:40 am
Yeah, that statue needs at least a loin-cloth or something... but that arena looks so cool, I can\'t wait to school you all there :D
Title:
Post by: cmhitman on April 30, 2004, 03:26:05 am
to: settings team members,
How does the arena fighting work?
Are there spectator seats?
Title:
Post by: snow_RAveN on April 30, 2004, 11:39:50 am
Where are the spec stands ? How can i go around selling pop Por... err i mean PoP corn

and the statues must be of the forgoten gladitors that died makeing the pepsi ad
Title:
Post by: Moogie on April 30, 2004, 03:28:26 pm
Well we havn\'t screen the sides of the arena, so I\'d expect spectator stands to be along there. :)

Unless I\'m absolutely wrong and the devs have missed the whole point of an \"Arena\" building...

If they\'re forgotten, how did anyone knew about them to carve them on the arena?

Well...not deeper than biker..but still...i believe you can make her just right...but indeed it seems that blokes get made in statutes more ofter than chicks...

Ooooo...Hercules style...

Ah...well we will just have to wait and see how the arena works...and hope it actually works...:P

hey man, not all bodybuilding women look like men, peggy schoolcraft is damn sexy, there\'s chyna and aysia.

although some of them make my privates want to shrivel up and hide somewhere

This is the best update errr... since the movie.

Really, though, it was very informative (what I could understand) about the progress and why there are delays.

Btw, the renderings look great.

isn\'t the second statue we can see in the first picture a girl ?

Anyway, great news, the renders are really good, and the interview makes me think it will be worth the wait ^^;

and one last thing :
Quote
We are still missing a lot of RPG features, stories, quests, areas, deepness of setting in general. We feel that an RPG game deserves a lot more, so we don\'t want to call CB an \"RPG game\" yet. We have a lot of good ideas to create a good RPG game, but we decided to go step by step and to release tech demos to bring attention of other developers.

So is someone already working on stories, quests and setting ? I feel it would be a waste of time not to work on that while the engine is being done, since both might take a great amount of time.

The second looks like a mage, and I think that the last is a jester...

The stories, setting, and quests shouldn\'t be hard to come up with. You just need a few basic ideas, and you can develop stories from them.
The problem is compatibility of the quests.
The quests shouldn\'t be programmed into the game each one on it\'s own, but there should be a general programmed thing that can have quests put in like skins.
From there, it\'s just choosing wich NPC does what, and what\'s your goal.

If they want an interview with me, they can just ask me for it.

I do it for $100 :)
