Title: Simple pencil drawings
Post by: Cherppow on July 19, 2004, 04:36:08 am
Hi everyone!

I\'m on holiday and staying at my friend\'s for a little bit, which is the reason why i haven\'t posted any new 3D models for a while. Imagination, however, doesn\'t take holidays, so it was time to pick up my good old pencil...

I\'m no expert, but results follow.

Sketches of new butterfly skins. I haven\'t decided on the colours yet, but i was thinking red for the second one.

Strange 6-winged creature. I thought it could be something like a dragonfly or common fly. A harmless little thing, just buzzing around and looking for open fruit or meat.

A nasty little scavenger. About the size of a chicken, this lizard eats insects, bird eggs, small animals, or anything it can find. Usually they tend to live in small groups. When starving or agitated, they have been known to attack larger creatures, such as humans, but they usually lose the fight and flee.

An arrogant hog portrait. The body is still missing, but it resembles a fat human with pigtail added. I imagined the creature to be about the same size as grown man.

A dumb and rugged gorilla creature. Mellow though. With its intelligence, it\'s hard to say what it thinks, but it does have the brain to use simple rags as clothes. They live in small tribes in the wilderness and are known to construct simple settlements. Some single creatures may understand the principles of trade and simple language.

Worm of a kind. I imagined it to be about the size of a snake. It\'s slimy body leaves a trail, just like a snail does. I imagined it would be a night creature. At night the eye would give it better vision and enable it to hunt efficiently. It\'s not poisonous, but its tail sting may hurt an unprepared traveller. Both the eye and sting are wanted witchdoctor ingredients. The creature is not easy to find in the dark, but if you follow the slime trail...

This is the Pebblecrusher. A dwarf whose arms wielded such a strength, he could crush pebbles with bare hands. Initially he ended up doing mining business.

A barbarian of almost gigantic size. You might face one of these in the gladiator ring. Its weakest link is its poor equipment, as it tends to use all its earnings to food and beer.

A golem. Or a statue. Or both. This lawful and obedient entity is big, strong, and hard as iron ...literally! Standing as tall as two grown men, these huge creatures are feared inhabitants of the stone labyrinths. Some people belive they were created by magical means, while others think that they have arrived through the portals. No one has been able to communicate with them either, as they have no visible mouths.

(rest of the pics are larger, so i\'ll post the links)
http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Creatures01.JPG
A strange couple. Fat golem with a slime. The two creatures have no deeper bond, they just happened to be in same place at the crucial moment. The fat thing is pretty slow moving omnivore. It likes to take long mud-baths and enjoys its privacy. If approached, it usually defends its current dinner, by charging in a reckless frenzy. The slime is carnivorous. It eats its prey by engulfing it inside the liquid slime body. Slimes mostly eat insects and small creatures, but they will try to digest anything that they come across. Two or more slimes can combine into one larger clump, and divide back to separate ones, as they will. In the deep wilderness, is rumored to live a gigantic slime colony, with over 100 slimes joined together.

http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Mushrooms.jpg
Close peek to some mushroom research of mine.

http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Signs01.JPG
I was browsing through the other sections of the forum and found out that the PS team was looking for some symbols. Don\'t mind the names.

http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Signs02.JPG
  ...i got carried away ;)

http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Alphabet.jpg
The alphabet were some of my earlier designs. (Actually the idea is from Ultima) I thought that a different alphabet would bring the game more depth. Maybe the main alphabet would still be the common latin one, but some specific sub-group could have their own set of characters. For example some magical scrolls could be written in different alphabet. This would make the game harder for new mages, but after a while you begin to remember the new alphabet. An experienced wizard would read this encrypted scroll without any trouble.

I added some more pictures and background information. :)
Any comments welcome! See you later!

thaose look....pretty good. The detail in the hog face struck me, the folds of the skin and the eyes and the nose. Very nice sketches.

That fat golem looks very good.

You have style, I like that. You don\'t just sketch, but you have a way of drawing that makes things more interesting.

Very nicely detailed.

Nice ... thats one hell of a lot of symbols, I like the really geometric ones at the bottom of the 4th link personally.

Very nice style.  Interesting.

Im curious to know how you drew these.  Did you start with any basic shapes or anything like that?  I can\'t see any erased pencil marks.  They are very clean.

Hi and thanks for the comments!

