I am not an artist. I\'ve never drawn anything, but after Kintall\'s amazing art thread I found myself wishing I was. So, I did a search on drawing tutorials, invested many many hours, and now for the first time ever, here is my art...
...many many hours later, I was finally able to color this scetch...
...and now, my next task (of many many hours) is to shade and highlight. I\'ll post again when it\'s done. ;)
I\'m actually very proud of myself at this point.
Feedback from the community, especially Kintall, would be great ;)

I see you just coloured the sketch... well thats one way to do it, but not the perfect one ;)
I guess you use photoshop, use the pen-tool, I know its hard to learn, but it will pay off :) That way you will get much better lines.
I like the pict, though there are some odd things in it, like not symmetric, I got the dame problem, it wil get less if you practice more :D And tuts on the net are usually good, you learn alot from them.
I dont want to make a negative post, just some comments, keep up the practice :D I know I will, just ordered me a Wacom Tablet :D:D

kinky, a small insight into the sexual mind of abemore there
-
Quwaar:
Are you suggesting that I trace all the lines using the mouse and pen-tool?
I\'m actually using paint shop pro because I\'m too lazy to install that other program.
Thanks for the criticism Quwaar. :)

maybe.....:P.....no, I just drew the chick from the tutorial, though I covered her breasts as they were bare in the tutorial. 8o
-
Quie good for someone who\'s barely ever drawn before.
*pokes* Time for the ever-present nag: Did you use shapes, lines, etc.. for this sketch?
Funny though, fanart of fanart, does that make it official art? :P
-
woah, woah, what tutorial was that?! :D
J/K Actually I think its quite good. See, if I could draw like that...oh man, I wish. I got Photoshop down, I probably could make some pretty cool stuff, if only I could draw with paper and pencil...

to lazy for Photoshop.... tsss, damn you ^^ Euhm..well.. Im afraid I do :P I know it sucks but you will get beter results that way.
And the monk thing...*poke* its true, I dont know if you used them...but They sure help, use cirkels, alot of \'em :D
Good luck
-
Yeah, I did use a lot of circles. It was part of the tut. The first step made her look like a crash test dummy. I think the circles are the reason it looks as good as it does... I may waste another few hours and trace all the lines as you suggest Quwaar. Thanks.
-
its really a disastrous job, but it works :D
A tablet does work, Im getting mine next week :D woei
-
i think kintall would rather have her w/ more clothes on... :D if you look towards the beggining of his thread in the series of art he did entitled \"because\" then i think you will find some evidence of this :]
-
right... as soon as I get photoshop back... I kinda deleted it :S... Ill post my first Pen-tool drawing, it was made over the sketch. So you can see how much it sucks in the beginning ;) Not to disencourauge you, but to show you really need to work on it :D
Later on you will surely get better at it, and it really pays of. Just look at euhm... http://www.applegeeks.com (it this an add...sorry admin) everything done with a pen-tool, it so totally rocks :D
-
pretty skanky! But thats cool!
-
okay, killed another 4 hours and did some shading and highlights... the website I was following with the tutorial went down so I had to use Kintall\'s tutorial (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?boardid=22&threadid=7924&page=9#325) and guess at what I was supposed to do.
[Edit]finally figured out the line tool... will probably post another version with clean lines.
-
use the soften brush to sort out the jaggedness in your lines
-
I actually like the rough lines... and that\'s not all I like rough 8o
...of course I\'m talking about sandpaper......
-
Wow...o.O
Very nice, the form construction needs a bit of work but the peice itself is sound its just the proportioning thats a little wacky. its a great pic there keep it up I would really love to see more
I dont hink you should call it Kintall inspired, hell all I did was twiddle with pictures, YOU do the inspiration
I really like the pic..
very sleepy..
but I really do like the pic :)
-
Ever think about drawing for those smut magazines :D
-
She\'s looking way better with the clean lines. I\'m pretty sure you guys are going to like it when it\'s finished. ;)
-
And now... after little anticipation... and hundreds of hours... here is the final version of my work entitled \"first drawing ever\"
I am aware that the shoulders and eyes are not symmetric. I\'ll have to work on this for my next piece. ;)
Other than that, any further comments? :))
-
the boobs are different sizes i think, lop sided! Still sexy
-
it looks much cleaner wih the smooth lines, I really like it (still embarresed about thread name)
and remember not to spent too much time on a picture tuning and tweaking, I know its allways tempting to do that last thing.
but you need to do some quantity as well as consider the end results quality, good work al the same I really like the coulouring job, you may want to consider posting the original scetch to better show hwre your coming from so we fellow scribblers can better help each other find flaws ing the seemingly flawless :)
lovely.
-
The original sketch is in my very first post.
-
oh yeah....
me=doopid

