Hello to all you Artists / Texturers,
I am making a turtle model for CS (hopefully) & I need your help making textures for it.
I am horrible with drawing/painting textures & am asking someone to give me turtle art for use in PS only.
Top/Bottom Artwork would be best for texturing, I will do all the texture maps & post them here. Textures will only be used for PS models / Modeling tutorial for Cal3D I am making (for PS Community).
Screenshots of the model:

More info about it here: Intro & About Cal3D: (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=8863&boardid=23&styleid=2)
What do you think of the model?

We are gonna need a UV map to texture it...
-
Ok, I?ll go do that, haven?t made one yet, I am working on that now..
:) update you later?
-
Ok, This is my First Texture Map, I hope it is good enough,
Feel Free to change it & or Change the model.
I split it up into 3 meshes to (maybe make it easier to texture?)
Never done this before, anyways Dl the zip that contains .3ds .uvw & a .max that has all the stuff too. I used 3DsMax4, I hope it is compatible with whatever you use to texture with?

Is this what you needed?
-
Yeah you will not wanting to be doing 3 seperate textures for such a simple character. Try combining the UV\'s into one set. I\'ll try to do it myself on the mesh if I have any time.
Also there is a cool MAX script for a certain method of UV mapping you can get here: http://www.chilliweb.co.uk/chilliskinner/ along with plenty of tutorials how to use it. After some practice with it, I find it can help you get high quality UV\'s in a short amount of time, though it depends on the model and how good you are at setting it up.

here i felt like being nice so i redid all the uv mapping with less wasted space and only one texture i hope it will be easy to skin now :)

i didn\'t plan for this from the begining but i couldn\'t resist skinning this so here is a quick start on it

How many polys is that? and the head looks pretty good. :D
-
I think it\'s looking great! I will definitely put you in the tutorial, after this is textured (take your time if you need to.) then I will start writing the tutorial on how Cal3D likes things & how to test your models in the Cally Demo for Oroger to put on WoW (http://lww.demon-host.com/).
Oh & Btw, the head looks great! The hole mesh @ this point has 596 (MaxFaces/Tri).
If the devs are going to use it, then Is it ok to change some colors in your textures a little so we can have different colors like red in addition? I would think it gives more versatility to the model & is easily done in Photoshop? :]
-
i did some more work on it this morning

It looks good. I would add moss-like highlights to the shell but that is probably a finishing touch you would do later?
I love this picture of this poor turtle: (http://novascotia.cbc.ca/tv/landandsea/blandingsturtle/turtle5.JPG)
Moss: (http://www.conservation.state.mo.us/nathis/herpetol/turtles/turtle6.jpg) :] Great work!
Edit: *Thinks you may want to include a texture map file in the zip above :)*

And hey dont forget that turtles have cute scaly heads and flipers too

its part of their instantly recognisableness :)

I was Browsing around my New 3DsMax6 (I just got today!) & found this:

(I can show much better pictures if I use Yahoo Geocities as a Host?)
I think that is a real turtle but I am not sure? I think the shell pattern I think it is real, the texture was sort of going in more of this direction from the looks of it, but it would be nice to have a Sea Turtle texture instead of this one?
Anyone have a free Image host that will allow more then 25kb images?
-
Not sure what you mean there...25kb? Thats tiny, but I use this...http://upl.silentwhisper.net , you get 4 MB of space...
-
When signing up for that after filling out info I get a page cannot be displayed :( - I was getting 1MB storage & a 25KB maximum image size?
OT: first mad face post of mine :D & Happy MotherDay....
-
Wow, that kinda sucks...you need a new upload site 8)
-
*comes out of the shadows* (I\'ve been \"lurking\" for several months, and now I think I could add something to the discussion :P)
I have 3 gigs of webspace, and am feeling generous, so I would gladly give you 20 megs of space for pictures! :D As long as if some time I need a 3d model, you could try and make me one (not sure why I would need one, but....). So, if you want it, email me ZGM-Enigma (at) phoenixcall [dot] net !
