Title: Graphics/Speed Issues
Post by: KamiKaze on May 03, 2002, 07:37:03 pm
Is the current slowness just \"new game lag\" or is it a problem with my computer.

*Main Computer:
Dual Palamino 1.6ghz
1.5gb ram
GeForce4 Ti 256mb ram / All-in-wonder (cable t.v.)
Win2k/DebianGNU Linux
Two 80gb HDs

*This Computer:
Duron 1ghz
256mb DDR ram
Blade 3D 32mb vid
WinXP
40gb HD

*Shared through a Cable line

-Game runs decently on the Main with a bit of vid lag.
-Can\'t even move on the other machine.

are you running in OpenGL mode?

Well..software mode takes 25minutes to load on the *fast* machine
so..yes opengl

aaargh....  minimum specs are WAAAAAAY off!  I have 8MB video card and 184MB RAM.  Guess I can forget about ever playing...  Also, it crashed, and my i wasn\'t able to log in to my char (Streetfear) cuz it says it is already playing!

the problem may be with WinXP\'s OpenGL as I have about 1 fpsm, with the following system:
AthlonXP1900+, 1Gb RAM, GeForge2 32Mb

Using software mode I get almost 4-5 fps.

Maybe it\'s WindowsXP\'s fault?
Anyone else with 1-fps-like speeds?

I don\'t think XP is to blame. I\'m getting fairly good fps except for a couple of slowdowns once in a while. The loadtime is quite annoying though. I takes me 1min20secs to get into the game from the point where I hit connect. I\'m running the game from a raid-array with a SIDE-RAID100 raid-controller and 2 IBM GXP60 40GIG harddisks so it can\'t be that. It looks like everythings being loaded at once rather than loading the less important stuff in the background while the game runs.

Well, I dunno, I\'m running Windows XP Pro but even in safe mode there are problems...
Title: lol, 1 fps??? more like 1fpm

This exludes the OS.
What else? I tried also to change video resolution, with no change.
Gotta try some other OpenGL software to check for driver\'s blame...

I ran the CS-demo in WinXP a week ago and got about 0.5 fps with openGL. After I installed a new driver for my Geforce 2 card everything worked out fine.

Here are some tips to speed up your fps:

First:  Make sure you have your latest video cards drivers.  If you havn\'t done this in a while (or never), its likely that your drivers are out of date unless you have a pretty new video card.  This is very important.  Geforce owners can get these here (http://www.nvidia.com).  If you don\'t know what video card you have, in windows, hit start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> device manager tab -> display adapter.  What shows under that is your video card.  You may have to do some web searching to find your cards latest drivers.

Second: Turn off everything in the background using ctrl+alt+del except for Explorer, Systray, and your internet connection.  What shows up for your internet connection varies depending on what service you have I think.  For me its Rnaapp, this might be the same for everyone but I doubt it.

If all else fails, I think that means you need an upgrade.  ;)

Also don\'t forget that this is just a test right now. It hasn\'t been optimized, so low fps is just a thing to deal with for now, until its optimised.

Those thing\'s help me out alot.. and I\'m only running an Athlon 850, with a TNT1 16 mb, 398mb sdram and a lowly 4gb hd.  I get probably 11 or 12 fps, but thats not bad considering how old my vid card is and how good the game looks.

*grrr*
I had not rebooted after installing nVidia drivers, that\'s why.. Microsoft WHDL shitty drivers haven\'t got OpenGL support -_-

Now it is *really* fluid =)

Well, I had no problems installing and getting into the game, but the framerate still isn\'t much to write home about. I\'m using OpenGL mode and a 32MB NVidia TNT2 Ultra video card on a P3-800MHZ computer. Should produce better framerate. I sure hope things do get optimized in time.

They are being optimised.. I saw on the boards somewhere that it could be twice as fast if not more when it gets optimised.. and that was from one of the team-members that work with the game engine.  :D

Hmmm, I prefer to be called Arzosah on these boards, or Arzosi, my ingame name.
