Title: new sword plus video "tutorial"

i made this cause Duranium over at the Rurouni Kenshin: Redemption forum wanted some help on how to model swords
i might do a texture later and post it at lww

Nice idea to make video tuts, here are a couple of things to improve your work/speed it up. This is not to flame you or anything, just my 2 cents.

Don\'t use a background pic, just put it on a plane for more control.  Make your reference grey instead of white, easier to do in photoshop then changing the colors of max every time.
Editable mesh is fine and needed for the exporter, but it has its flaws, try working in an editable poly and at the end convert it to mesh.
In the transform window, rightclick on the arrows will instantly set it to 0.
Instead of mirroring the 4 parts and make them instances, you can also apply a symetry modifier, it automaticly welds the vertexes together.
I don\'t know your usual workflow, but if you want to speed it up a little goto: http://www.3dimplant.com There are some very nice \"setting up your workflow\" tutorials.

i tried to work with editeble poly before but the version that is included in gmax had to many flaws according to me atleast and the symetry modifier is missing and must have been added in max 5-6 and yeah i could have changed the color of the background but i guess i was to lazy to do that
oh and thanks for the zeroing out tip  :)

well the codec is MS MPEG-4 3688 V3 but i thought that was one of the codecs included in the mediaplayer or maybe its was included my dvdplayer :\\

ffdshow is winonly. My xine has the codecs, but maybe this one is too recent or something. Oh well...

Looked at the first video, looks great just wat I have been looking for! Thx FredrikH. Maybe you could add onother video for a simpler object like maybe a bowl for the sticky challenge thread.

nice tuts.  The second one is a bit unclear.  I wanted to learn uv unwrapping for long time, but you video didn\'t help much.  maybe you can add sound to what you are doing :D

well if you need a more detailed explenation of uvw mapping i found this tutorial (http://waylon-art.com/uvw_tutorial/uvwtut_01.html) that seamed quite good.

the texture still needs some work but that would have made the avi waaay to big
