Question, if Planeshift going to have its own theme song with someone singing? You know like the every Final Fantasy in the series had its own theme song and there was someone singing the vocals, just wondering if anyone thought about it.
-
Well, in the final fantasy series, the lyrical songs fit specifically with something in the plot (They actually weren\'t the themes if
I recall, and I think I recall since I was just playing FF9) , and since PS\'s plot is made by the players, we could have a lyrical song, but it wouldn\'t be the same as the FF series\' use of a lyrical song. Just my 2 cents.

(Will they pay someone to sing it? Like Me? No, wait, they\'d pay me not to sing it. ;))
-
Not sure if they are ready to do this, but if they find someone who can sing well they might. Right now, as you can tell, all the songs are just instruments (MIDI?). They do sound great. The temple song is the closest you get to singing :P (Ahhhhhhh... ahhh ahh ah). Maybe someone from the music department can give a better answer.
I don\'t think they would change the theme, as they have a really great one by Bruno Lagarde. Sometimes I listen to it when I get bored :).
-
The songs are actually OGG, though at one point in their lives they were probably midi. (The reason they didn\'t do Midi, as far as I can figure, is that MIDI is played differently on different platforms, and I think they just wanted to take advantage of libOGG (Is there even a libMidi?) )
It would be cool if some Xacha scientists (That\'s who they always say made discoveries in the setting page! :P) made a sort of magic phonograph type thing... and you could make music and sell it... Okay, that will never see the light of day, but it would be cool!

nooo!!! No singing!!!! ;)
I can do an excellent Tenor, but not what you\'d be looking for. :D
-
IF you haven\'t noticed by now almost all the Final Fantasy Midi\'s are remakes of other FF tracks. Now thats not saying all but most are :P Play Final Fantasy 11 and you might notice they have tracks at certain parts from other final fantasys!
PlaneShift doesn\'t need its magical song to make the m00d right, all we need is graphic video of massive armies probally 5 playing attack/defend over a massive castle! Oh and we need the Star Wars theme music when a hero type character is shown!

want to throw in two cents myself, well, first of all, midi isent good for anything but some techno stuff and bad music for a bad driving game, second, you cannot sing to the midi format, wich you may with ogg..
but, yes, planeshift may need a good theme melody, as for the menupages and stuff.
as a composer myself, i have tryed to join the theam, but no good, no mail is answared, non at all, and my computer is so **** up now that i cant use irq :(
hrmf, well, anyway, midi blows arsh, and ogg is in the middle of mp3 and midi, but, it takes no lesser place
(good for webpages) but it is easy to play in games, cause all platforms ever supports it
well, sorry for bothering you
p.s/sorry for my bad english...

Ogg is better than mp3 for most things... the only drawback I guess is if you\'re trying to play ogg\'s on your iPod... MIDI does not ah... \"blow arsh\"... thats just a tradeoff you have to make when you want an entire song in 15 kilobytes... You can add a vocal track to MIDI, but then you have huge filesizes again since it is one step away for flat-out just embedding a \".wav\" track in the .mid file... As for embedding music in webpages (other than where relevant, such as in a flash animation), that is a big no-no. NO-NO! Imagine trying to browse a site at work/school when suddenly your boss/teacher walks in and your computer is singing?! Better than you singing to your computer I guess....
About trying to join the PS team...

What in the name of fluffy bunnies are the PS menu pages? Never heard of them...
What exactly does it mean that you can\'t use IRQ? I don\'t think that you\'d be fiddling with Interrupt ReQuest numbers, but I don\'t know any oter definition for IRQ >.>

well.. i am sitting now in my studio, trying to make something usefull of my time as musican and composer, i could have started on a new album, but no, i dont got time for that, cause i am runing a company composing songs theams, and sound fx\'s for movies, games etc, and we design homepages, 3dmodels and we do a little bit of programming, but *sight * there are always those guys flaming on \"noobs\" just because they are new on the forum *sight again* well lets see, yes, ia have read all about the joining stuffy. i was just making a statment..
hmm, more. my computer are modefied to run sound recording tools, and such stuff, so I cant run irq on it, well i could install gaim, but, then again if i did that, why shouldent i make a webpage with irq-chat on it instead?
and hmm, yes hmm, midi, you just practicaly said what i said about it, hrmf.
and as i said, sorry for my english... by ps menupages i ment the startscreen ( or what it is on english)

