Title: I cant download the client :(

Why cant I download the client, does anyone know? It keeps saying:

\"File request does not exist download aborted\".

I see that a few of you have already dl the client so why cant I?

lol, gimme a shout if you know what Im doing wrong :)

Well I had problems with the upload button not working and now I can\'t even use the first alias I put in. The password and username combination don\'t work, and it says the username is already taken.

Other than that I fell through the floor once.

Time of test: 3 May, 12:00 AM EST
OS: Windows 98, First Edition
Processor: AMD Athlon 800 Mhz
RAM: 384 Mb
Video Card: Voodoo 3 3000
Video Card Memory: 16 Mb
PS Client Version: 0.1.003
Description of the bug: Title screen and menu screen are experiencing graphical glitches. No mouse appears, either, to select the different option. I have to ctl-alt-del out, because I cannot read/click on the menu. I tried to take a SS, but when I pasted it into PSP, it looked even more messed up than the actual image I was seeing.

I\'ll post one if you wish, but I don\'t believe it would be very representative of the graphical error I am getting.

[EDIT]Above error is in OpenGL mode. Safe Mode won\'t start at all.[/EDIT]

More tips for the clueless:

1) The server IP is 203.109.172.22
2) Bug reports are supposed to be EMAILED to the said address

3) If your video card doesn\'t have hardware GL acceleration, I suggest you use the \"Slow\" version.. which will in actuality be faster depending on your CPU speed.

I am soooooo looking forward to seeing you all there. Damn it, I\'m at work, I\'ll have to wait 8 or 9 hours untill I can get home, then probably another day to download. Arghhhhh life is so cruel ;( .

I hope I can install it at work and none of the filters block me ;)

Three of the things i want to see most fixed is...

1. The Exit/Join Lag
2. The loose joints in which you can move through a wall.
3. The Falling threw the floor effect which i think Ties in with 2

Title: Early observations
Post by: Lyris Krystalstorm on May 03, 2002, 09:00:03 am
<
Now, onto my observations:
1. Even though I had created female characters, when I log onto the server, the chars are male. Is everyone supposed to be male for the tech demo? On the creation screen, I chose female twice, but when I\'m in the world, lo and behold the char I am propelling is male.
2. There is definitely a \"falling in the abyss\" bug, which I had encountered when walking in the town fountain area.
3. Little laggy, but that is to be expected.
4. The housing structures and dimensions are very nice.
5. Still no consistency with arrow control with regards to zooming in/out. When I had walked into the anvil area, the side arrows were zooming me in and out. Very odd. Otherwise, the forward and back arrows were fine.

Wonderful work, development team. >>

there are only 3 skins available in the tech demo:  the male Stonebreaker Dwarf, the male Enkidukai, and the male Ynnwn.  I\'d say the Enkidukai looks the most female of the three :)

(i was able to download the client in 1 min 42 sec on cable so there is no problem with the server)

I also donloaded the game within 2 min, but i lag soooooooo much. I cant even move around :(  :(  the only way to get out from the game is by pressing
alt + f4...

So liteerally all i can od is stand on top of the fountain and look at a screen with 2 houses...not too much fun if i may say my thoughts...

I have got as far as character creation (this is tricky at work, especially with not being able to minimise quickly ;) (Alt+Tab seems to often result in fatal errors)).
What I have seen so far is looking amazing, well done for getting it this far! :D

But will I ever be able to use my full name with the no spacing character rule? :(

wow.. the city is really looking great!
i think this game will really be cool, but we just havent got much to do now.. but heej, its just a tech demo..
only lil bug thing i have is that you can walk trough walls at a moment of lag..
yo can get out of the city then.. (look here to see it: http://members.lycos.co.uk/alcapalis/viewtopic.php?p=17#17 ) but unfortunatly i dont have much lag.. so i cant get there a lot..
well.. keep up the good work! i think it will become really cool

Looks like there is a problem if you are behind a firewall that does NAT.  I reconfigured mine at work to tunnel everything to me and it worked fine.  If the Development team could comment on the ports the game requires to open on the server end, I would be more than happy to put together some documentation on configuring a firewall for use with the game.  I will see if I can figure the ports out from the firewall log as well.  A few thoughts:

Works great on a Athlon 1800 XP, 512 mb ram, with a 64 MB Gforce 2 400 MX and sitting on a T1. :D

I am so used to tab-ing between fields so this would be a nice feature.

Minimize is a must for those who like to test at work ;) .

Everything seems a bit dark (hard to make out facial features of others).  Are there going to be torches in the real thing?

GREAT work development team!

