Title: Attention! Floating Cube in Invisible Sector!
Post by: Psybur on May 01, 2004, 11:10:14 pm

I made my own sector and saw this cube in it far away in the distance. I went to it, and took the coords and made a snapshot. I dont know what it is, and it isnt in my world file. And devs know what this is? The screenie says hydlaa_plaza, but client side I am in psy_room.

Hold on, I doubt that the world file was all typed by hand... What program would a dev use to make a world? because in blender there is always a cube in the middle when you first start... Is thsi the true origin of the world?

The PS world is flat the center of it is less than a pixel wide, so no, he\'s not in the center of the world. :P

Edit: I found the location, it\'s out of town. I\'m standing right on top of it, but ~10 pixels higher, because of that damn hill

The cube could be at the center of the actual world when it was made in 3DMax or whatever. 0,0,0 could have been hard programmed to be the center. This box seemed to be unwanted seeing as it is in a ghost sector, and I sure hate the cube that is always in the center of things when I start up blender, so maybe they off-centered the world in the PS source on purpose so the box wouldnt be there at 0,0,0? If this is the same case as is with blender.

Hmm that\'s intresting (not!)   ;)

Can you see in the world file what this objects name is?

the cords 0,0,0 is not the center of the world, it\'s the center for factory meshes, but they do not render out so that cube should not be that.

and no the tools we use do not start with a defualt cube.

have you ever heard of the Grand Theft Auto: Ghost Town?
It may be a skybox for a similiar thing, but you said it was in Hydlaa, it should have been podium in that case maybe.

Hmm.....the podium. That would explain a couple things if it was supposed to be the poduim.

You\'re talking about Grand Theft Auto 3\'s Ghost Town, I think.
The GTA3 Ghost Town was built for the intro movie, and was actually located in the game world (since games stopped making actual movies, like in Red Alert, and started making movies using the game world), but was far from reach, and wasn\'t solid.

This cube can be something like the Ghost Town, because there isn\'t really any use to that kind of thing.

Is there a chance that crystals are generated there?
I mean, the server generates a crystal there, and according to certain things, it moves to a \'spawn point\'.

Or maybe that\'s where players are loaded before they get moved to the place they logged out from?

Edit: Btw, what\'s the podium?

Check your art directory.  There is an unused .zip archive called podium.  You could load it into the game if you want...

http://nilaya.klarth.com/podium/

There was a rumor you could find it in-game normally as well through a strange error... not sure if that ever panned out.

Ah impressive, few ppl are good enough pilots to reach that place.

but that\'s where you are wrong, there is no need for intro movie but there was need for something else...

I knew it! It is a portal to the fifth dimension. If we hurry we can catch the little green buggers before they get away and? What? ? Oh.
Nifty cube :)

Actually, I never managed to get the dodo up for more than 8 secs before crashing (and this was after I read countless of tutorials on how to fly it  ). I know about it from movies players made, and some common sense.
I see that we have a common interest besides PS... Waiting for San Andreas ;)

Hmm.... Some kind of a teleportaion device to the podium maybe? I doubt it\'d be the podium itself, from the pics I\'ve seen it\'s too big to fit into that cube, but big enough to be a pedestal that teleports you to the podium...

I like these kinds of mysteries in games, even though the solutions tend to lack any importance...