Inspired by Kintall\'s
(http://www.imageshack.us/files1/hubsdrawingcopy.jpg)
...I sketched this (actual sketch is about 2.5 inches or 6cm tall)
-
and now we are here
(http://members.cox.net/abemore/swordguy2.jpg)
-
and... BAM!
Only took about 1 day this time. I must be getting faster.
-
hahah only one day, you ARE improving. Not only in speed but also in drawing. This one looks way better then the chick.
-
Thanks Quwaar. Next I think I\'ll have to draw someone for the purple haired guy to fight... maybe a barber. ;)
-
Looks nice abemore, only I noticed something funny about his eyes, they\'re too far up in his face. Eyes are always in the middle the head (vertically, erm how do i put this, they\'re equally far from the chin as the top of the head). They eyes in your drawing are over 2/3rd from the bottom. And his neck is kinda long and thin.
For the rest it looks very good, and as far as I can tell, it is anatomically more correct than the chick you drew. Nice improvement, keep it up. :]
-
Good point about the eye\'s. I should remember to give people foreheads in the future. And, I think the chicks neck was too long as well. Thanks for the comments.
-
I like it, its very cute :)
its nice and clean, and lovely and smooth its got a face that isnt blank and since I like it.....
DAMNGER DANGER!! Iminent nitpicking aproaching!!!!
as far as the peice itself goes, the facial construction is fine, its got a very western comic strip composition to it
as for the body, well it has a couple of small problems, one of the more noticable ones is the arms are a bit long, with them never let them get any further dwn than the middle of the thigh,
as for the chest I think it looks a bit flat, this happens when drawing males as we have (in a basic sense) very 2 dimensional bodies when compared to womens, s a mistake is often making male torsos/chests TOO flat to avoid them looking female, but afetr all the scrippling I did of late I realised that the male torso and stomach are composed of sort of half flattened cylenders, or sort od squashed spheres, itrs all in the visualisation.
just remember to think in 3d, even if your stuff lokks shirty (note spelling) when your first trying it, it will really make you take great strides when you get better at it, and hands are usualy from the base of the palm to the fingertip about the same length as the face :)
and the colouring is just spiffy, but much like the rest its very important to take the shape of the imaginary #D object that is yor drawing int account, not just the 2d area you are shading :)
I really like it, keep up the goosh workies yaaahh
P.S (and you maybe should possibly start a new thread, its kinda embarresing I\'m not good enought yet to warrant this kind of thing:P)
-
Thanks for taking the time to post such detailed comments. I really appreciate it.
The reason this crap is \"Kintall-inspired\" is because I don\'t think I would ever have even tried to draw if not for your thread.
And now, after trying, I can say... Drawing is hard!
I think maybe I should leave it to the professionals.
As implied in everyones comments here, I felt I needed more practice with actual pencile and paper. So I tried to draw a bunch of stuff, and make it look not stupid... and I failed. I also lack the inspiration that you \"true\" artists seem to have. I\'m much happier copying someone else art, and even happier still not drawing at all.
I hope no one feels that their helpful criticism went to waste. I thank you all for it. I may draw something again one day (in a thread with a different name ;) ), but only after much practice, and only if Kintall draws us some more stuff first. Mechs please :) .
*looks back at post*
what a wierd \"goodbye forever\" sounding post.
nobody cares if I stop spamming the forum with my half-assed art anyway ;)
Kintall, I think I started drawing because you stopped. Please start it up again because the creative side of my brain hurts :P
-
Don\'t give up Abemore! I draw too, (Not as good as Kintall thuogh...) and I agree, it IS hard, just keep at it! If only I had a scanner, I would start my own art thread. When I first started to draw, I was terribly horrible! But I kept on drawing, and now i\'m ALOT better.
-
Okay, but I at least need a very long break.... like a few years... ;)
-
Hah!, don\'t you know that once you start.. you can\'t stop! :D Really nice beginnings, should keep going with it.
-
Tish Tosh!
you can draw, and inspiration is just a daydream, ever thought how youdl like to jump across buildings as a mighty whatever , and then you in some part of your mind conceive an idea, and all that waits after that conseption is its birth onto paper. everyones got it in em, and I will accept no excuses as to why someone like you who does have ability (see pics) should stop drawing.
if your self concious sbout your work, well then I\'l dig up some of MY earlier works for you all to chuckle at
if you feel that you dont have anough creativity, Phit!!
everyone does its just a matter of tapping it, that bit sadly no one can help you with, but you can do it
ther are millions of reasons not to do something, and seldom more than a few TO do something, we still do many things though.
I trust you will too:)
-
your progress is amazing, a next step could be to make lines in the the lineart which veary in thickness, this will add some imaginary dynamics. Flash works fine to do that, but there is a way with the pentool, though I havnt got the hang of that one yet :P
Have you done all the lines so far with just your pentool?
-
Abemore, those pics rock, keep drawing. I wish I had a scanner and the patience to do drawing...
Hey could someone give me some links to those great tutorials? I might check them out some time.

That would be twah-rific. (I know, I\'m an idiot.) ;)

Yes, only it\'s called the line tool in Paint Shop Pro, and I don\'t think it has the option to very brush width.

What\'s with these complements? You people are far too kind if you\'re going to complement my stuff. I know good; I\'ve seen good. My stuff is not good. It\'s beginner at best, and it needs much improvement before it\'ll even think about being good. As I mentioned earlier, I\'m happier drawing what other people have already drawn...I think because it\'s easier...so I\'ve decided that\'s what I\'m going to do. This seems like the best way to teach myself the drawing skills I\'m lacking.
And as for tutorials... the one I used for the chick has gone the way of the Brazilian three-banded armadillo. But here\'s kintall\'s little blue guy tutorial (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?boardid=22&threadid=7924&page=9#325) and also, feel free to search google for drawing tutorials (http://www.google.com/search?q=drawing+tutorials). EDIT: The very first result in that google search is awesome! 8)
-
Gotta try some of those. I also found some nice tutorials on Elfwood (http://www.elfwood.com)
