Has anyone else seen the trailer for the movie \"Troy\"? I saw it along time ago but now it seems it is actually going to come out :)! It almost looks like a LOTR kind of film except it cannot have any sequels. Amazing how some of these trailers can make your arm hair stand on end, maybe i just have a love for old fashion wars and ancient ways! Bugger it all I am going to go install Age of Mythology now lol! Watch the trailer if you haven\'t, brilliant if I may so myself!

There\'s no such thing as \'cannot have any sequels\'. It has been prooven many times before.
I\'ll check about it, I doubt it\'s good though, good movies are very rare.
-
for a movie sporting two lotr actors, and brad pitt as the main character, there might be potential, but still I don\'t think it\'ll be all that good.. especially since none of the battles seem that innovative after lotr..
-
Yeah, I think it looks like a fairly good movie, Ill definately go see it. Hopefully it will be as good as it looks. Of course nothing can compare to LOTR...
-
This movie will be good, I can feel it :] The battle scenes don\'t need to be innovative at all to be good! This is mythological history!
-
I just watched the trailer again at http://www.apple.com/trailers/ and I am not overly impressed by it. It might be good but I have been disappointed by the last few movies I\'ve seen (Hellboy, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Van Helsing), and I fear it may not live up to the expectations set by Gladiator.
-
I\'ve read the books many times and will definately be disapointed; the treailer is crappy. And such a cast, i can just imagine what type of movie will come out of this. ;(

The story of Troy is based on the Iliad, and there is a sequel of that myth: The Odyssey...
-
Well I still say it will be a awesome movie, just wait all you haters going to be eating your words when you see it! Then you all will be like OMG THIS IS THE 4th TIME IVE SEEN IT I CANT WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON VIDEO/DVD!!
-
I have always liked greek myths but as far as the movie goes, movies always look good in the previews...
We will have to see if the movie is any good...
(speaking of dont you hate it when they show somthing in the previews that is not anywhere in the movie?)
-
i HAVE high hopes for this such big name actors don\'t sign up for crap films, there must be something good in it!

What if they think the movie will be good, sign a contract, realize it\'s bad, but won\'t break the contract so they won\'t get sued? That\'s all these things are about, money. And that\'s why most film suck.
And besides, you said they were in LOTR, right?...
-
Nah I said it was a LOTR type film, big battles, dramatic kind of stuff but now that I think about it Orlando Bloom is in it lol! Nah actors look over story boards, outlines and small production releases of what the film is suppose to be before signing and this one has rallied so many BIG names Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Peter O\'Toole , Diane Kruger :) Those are pretty big actors especially the ONE THE ONLY Brad Pitt! I am not exactly a big fan of him but every film I have seen him in has not failed to be great! Anyways I know what you mean it could turn out bad like The Hulk, Daredevil, etc...but I doubt it will!
EDIT: Now that I actually look somewhat deeper into other roles in the movie we got Sean Bean also from Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring, Brian Cox one of my many favorites (Nuremburg or SuperTroopers) also another one of my favorites Brendan Gleeson from Braveheart if you don\'t remeber he was the big guy always by Mel Gibson he had the orange hair and always tended to punch Mel for fun!
-
i just hope this movie won\'t be as bad as van helsing
-
This is probably going to be another case of Hollywood turning a great story into something that can make maximum profit in 1.5 hours.
If you really want to see this story in action, then go find a copy of \"Helen of Troy,\" a USA miniseries done about a year ago that was amazing. I mean, of course the special effects and the acting wasn\'t like youd get out of a big picture, but that just means that they were able to do a better job of telling the story, which is what I believe they managed to do.
-
Well I haven\'t seen Helen of Troy but I just played Age of Mythology and conquered Troy with my archers and collosuss :D
-
As long as it has a trojan horse and Eric Banner makes a Full Frontal joke I\'ll be happy.........Why\'d Eric Banner have to go into big movies he was better in sketch comedy.......*sighs*...oh well I guess thats what happens when they wave a million dollar check in your face.

I didn\'t even bother watching those, I knew they would be crap...
I did watch Hidalgo, which looked pretty good to me (Viggo Mortgenson ;) ), but it wasn\'t as good as I thought...way too predictable. We need another good movie...
Actually call me crazy, but Im looking forward to Spiderman 2 :D /Despite my lack of interest in the superhero genre, Spiderman was a good movie. I know sequals are never as good as the original, but Spiderman 2 looks pretty good.
-
Spider Man has countless great stories, If the sequel sucks it wasn\'t because they couldn\'t get a good story idea.
btw there were a few cases where the sequel is better than the original, Empire Strikes Back anyone.
-
Ah yes the old starwars movies were great. Episode 1 was really good too IMO, but they screwed it all up with Episode 2...that was dissapointing
-
I saw the preview and unfortunately it gives me a bad impression of the movie. It seems like they want to have epic battles like in the LOTR but really overdo it. There is a shot where you see a ridiculous amount of ships (probably copied with the computer).
And then there is a part of a sword fight where one jumps to swirl around and hit his sword exactly where the other guy holds his shield who doesnt even have to move his shield. Such an insane action would have you killed instantly if it were real.
Maybe im wrong (i hope so) but it looks like just another hollywood movie where every sense of reality gets swept aside to have impressive fights. Fortunately they cant make many historical flaws with this movie like was done in pearl harbor and so many other movies.
But it would be fun if they would change the end to surprise us. Perhaps let the greek make a cow instead of a horse :). And have the trojans set it on fire :D
-
Actually, historically, there were a huge amount of ships, maybe not as many as they made in the movie, but still... And yes the battle of Troy was not a myth
-
There is just a whole bunch of myth that has grown up around the Battle of Troy which makes distiguishing between fact and fiction rather hard.
btw wasn\'t there meant to be like 1000 ships which would mean that wide shot didn\'t even include all the ships......I could be wrong, I\'m not that crash hot on Ancient History.
-
erm The Battle of Troy is a myth, all the battles of Troy aren\'t(the believed location of Troy is a 3000year old sequence of settlements)

They have found the remains of a conquered city where Troy were supposed to be, so it may very well be so. After all, it is 3000 years ago.
-
Heh Its suppose to be a epic that lives up to LOTR according to commercials :] I love tatical battles like the battle of Troy!
-
The Battle of Troy is not a myth, but the story has been hyped up so the story is not very acurate historically. But there was whats her name...Helen that was kidnapped or something, and her lover went to rescue her. It was a huge battle, and the whole horse thing really did happen, Im pretty sure.
-
True, the only way to know this would be through scriptures that were recovered but I haven\'t heard of any being found yet?
-
Well I just came back from the movie (saw it opening night no less ;) ) anyway, I quite enjoyed it, and would recommend that you go see it :D
Wont say much more than that otherwise I\'ll start ruining the movie for people :P
-
There was a doc on Discovery the other day(sponsored by WB :)) and nothing could have been proven. Schliemann\'s Troy is still believed to be the Troy, but that\'s not certain either. THERE IS NO PROOF or evidence of The Troyan War.
And figthing over a gal is a very common motive.
So what are your references? :P
-
Mmmm Belief :] Now that I got 5 good opinions on the movie, I will definately go even though I was anyway!
-

Sorry but I\'m a really tight assed speller, it\'s the Trojan war not the Troyan war... :] Aaaah satisfaction...
-
Saw Troy. Great movie if you\'ve never read the Iliad. If you have...it\'s only enjoyable. They kinda screwed the story up a bit.
