Listen up, n00b.

1) This is a problem that only a newbie would have. So where does it go? That\'s right, the newbie forums.

2) Secondly, don\'t swear. Not in your nick, posts, or sig.

3) Choose a fantasy name. Duke Nukem is not a fantasy name, even though dukes are medieval.

4) For God\'s sake type proper sentences. In English grammar, \"I\", the pronoun, is always capital. Sentences end in a punctuation mark. \"can t\" should be \"can\'t.\" Sentences always start with a capital letter.

5) It\'s PLANESHIFT not planshift.

Hey Karakth the Hulk...you forgot your medication!
/me throws Karakth a pill making him shrink and lose his green skin color
He just asked for help you know...no need to stone the guy.
Anyway, Duke, I\'d say point 1,2 and 5 are the most important points (maybe nr. 3). The other ones are just details that nobody would bother an oldbie for so you shouldnt mind either.
Anyway, enjoy your stay! Walk your path but don\'t cross mine... ;)

*watches karakth hulk shrinking back to normal size...*
I wonder if it\'s safe now.

anyways, really that was a BIT much man. is my name medievil? it could be considered tribal, but it\'s hardly medievil.

-=sigh=- Another who considers all fantasy games to be medievil....
If you re-read his post he says pick a fantasy name, not a medieval name.

But I say good work Kara, you are well on your way to becoming one of the great Noob-Haters.  And I second all of Kara\'s points.[/COLOR]

So would you be satisfied with \"Duke Nhuquim?\"

In my mind (or what\'s left of it), a fantasy name is more important in-game than on the forums - I at least use my real identity on-forum.

On the other hand, I suppose overly-leet names tend to interfere with the forum aesthetic.

Looks like karakth scared off a newbie completely with the pointless ranting... meh.

you know, ranting at a new member looks bad for the planeshift community in general

He could have found the answer he needed in any of the threads, including the stickied ones.  He could have gone to the newbie forum where this should have been posted.  Or he could even have checked the site itself.  If someone is really that lazily, or that blind then we\'re better off without him in the community.

Besides everyone who comes here was flamed at some point.

Well, perhaps I did scare off a newbie. I\'m sorry...I just couldn\'t take it any more. This is a forum not IRC. You can take your time and make proper sentences.

Besides, it wasn\'t pointless, it scared off a n0b :D

Things like this should be expected. People see a free MMORPG, they get excited about playing it and rush to get in as soon as possible. So they come on and try to find out with the least amount of work how to do so. the sad fact is, of all of us, I think the most responcible post was made by the one of us with the least posts, TheRedMonk. He welcomed the guy, then let him know that some of what karakth said was valid, but in a friendly way.

Just because someone makes an ignorant mistake doesn\'t mean that they will never make a valid contribution to a community, it just shows their humanity. yes, I\'ve seen this kind of thing a thousand times, I always try to error on the side of generosity.

Karakth, why does everyone have to have perfect grammatical skills. I don\'t capitalise every letter that needs capitalisation, I don\'t spell every single word right, yet I\'ve never been flamed for my typing skills! A lot of people only type the letters, never even bothering to punctuate, if you can understand the message, that\'s really all that matters.

Aendar, this kind of intolerance from someone who\'s been on the boards as long as you have surprises me, you\'re what, 19, you should be acting a little more mature.

I simply feel that everyone should be given a chance rather than being flamed for their very first post. running people off before they have had a chance to redeem themselves is counterproductive and not a tactive we need to use around these boards.

BTW, he did make a proper sentance, there was not a single fragment, there was a subject and a verb. The mistake he made was in forgoing punctuation, which does not invalidate the sentance, merely makes it difficult to \"feel\". If you know anything about writing you understood what I just wrote.

I try to ignore this, but I guess the good duke was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had I seen this in the newbie forums, I would not have flamed. Had I seen this before seeing countless number of posts like it, I would not have flamed.