Looks like I may have those firewall problems you spoke of Delmar. Do you or anybody else have tips how I might be able to reconfigure to get around this problem. At the moment I can\'t get any further than character creation :(
Title:
Post by: Delmar on May 03, 2002, 01:19:06 pm
I stand corrected on the firewall.  I just went back behind it and connected no problem.  It may be only an issue with uploading a charecter.  Will investigate further.  Stay tooned... Nope I can upload a charecter fine.  As long as your firewall is not specificly blocking outgoing ports and only doing NAT then you should be OK.  Many companys will specificly block outgoing ports to limit what the people can do (ie only allow web and mail access).
Title:
Post by: Delmar on May 03, 2002, 01:33:59 pm
OK, looks like the game talks on UDP port 13331.  If this outgoing port is blocked (will probably be in most company settings that have a firewall) then your out of luck - unless you know the administator ;)

Here are some SS of what I\'m getting. It isn\'t exactly the same, because \"Print Screen\" seems to be distorting the image even further, but it gives a general idea. My system specs are on the previous page of this thread.

Ahum, *looks with puppy eyes* What the hell IS a GL acceleration. I don\'t know if I have one. And if I use the slow version, it takes ages to even connect, and then it still has to load the world and everything!

64 Mb RAM
Lots of junk.

The \"slow\" version doesn\'t even start for me... my mouse thinks for a minute, and then goes back to normal, as if I never even tried to run the program.

Title: Client performance and display problems
Post by: Vengeance on May 03, 2002, 05:43:18 pm
If you are having performance problems with OpenGL, you can do 2 things:

a) Try \"safe\" mode, which does not use those drivers.  This should display better also if you have glitches on your screen.  It should also be faster if your OpenGL drivers do not use h/w acceleration.  (H/w acceleration is like using a calculator instead of paper&pencil to do math.)

b) If \"safe\" mode is better, go to the web and try to find updated video drivers for your card.  You can determine your video card by right clicking on the My Computer icon and selecting Properties.  Then go to the Devices tab and you will see Video Display Adapter as a choice (I think).  That is the device whose new driver you seek.

Hopefully that will help some of you with display problems.

Good luck,
- Venge

Well, can anyone suggest some OpenGL drivers for a Voodoo 3 3000? I tried WickedGl and GLSetup, but I\'m still getting the same graphical glitches that I was prior to installing them.
Title:
Post by: Shanekk on May 03, 2002, 06:27:20 pm
I could be wrong but I don\'t think a 3dfx card will run in OpenGL.  I think it will only work in 3dfx glide.  I could be wrong though.  *shrugs*

Maybe about 15min. But then when I get on the game its so laggy as when I just take a step of the fountain I fall right down to the floor......and through the floor.
And then I have to start it all over again.
but I if I start it up before I\'ve restarted the comp It just crashes when it\'s starting to download the world.

you can find out your video card by going into display properties and then clicking on settings.

you probably just need a driver update.

All modern cards support OpenGL, sicne OpenGL and direct X are teh main standards now days, although Direct X is more popular. Things like Glide3D and such are now long gone, people who have old Voodoo2 chip based graphic cards, and probably voodoo3\'s would have problems since they wouldnt support OpenGL (well my old computers card never did, then again Voodoo is no longer in buisness).

Id suggest upgradeing to at least a 32meg card either a Geforce or a a Raedeon(sp?) since they support OpenGL. Card costs are coming down all the time, and with the release of cards like the geForce4, the older cards will become even cheper than they curently are.

Safe mode runs useing software mode, ie. your CPU does all teh graphical work, and if you havent got a fast CPU (im talking about at least a 800mhz) then you will get crap framerate in this demo.

If you install new video drivers and end up having to reformate yoru HD you have a major problem with your machine, or you dont realy know what your doing ^^...

Umm... Hi.
I am a new player of planeshift, and I just wanted to tell you.... IT DOESN\'T WORK!!! Each time I start it, it loads the world and everything ( after 5 mins on a cable modem) then it is really laggy. I can\'t even see my character much less move him. It takes 2minutes and 32 seconds for me to type one word and ( I\'m not sure if I have said this enough) IT IS WAY TOO LAGGY!!! If anyone else has this problem or knows a way to solve it... just tell me

I apologize... I guess I should have specified that you must install the video driver \"the right way\".  I\'ll try to be more specific next time.  :-)

If you do mess up your drivers though, you should still be able to boot in \"safe mode\" in Windows 95 or later and switch out the bad driver again though without reformatting.

I have 1600 mhz and it\'s still lagging the shit out of me in safe mode, besides I have Windows XP which doesn\'t support openGL X(
It worked in openGL mode the first time I ran it and it didn\'t lag that wonderful time.