I added the new pics to the first post, so that they\'re easier to view together.

To Eraglous:
Thanks for your interest. I like to draw a simple form first, a human body or such, and then add more and more details. In the end, some shadows too. And i do erase a lot! ;) I added some brightness and contrast to fade the false lines.

I was having trouble adding new pics to the first post, i think they may have some limit to the number of pics or the maximum height of the post. Well, no matter, i\'ll just post this here then.

Mixed set of items. Bucket, brick, torch, gravestone, hatchet and broccoli. Maybe I\'ll turn them into 3D models some day.

Great art, keep it up! :) I like most sketch artists better than those who colour their work, for the simple reason that half the colour artists I see don\'t have a clue how to colour. Sketches have alot more freedom with the style and much better shadow/highlight contrast.

I can\'t really colour stuff myself, which is why I always prefer sketching. But it\'s always good to practice... you don\'t get better by shying away from something you suck at. :)

And thank you all for the comments, you make it worth the while :)

To DepthBlade:
Thanks! I\'m not an artist either, this is just a hobby. I agree that pencil drawings are not the most visually enjoyable of images. Yet i find them fun and easy to do. I actually draw these simple images simultaneously as my imagination creates them. ;) And if any of them turn out to be any good, i can easily begin adding more detail and later on, maybe some colouring too. The drawback, in addition to low quality, is large quantity of scrappy pics everywhere.

To Mogura:
Thank you! Wise words; it\'s hard to learn without doing, and it\'s only humane to make mistakes. In the end, i still try to get better with the pencil first, before taking the leap to colouring. Other threads here at fan art show that i have a long way to go. ;) Oh, and seeing your gryphon creature makes it hard to belive that You couldn\'t colour.

To the fan art itself then. As it turned out to be impossible to place all the pictures to the first post, i\'ll just add them to new posts from now on.

  Yet even more butterfly skins.

A dog-looking thing with a lot of fur. I was lazy and drew it from simple side view.

(sorry, this pic was just a little bit too wide)
http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Creatures_Birdy.jpg
A bird. I imagined it to be about the size of a raven and live as a raven does.

A young apprentice mage. Just passed the exam and earned the right to the robe and personal spellbook. While she may not be much of a magician yet, she clearly has some potential.

Good night everyone!

Greets everyone!

Thanks for the comments. I haven\'t scanned my recent works yet, so no new pictures at the time.

To smoak:
A good guestion. The worm entagles its victims with slime (just like a spider does with its web). It then wraps its body around the immobile prey and digests it. As the creature has no visible mouth, it absorbs the slime decayed carcass, through its skin. After the corpse is sucked dry, the worm leaves it in a slimy pond and continues hunting.

I\'m planning to add information about the posted creatures. Later though. Bye for now and thanks for your interest. :)

Hey again!

I\'m about to continue 3d works again, so these may be the last pencil drawings you\'ll see from me. Hopefully some of you have enjoyed them, i know i did! :)

Dioctyros. An alligator-like carnivore that lives on the submerged lower levels of Yliakum. Pretty dangerous for any of the carbon-based humanoid races. Dioctyros tends to live alone or in groups of 2-10 individuals. While it spends most of its life underwater, the creature is also able to traverse small distances on land.

A Pachypteon. Large dinosaur-like herbivore. It spends most of its life eating tree leaves and leaves travellers to mind their own business. It\'s habitat consists mainly of fields and forests, the caves don\'t have enough green plants to sustain pachypteon population.

Felis domesticus. Common cat. Far relative of the Enkidukai. (much like chimps-humans) While they find each other quite interesting species, they share no deeper bond.

An Enkidukai shopkeeper. The neck and ears could use some fixing. Despite the looks, he still has acquired some trias.

A bull Gokh. A mellow herbivore about the size of pony. Its food consists of grass, leaves, roots... basically anything containing chlorophyl. It prefers plains to caves, and lives in large packs. Some individuals have been tamed and transformed into beasts of burden.

Hypher creature. An chicken-sized omnivore. Much like a kangaroo, this creature moves around by jumping with its strong rear limbs. While it generally posesses no threat, it will protect its food and fellows. Hyphers have limited memory, and they will remember who attacked them and who gave them food. Do not be surprised if, in the wilderness, you find yourself surrounded by friends... or foe.

