Title: Whats a good power supply?
Post by: RussianVodka on July 15, 2004, 07:42:17 pm
Ok, i have a 350watt power supply, and it never bothered me until i got a new Radeon9800pro Video Card. Now, when i run many high-tech games on  max detail, the game starts glitching... usualy it has to do with textures or models (once i had the entire game show in wire frame). Anyways, i have read on some other forums that with the this problem is quite common with the new ATI and Nvidia cards if you dont not have a strong powersupply...

Anyways, can someone tell me of a good and afordable powersupply that i could purcahse?

I had the same problem with my ATi 9700 card and had to go get a new more powerful power supply.   I don\'t even know what brand it was but it did fix my problems.

I know the newer video cards from nvidia require you have at least a 480 power supply. I don\'t know if ATI is the same but I would suggest getting a power supply of at least 480watts. As far as which brands, I have had a great deal of luck in the past with ANTEC power supplies. They seem to be well made and I have not had any problems with any of them going out on me or causing any other problems (I have 3 Antec PS BTW). I don\'t know how much they are running right now but I\'m sure if you searched around online you could find some prices.

Bold\'s right.

Whenever I build a pc with any decent video card, I always up the power supply.

In fact, that was the main problem with some Alienware cases that were sold and preformed poorly. ( I go to school with many ppl who work in AW, they\'re based here  anyways, Miami)

You\'d be surprised how many people make this mistake with fans and lights...

My sugesstion go with the 480 like Boldstorm suggested, those 9800\'s are greedy.  :D Don\'t buy into a flashy-looking one, just make sure its rated for its wattage. Its usually a sticker on the supply. (This is me being anal about power)
