A thousand pardons if this has already been brought up a myriad of time before, but I looked (admittedly not as hard as I might have) and found no answers. Here goes...
When I log on I get a VERY slow frame rate. Is this a temporary problem with the server, (I do understand that this game is still under HEAVY development) or do I need to upgrade my computer. I can\'t give you my exact specs since I am not a computer Guru and am vauge on the subject, but can you just tell me if its likely that a computer useing XP with a low grade 3D eccelorator (sp), medium memroy and a 44 k connection would experience these problems? And if so what should I upgrade?
A thousand thanks to any good Samaritan who answers this. Plane Shift looks great and I plan on playing quite regularly if I can get it working.

Hey Vorlord, welcome to Planeshift.
If you want some info on your system, just go to start->run-> then type dxdiag . It gives quite a bit of info.
Anyhow, the slowness of the game is not due to the server or lag, it is due to the current state of the code. (Like you mentioned, as it is in pre-alpha state, it has not been optimized for all system configurations).
If you could run dxdiag and get your CPU speed, ram, video card type/size that would help.
Generally speaking though, Planeshift runs slow since it uses a large amount of RAM (about 300MB) so most people with 256MB have poor performance.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I was away on bussness all weekend.
This is all I could find that I thought was usefull.
Memory: 512MB of RAM
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.50 GHz
3D Accelerator: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200 memory = 32MB
Hard Drive 2.00 GB
If you need more I could dig harder. I noticed that you didn\'t think my slow connection was at fault. Are you saying that this game should be running fine right now on a 56k modem? RSVP.
btw: I\'ll be gone painting a cousins house tomorrow and might not be able to make contact then. Just I heads up.
I\'m not a hit and run poster if any of you were wondering :).

PS uses around 1kBp/s so your connection should be just fine.
Although, don\'t get addicted or you will get a hell of a phone bill :)

Wow didn\'t know anyone still had one of these.

So your saying that could be one of the reasons its running so slow?

I have the same problem.
CPU:Intel Pentium III 560 mhz
Ram:256
Hardrive=20 gb with 1 gb to spare.
Vid Card:NVIDIA Geforce DDR 32mb
When I try to play...It\'s laggish and i can do anything.
I\'m stuck in run foward mode in a pitchblack corner.
I have to ctr+alt+del to get out...I just think my computer sucks..TLT
1000 words, 10,000 thanks

Well in your case, its most likely due to the fact that your CPU is a bit slow.
Vorlord: I\'m assuming you meant 2.00 GB free HD space (total HD space wouldn\'t really make too much sense with that fast of computer ;)) In your case, my guess would be the video card. Have you tried both Software & OpenGL mode? As well, make sure you have the newest drivers for your video card.

Also make sure you don\'t run anything in the background.
If you don\'t mind, try disable the anti-virus
P.S Windows Update is also something I would try D.S

... that even with my crappy old system I have the exact same problems as you 3+GHz guys! Wheee! *eg*
However, just in case, my char has become stuck while trying to climb a wall. However, /spawn doesn\'t do the trick as I can\'t even type it in anymore. Leaving the thing on for an hour wouldn\'t fix it. I even put in another 128 MB of RAM just in case (kept swapping /reloading like hell). didn\'t help though, needed to hit the Microsoft button (reset switch). Tried it three times now, same result.
Until that happened, I could actually play PS, swapping/(re)loading took ages but graphics were quite smooth ost of the time.
Also, loading (initializing world) takes an hour consistently. There have been posts suggesting that only the initial load would take this long...
Anywy, system specs:
AMD K6-II @ 550 MHz
320 MB RAM
Swap: ~700 MB on compressed drive
PS on network drive (~20 GB free, uncompressed space)
ATI Rage Fury MAXX with 64 MB
DX 9.0b
W98 SE
(Fixed linkdead by port forwarding and entering IP address)
OpenGL mode @ 640*480*8
PS is updated
So, if you think it\'s a bug or something, post it so I\'ll leave the char as it is in case someone wants to look at the data. Otherwise I\'m going to delete and re-create it (Name: Seytra).
Anyway, PS is quite impressive already! I don\'t do MMORPG, but PS got me break this rule.

Almost everyone has problems with planeshift running reeeealy slow, this is due to some combination of unoptimised code (which is being worked on) and poor hardware (which the devs can\'t help you with ;) )
Bandwidth isn\'t a problem, getting more RAM has been known to help (having 512MB is handy)

Having huge problems with frame updates... everything works fine until I try to move within the game and then its about 1fpm! (m=minute)... System : Athlon XP 2400 - Radeon 9800 - 1Gb DDR ram. Also have 1meg broadband connection but that doesnt seem to help.help!

Just a question: apparently, my char had been respawned at the plaza when I logged in last time. Did anybody reset the position or did my latest /spawn get through eventually? I let it sit an hour to give it time but eventually the client crashed.
@ sicknote: try the options in psconfig, especially enable open gl. You can also try to decrease resolution and color depth and set it to \"window\" instead of \"fullscreen\". This made PS run on my crappy system so it\'s actually doing something and may well help you.