Common lizard. A lizard eats insects and small worms. Its size prevents it from being anything but a rare amusement. Some witchdoctors belive that lizard tails have magical powers, and execute crude experiments to these little fellows, but this rumor has not been proven true nor false.

Rilly. This hare-sized critter eats anything it can get its little claws on. A pack of rilly consists of several dozen individuals, and typically lives in an underground hive somewhere near humanoid settlement. While someone may consider rilly a cute sight, more than one farmer certainly disagrees. Pretty harmless thing, nevertheless.

A Snatcher. This creature resembles a small primate, hanging from tree branch, upside down. Thats as far as the resemblense goes, however. Snatcher uses its strong forelegs to attack any unsuspecting prey that treks under its tree. The creature grabs its victim and drags it high up the tree, where it cuts the meat to pieces and stores it for a rainy day. While it is a feared acquintance within the lower level characters, an experienced traveller quickly turns this hunter into his/her evening supper.

Young druid girl. Deep in the forests are rumored to live this nature loving society; druids. Not much is known of this culture, but they are pictured to live literally as one with the nature. The bond may reach to such a degree that the nature not only listens the druids, but talks to them too. Some far travellers speak of whole forests that seem to whisper behind your back... but that must be just superstition.

Good night! :)

Hello!

Well, i promised to stop torturing your eyes with my crude drawings, but i simply couldn\'t help it. ;) Sorry about that.

A little exercise with color pencils, featuring some tree research.

Palm tree. Not very original, but very visual. It can instantly generate a tropical environment to certain area. Palm trees thrive in warm and somewhat dry atmosphere. Maybe somewhere near an energy pulsating crystal. Different palms generate different fruits (dates, coconuts) that can be used for food.

A root of Eleeni tree. Artists vision of tree growing near the submerged lower levels. It\'s roots have spread to cover a large area, compensating to the lack of solid growing ground. This makes it possible for the eleeni to grow on muddy underwater ground. The tree itself is very straight and can grow up to 60 meters tall.

Pine. This tall tree survives in cold and harsh environmens. It can generate huge, yet clear forests, that are easy to trek. The pine drops its lower branches as it grows, leaving a clear space at the ground level. Many berries, such as blueberry, enjoy this kind of forest. Pine is also very usable board tree, with its long and straight trunk.

Peo is a small bush that has distinctive olive coloured leaves. It survives with very little water and soil, and inhabits smaller caves, where theres not enough room for trees. Peos also grow scattered around plains, where ever they can find a cool spot. They don\'t like the heat too much.

I named this cactus plant Perennay. (hopefully that doesn\'t mean anything) It has no branches, just a 3 meter tall trunk that contains chlorophyl in its surface. After 10 years age the plant develops red dots, on the bark, that are actually Perennay flowers. Seeds drop off from these holes to surrounding area, and start to grow as new plants. Perennay populations are too sparse to be named forests. The plant typically grows on deserts and wastelands, where there\'s too little water for two plants to grow side by side.

Duirn tree. This 10 meter tall plant grows on subtropical environmens. It\'s leaves are long and thin, and they hang down from the short branches. The trunk has an orange fade and shape of a pear. Duirn grows its fruit in its roots. The fruit itself is a black, oval shaped, and about the size of ostrich egg.

And now for something completely different...

Gold viperian. This underground creature resembles a large snake or salamander. It\'s easily identified, by the color on its back, from the cousin, green viperian. Golden ones generally grow larger and are more agressive than the green ones. Viperians dig large nets of underground tunnels, and thus move undetected. An adult individual can weigh several hundred kilograms, and lenght over 10 meters.

Tips welcome! :)

Hey again.

It seemed to me that simple pencil drawings needed some new blood. Here it is.

Granite Meek - Krans smaller and less intelligent cousin.  This small animal inhabits some of the distant tunnels of stone labyrinths. It has no love for strangers, yet it does not hate them, as long as they don\'t steal his food; cave crystals. Although small, Meeks stony feet make a distinct clunking sound when it traverses along hard surfaces. Meeks carry no items, except for what they\'ve eaten...

Desert Frungy - Sleek dweller of the barren deserts. The frungy are somewhat intelligent and live in society that resembles native american indians. They value nature and land, and tend to live in perfect harmony with them. Although humans easily get lost in deserts, the frungy have natural ability to find their way out there, amidst the dunes.

