I\'ll make that one. SO HERE IT IS :
THE MARTIAN GUILD.
You can\'t join unless you are from mars.
You\'ll need to bring your Martian driving license or a letter and photograph stamped by the authority at Oork Skrozz Blorgh.
We\'ll even consider abductees of martian ships( I reckon that after all that probing there has to a little bit of mars lodged in you;)). However you will need to provide the same id as mentioned above of any of your abductors and a photograph of that individual probing you.
Also considered will be anyone daft enough to forge such evidence and apply.
So let those applications come in people.
Our activities will be:
- Abducting people and......:P.
- Creating crop circles and/or circular crops
- Experimenting on cows, dogs and sheep.
- Landing product endorsement contracts.
- Running for US presidency.
- Holding social martian events.
- Filing a petition for observance of holiday on the holy martian day of \"Kzzplgh ZZmmmng\".
- Fighting against sexual harassment of martians in the workplace.
etc.
Our back story is:
We are martians who came to earth to dominate humans and take in the sights and the cuisine. Only our spaceship had a flat tire and since we couldn\'a push it home we now are looking for the secret designs of the \"fartjet propulsion system\" designed by an Axsyrus led team of flatulent mages of the Arcane Order. (the principle is simple : Aim, Light a match and FIRE!:D. But the arcane order guys were able to contain the chain reaction by some secret \"Gas Harnessing thingy of +1 non-stinkiness\".)
On topic:
I think you guys are misunderstanding this fellow who started this guild. I think he intended this to be a farcical announcement.

No, but seriously: If this Euro guild is a real guild then it is pretty much pointless, as it will never be RPable (There is no Europe in Planeshift. Really).

afaik, the game will not be RP enforced, so he\'s pretty much free to do whatever he wants with his guild... Members on the other hand, might not be as easily attained..

sigh, guilds should not reflect rl but rather be based on ingame rp.
Look at the official recuirements for a guild on the main site and see how far off this guild is from being one.

So? Being able to supress our instincts and having a proverbial backbone is what seperates us from animals. And this sense of \"wright and wrong\" imposed on us by society is the reason that we as a species have done so well.
We are social creatures, and all societies must have order (take any society in nature, all are governed by rules, \"wright and wrong\").
And is this guild even still active?

If evil is a template that applies to flaming n00bs, like the rest of the oldschool fops of this community (although luckily that breed seems to be extinct), I\'m in no sense evil.. I only flame someone if that person flames me, and even then with a slightly sarcastic touch..

Even less serious, society and rules are a tool not a goal. The one to understand the emptyness of rules and values can fully use society to his benefits.
Oh and maybe you want this ring. It can give you a funny hallucination like view on the world. Everything becomes black and white and moves. It has a sideeffect i still try to remove, the ring tends to make you invisible. But it also has some cool writing on the side when you hold it in fire.

First off, humans still have instincts ;) , don\'t try to elevate humans just because we are sentient and intelligent. Sentience kicks in, imho, a couple of years after birth. Instinct is what the baby relies on to be able to feed off the mother (no offense to anyone here) and swallow, etc etc.
Second off, society was never a tool. Humans are a social species. You cut off the social aspect of humans, and you go nuts, basically. Society is basically an integral part of being a Homo Sapien, and for most other primates as well. Not only primates, but also for some, if not most, mammals. Cetaceans, Perissodactyls, Carnivores, and elephants (Proboscideans, just \'cause I wanna show of in my knowledge :] ) in particular. We need society. Rules are a part of society. Society can\'t exist without rules. Rules are the backbone of a prosperous society. As much as we all adore chaos, the chaos that we see in modern day society still has some sort of rule governing it.
Enough of my blabbering.

Im not sure about babies, maybe their cognition is indeed so undeveloped you could talk about instincts. But from baby on humans really dont have instincts. Humans are not just animals with culture.
Instinct means that the animal responds to the same situation always the same way like all the others do as well. Meaning it is preprogrammed.
With humans no universal consistent behavioral pattern has been found. Always there were to many exceptions. Instincts have become urges in us which is slightly different.

True, humans can\'t live without society or with huge problems to say the least. But you in theory can use society to your advantage and go against values and norms that exist. It depends of course what exact meaning you give to instinct. i consider it as a preprogrammed unhangeable response. Instinctual drives are btw what i called urges.
I btw base this on the course social psychology i had an exam for this morning. One of the first things they did was claiming humans don\'t have instincts but urges. Depends on definition i think :).