I don\'t get it... are you complaining tat I was flaming you?
We have a theme for the loading screen.. One that you probably hear so many time while loading for the first time that you are sick and tired of it...
I didn\'t say what you said about midi... You were bashing it, I was showing you the pros (recap: cross platform, tiny filesizes).
I think you mean icq, not IRQ... IRQ is a lot lower level... has to do with hardware and stuff ;)
josePhoenix
-
i am sorry, i made a typo it was not irq, or icq, i meant irc
and no i dident meant to complain, i just get a little frustrated sometimes, especaly wheni am weary tierd, and i know i must complete something until the morning
and, i may agree that midi is good for some things, though i dont prefer it as a audioformat, midi is good for webpage, and bad techno.. but as is ogg, but for those working with audio all day and night , neither is good.. of course i use midi instruments, but that just as a track in a wav file...
-
Ogg is the format you use when you\'ve finished something and want to \"publish\" it for the world to see... True, not very good for moving between stages of mixing and cleaning up audio.
Midi is good for what you said. Tracks in a wav file to support the instruments and vocals if you lack a full band and huge recording studio with many microphones and mixer thingies and... well, you get the picture :P
Nothing, however, is good for a webpage. No music on webpages or your teacher/boss will get suspiscious since none of the school\'s/company\'s approved webpages have music on them..
IRC... Oh, okay... I wonder if anyone remembers when the new york times\' so-called \"technology\" writer discovered IRC... And went off preaching that it was the source of wareZ, kiddie pr0n, pre-release copies of movies, etc. That was posted on slashdot and everyone had a good laugh... :)

hehehe well, for a cd album, ogg as it\'s standar is not good enough, well, for my standar it is not,
and, well, if you own a company like i do, you would like to present some of the work you have, not just as background music, but maybe as a playlist on the webpage, or to download it, then either midi, or ogg is good my opinion,.. of cource i see the school/boss thingy, but no, it isent only youth in this world, thank god for that, but, lets stop this discussion, we have some sort of understanding, so lets stop before we start flaming each other everytime we *see* each other here
and one other thing, we live in difrent part of the world.. here in norway, music on webpages is aproved, if the webpage is useful either for work or school work :P
-
I\'m not flaming (yet ;)) >.> Unless you have a very different definition of flaming...
On most boards this would pass as a slightly off topic civilized discussion about the merits of various audio formats...
I actually was assuming that you meant something different when you said audio on webpages... I was loudly protesting music that starts playing automatically when you enter a website... that, transitions between pages, and pop-up ads are all on my list of things that I hate with a passion.

me to, me to *lol* well, i aid, before we start flaming eachother.. or that was at least what i meant well, i am to tierd to sit here... well, anyway sorry for any flaming i may have done tonight, i am sorry. and.. hrmf, yes you are right... we are off topic, sorry to the threadstarter

/me chants a spell in a strange tongue and sacrafices a chicken to restore the balance of power and put the thread back on topic
I think they should have lyrical songs in certain places. Like if they ever build that operahouse I wanted...
The problem is getting someone who is willing to make the recording, whose voice isn\'t terrible, and is willing to do it for free. Hard to find those kind of people now...

well as i have said earlier my company has been willing to make songs, soundfx\'s and stuff for PS and we still offers it..
two of us working in the company are musicans/composer, i am singer(all form heavymetal to gosphel) and a realtime instrument composer/player, my m8 is a electronic composer, using midi, and such things.. so we would be competent with making a whole tavern soundtrack with talking, music, broken glass etc.. or maybe just a clean song/melody
best of all, it is free, cause free stuff is splended
-
Before making music, you should read the planeshift liscense... it keeps you from using the art in other mmorpgs and stuff... If you wanted to I\'m sure you could give it completely free, no strings attached though... I am not a lawayer (I ANAL... gotta love acronyms!) so I can\'t decide for you and take your money. *unsheathes sword* Or I could take your money... hehehe... Your GP or your HP!

i want to talk to Luca anyway before contribuiting (was that right?) but the devs are probobly working their ass off, so i do not want to bug him
-
I\'m not talking about the music on the startup screen or loading screen. I\'m talking a seperate song kinda like a music video, but not really a music video. Like the ones in Final Fantasy where they have a vocalist singing at the end of the game.
-
Well actually there is a song at the end of the game in planeshift, except nobody heard it since nobody beat the game ^^;
Anyway, it might be cool, but I\'m affraid it would be harder to make a good song with lyrics than just background music as it is now (and they\'re really good). I\'d rather have no lyrics than a crappy song.
Besides it doesn\'t fit PS universe as well as the FF one IMO.
-
lol, well actually the devs use voices in their music quite a bit. You just have the listen for it. :)
-
I would like to hear vocals at certain points in the game where it fits, though this thread, I believe, is about a theme song based on vocals. For example, a certain tune with vocals could be important for completing a quest. It would also add a lot of immersion to the game, where travelers would pass on songs they heard, etc. Perhaps they will come up with some sort of native tongue to Hydlaa/Yliakum, which music could be sung in? I think language in the game hasn\'t really been touched on.
As long as the quality is as high as the other PS songs, vocals would be fine, but I do not think they should be part of any main theme (that would be repeated), but should be attached to specific events.
-
I think that the theme song for the tech demos should be \"I can\'t get no satisfaction\" not the Brittney Spears one...the Stones one.... :D
*Edit: I just realized that that wasn\'t funny :(