Deep Spider - Amphibious lurker of the depths. Below the surface opens an ecosystem of its own. This creature can be found only from the darkest corners of submerged levels. And luckily so; Deep Spiders are very agile and strong and the pincer beak can crush even solid metal plates. Their only known weakness is the hate of light.

Aius Dog - Jungle hunter. Roaming around thick forests, the Aius Dog resembles modern day tiger. It hunts both day and night, whenever it\'s hungry. Aius dogs are slightly larger and stronger than common dogs, but not quite as fast. They\'re also a bit dumber, not being able to hunt in groups or be tamed.

Prickly Imp - Those who have travelled through magic portals to distant worlds, tell the tale of prickly imps. They originated from a demonic world, where they served greater beings. Some of them escaped their masters and travelled to other worlds, where they now harass each and every living being. These imps cannot be trusted, reasoned with or liked. They steal, pinch, urinate and beat you with sticks. They\'re intelligent, foolhardy, and have inborn lust to try everything.

Mitec Knave - Far relative of giant cave spider. Mitecs live in caves, but also enjoy watery areas. They move swiftly both on land and in water. Mitec swimming resembles that of a jellyfish. It\'s a common carnivore of the shores. It typically stalks its prey from distance and sneaks closer, until it can reach its victim with a long jump. Sometimes it \'jumps an unsuspecting fisherman.

Namoii - Sentient encounter from the underwater world. Namoii have lived underwater for all their history, and have adapted to it well. They move around like squids, and form small colonies of several dozen individuals. Namoii are very intelligent race and have complex society. They\'re generally very friendly, and may often give you gifts such as shells from the bottom of the ocean.

Veloran Thief - Velorans are very sneaky and cunning race. They always have glimmer of gold in their eyes, mostly because they originate from really poor environment, and they\'ve never tasted real prosperity. Usually when a veloran acguires a gem, he either eats it to prevent others from stealing it, or carries it constantly in his fist, mumbling something about precious. (see Lord of the Rings) ;)

Toirk Blythe - Wild pig. Toirk Blythes roam the wilderness in packs, led by powerful alpha male. Although herbivores, these animals, especially the commanding male, are pretty agressive towards strangers. Unwelcome guests often find themselves being chased to by a hulking, several hundred kilogram pig. Only the Toirk Blythe males have fangs.

(contains minimal nudity, so i\'ll just post a link)
http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Creatures_Headless.jpg
Headless - Gross manifestation of evil. Although these beings are not beheaded comrades of your last exploits, but an indigenous race, they still provoke fear and disgust. It is certain that some twisted minds and great magic have contributed to creation of this race, it cannot have been formed by evolutionary means. In addition to its looks, the mind of a headless seems to be very hazy; it may be quite mellow... just before it tries to strangle you.

Now this is a collection of plants for herbal or nutritious needs. Haven\'t thought of the names yet, but the idea is to create some native greens to Yliakum.

Thanks for reading! :) (what a long one page thread)

Your work is briliant, I wish you\'d stop calling it simple, you might offend the less talented individuals around here, like me!
Your Hypher creature wouldn\'t work... the tail is too short. The tail is the most important thing for Kangaroos, I\'ve seen enough of them to know that.

That\'s the only problem I see. Keep up the good work, and yes, you should apply for a dev position.

I\'m trying to learn to do animations in max, do you mind if I try my hand at modeling and animating, say, the Toirk Blythe (it\'s got a nice simple skeletal system I think)?

great art!
(like you, some of my art is not in the same level like the other. Only I never publish works that I think are not good enough)

The items sketches are amazing, and the creatures well done.

On the humans, on the other hand, you have some problems that make them look unrealistic (for some reason when you drew the Golem, you didn\'t have any of those...).

To make faces look more realistic spend more time looking at real human faces. try making caricatures maybe. You\'ll find many details you dodn\'t know about.

Also, it seems you use several styles - from totally realistic (namoii, golem, toirk) to semi cartoon (prickly imp, frungy, granite meek), to manga-like (the two girls).

I tend to beleve cartoon-like creatures won\'t be used in the game (since in 3D they\'s look like toy-story characters). So they can be fun (to draw and watch), but when you draw cartoon-like you can drop the stats.

By the way, the reason I don\'t draw simple objects is that they can easily be found in images search-engines. so they are less needed for visualization.

