Ok just a idea I will throw up, sort of a like a lotto but instead of numbers we will pick dates of which the next release comes out :) If you all wanted to work it, we could do it like this

(Example)

   You have until this Sunday to post a date in which you belive the release will come (mm/dd/yy). Every guess you make costs you a 100 crystal (maximum of 5 guesses). Once all guesses are made we wait and if it doesn\'t come within any of those guesses the money is carried over and you make your next guess. If you do place a correct guess you win the WHOLE jackpot, if two people guess the same date and win you share and so on and so forth.  If no winners are accounted for and the release is put out we carry the bets over to THE NEXT release or major update.

  Now in order for this to work, we would need a trustworthy person like a GM ^^ or moderator someone that could be accountable for holding the money or collecting the money when the time comes.

   If we did this and people actually started handing in there bet money and stuff the winner of this could be a VERY rich person within no time.  This could be a ongoing p00L for every big release, could be exciting who knows ^^.

  Just a idea, if its not something you all want to do...no biggie I just got off work and was bored so I figured maybe I\'d do something :)

Could be interesting- but you mgith want to put a limit on how far into the future people can guess, else someone will say 2012, and you\'ll have to wait till then to try again.

Yah good idea any more ideas to add on so it doesn\'t fall through the floor, feel free to post. If we do it, we need responsible  community leaders who will stand forward and take charge. I would but i have a feeling i am not trusted by all :)

Well, really I don\'t think there will be a problem with people stealing crystals...just inform a developer (or GM, whatever) beforehand who your giving it to, and if they run off they can just fix it so that it goes to that person (with the rest of that thieves crystals, for punishment :P )...it\'s been done before. ;)

Good luck with this, seems ok, but I\'m not sure if it will work out. :baby:

Could be interesting :)  Like zabeal pointed out, probobly best to limit the guesses to a time frame (1-2 months should be fine, and if it was outside this date, those who put money down would guess again & new people could add to the pot as well).

If everyone guessed wrong on the date, the pot could go to whomever guessed closest, instead of transfering to the next major release, since the time frame between releases is going to be a while ;)

LOL, I was actually thinking of starting something of this myself but was too lazy to write it up.

Be careful about timezones as well. Will we be guessing the GMT date?

By 100 crystals, you mean rubies, correct?

I\'m gonna guess it comes out 7/15/2004. If no one guesses correctly, will the nearest guess be awarded?

There should also be a limit to the number of guesses you guess.
Let\'s say the max date for the votes is July 31st. Someone could go and guess all the days between today and then.
It\'ll be pretty obvious that someone that does this is going to win.
So to solve it, either make it so no one can vote more than N times, or make it so the costs of guesses by one person go in a geometrical progression. E.g. 1st guess - 100 rubies, 2nd guess - 1,000 rubies, 3rd guess 10,000 rubies. Or something a bit more sane: 1st guess - 100 rubies, 2nd guess - 200 rubies, 3rd guess - 400 rubies.

The first post in this thread suggested 5 guesses as the limit for each person, at 100 rubies per guess.  :)

its not that i wouldnt do it, i just dont think im a known figure..rather have someone the community knows then someone the community sorta knows! Take the job Kiern!

Somehow I think a PayPal pool is a better idea, but since gambling without going through a government-regulated company is illegal in my country, I guess I can\'t do something like that  :D