But they are still good drawings :)

I think your art is amazing and very creative!  Maybe you could try to use some darker or more defined shading (a softer pencil perhaps like a 4B or even a 6B) that would give them some more dept and more defined characteristics.  i would love to see a picture if you do try that.

Hiya!

Thanks for the comments everybody, they\'re very welcome. It\'s always nice to see that someone has checked out your work, and even seen them as what they represent, not only as pictures. For that i thank you.

To Moogie: Thanks again, though i think now you\'re just trying to flatter me, i\'m not that good. :) You know when i first got PS, i read many of your guides. Impressive work i must say. And you deserve thanks for your patience with newbies.

To Adeli: Nice that you like them. And I sincerely apologize if i have offended anyone, it has not been my intention. And true, the \'simple pencil drawings\' title may be a bit misleading, for these are the best that i can do. But still, if compared to real artists\' work, mine is pretty simple. Anyhow, i doubt that one can change the title after the thread is created.
Very observative! The Hyphers\' tail is indeed poorly suitable to kangaroo style consecutive jumping. I may have to change that to locust or frog style jumping. :)

To Smoak: You\'re right of course, the Aius Dog doesn\'t have the streamlined body of a feline. Felines typically catch their prey by outrunning them over short distances. Aius Dogs can\'t do this, so they\'ll have to rely more on surprise and ambush, to which their habitat (forest) is optimal for. Poor Aius, if you only were intelligent enough to hunt in packs! ;)

To ArcaneFalcon: Very polite of you to ask; you may of course. It\'s basically a spine on two legs. I apologize for taking so long to answer.

To the_duke: Good tips! I agree that i have a lot to learn about human faces, especially the female ones. As the face and its impression plays most important part in human recognition, they should be drawn with skill. All the wrinkles, every hair has a story to tell!
I myself don\'t think too much about styles, i just draw. Of course the more time you\'re willing to sacrifice for a picture, the better it usually becomes. This may be one reason why one may see different styles here; some pics took 2 hours, some 2 minutes. In addition to the former, the line width and darkness certainly differs from pic to pic. Some of the pics were so small that i had to zoom them (-->broad line) and some were so big i had to make them smaller (-->thin line). Some pics also had to suffer brightness/contrast changes (--> light/dark lines). Just my speculation though. But the female faces are bad due to my lack of skill.

To Sea-Monkey: Good idea, i should have a pencil set somewhere in here... but i don\'t promise anything. I tend to use only the HB as it\'s the only pencil i carry around with me. Most of these pics are actually drawn while in a train.

To Emaib: Thank you :) Maybe you have a good idea what i should draw next? I\'m actually growing little weary of these creatures. Maybe items, plants, trees, rocks, areas, effects, maps, cultures, suggestions... actually i have some ideas already, but the suggestions section is so full of suggestions that its making even a grown man cry. :)

To Mondo: Thanks for the encouragement. Although usually talent is just hard work! ;)

To leji: I liked the butterfly idea too, that\'s something i\'d like to see in PS. They shouldn\'t be over used though. Drawing is fun! It\'s not only the result, but the working too is rewarding.
Are you refering to the name \'Cherppow\' [Tsch erp pou]? \'tis a good name, and it has a story on its own! But i often get confused for a girl. Admit it, more than half of you first thought i was a girl ...and the rest still do! ;) Sorry to disappoint you!

A little fanart then.

Pices Gaul - Scaly friends from the depths. This race of creatures lives well beyond the waterline, mostly habiting natural underwater caves and decorating them with esthetic shell houses. They\'re a little smaller than average human, but quite as intelligent. They form small underwater towns where they live in a very compassionate society. They have comprehensive understanding in magics, and have the knowledge to harness magic from crystals. These crystals are not only used as a light source in the dark caves; to encourage trade between different races, the Gaul sometimes create artificial breathable atmosphere bubbles for visitors to spend a night in. One of such bubble is located at Pices city of Juoi Meilef. It has been there for the last three years and has become quite a well known sight. This small \'underwater island\' has limited plant life too.

This is Ryc Avagan.

Gap Sylak - Lazy hairball from the fields. Gap Sylaks are common omnivores all around Yliakum. They eat pretty much what they can easily find; they don\'t spend much effort trying to catch something that runs away. At night Sylaks retreat to their underground tunnels for sleep, and don\'t wake up until well after noon. Lazy creatures as they are, Gap Sylaks hardly even fight back when attacked, they prefer curling themselves into a ball of hair. The hair of Sylak is very thick and each hair has small thorn like hooks on them. Should a predator take a bite, the hair would stick to its mouth and tongue, resulting in very unpleasant feeling. Not only this but the Gap Sylaks sweat and urinate through their skin, causing the hairs to smell and taste unbeliveably bad. Some locals have made up a saying \'slept with a sylak\' after having woken up from beside an unpleasant companion.

Hopar Dyge - Tripedal small wild pony. This creature lives on grassy open areas. Hopar Dyges move and live in small packs, eating grass and leaves with their long tongues. They tend to be tame to a certain extent, and may even eat from your hand. A pack of Dyges is easily identified from their cowlike moo-moo cries. The pitch is somewhat higher though. Some biologists are especially interested in this creatures\' special together grown back limb.

Swamp Slug - Slimy entity from near the swamps. Swamp slugs are larger and more agressive than common slugs. Greatest of them are known to have grown to about one meter long. The lack of weapons and teeth&claws significally reduce the threat they posess. A slug simply attacks by tossing itself at an enemy. The lack of bones greatly reduces any blunt weapon damage done to a slug. Swamp slugs require body of water to live, and they only exist near such.

That\'s all folks. Thanks for your interest!

Wait, i have something extra!

Cherppow - My friends impression of me. Hopefully i\'m not quite that broad.

Here\'s another view of cherppow\'s Pices Gaul.

time limitations don\'t allow me to draw a field of gap sylaks.

By the way, are these your fingers as the Hopar legs?

Hi!

Very nice! Just like the original. I wonder what spell he is casting ;) The fish on lower left has a wacky expression.

Nope, i have much shorter nails. Hopar legs sure do resemble fingers, but it\'s actually a special hoof that helps Hopar Dygi to stay balanced while running, as it only has 3 legs.

The \'f\' in the second line of the alphabets  looks exactly like an elvish \'g\' rune from LOTR.

Anyway nice work!

Hi all!

To Fearinox: That may well be, although not intentionally. Most of the runes have their roots even deeper in our history than just LOTR. I think Mr. Tolkien may have used the same source as i: viking age. It\'s actually very hard to create something original; you subconsciously use the things already in your memory and mix them up in a new way.

To Toadhead: Not only the neck, but check where the tail starts from. Seems like right thigh to me! :)

Hmm, i don\'t have any new drawings scanned. But maybe this old one will suffice. It was my first post ever to the LWW.

(sorry, png isn\'t supported by the board)
http://www.hut.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/PlaneShift_VR_Sketch_Ponnylus.png

Original description:

A sketch of rock munching creature. I called it by the name of Ponnylus. I imagined them to behave like modern day elephants; living in small groups and having no natural enemies that could penetrate their tough skin. They would only attack you if constantly irritated and some individuals could even be tamed. But usually they would just give you a puzzled glance and continue their favourite hobby: munching rocks. With its critter-like foreteeth a Ponnylus would gnaw rocks from the walls of the cave it lives in. The creature could then carry the rocks around in its mouth, just like pelican carries fish. After acquiring a mouthful, Ponnylus would head back to its home cavern and begin the long process of digesting. Thanks to strong acids and chemical compounds in the creature\'s stomach the rocks would eventually break into useful minerals. These acids however make the creature\'s breath almost unbearably horrible. Herd of Ponnyluses could fill a cave with their cow-like cries... and the cave below with eerie thuds from their footsteps.  Ps. the man is for measurement.

Hello,

here\'s something that got created while reading through the setting section of PlaneShift homepage.

A page from Cherppow\'s log book. :)

The picture was quite large and had to be shrunk generously. Hopefully you can still make something out of it. Note that this is only artists impression of PlaneShift world, based on the story found at http://www.planeshift.it/setting.html . ( It may or may not hold any resemblance with the actual PS world. ) Still, if you find clear conflicts with the PS setting, please inform me.

To Phinehas: You\'re right. Though the big shoulder plates make the helm seem even smaller than it is. The one thing that bothers me even more than the head, is the right arm. Its\' perspective just doesn\'t match the rest of the pic.

To whemyfield: Thanks! I think people are just too excited about CB to come and check the fanart. ;)

Hi there!

To JellyWerker: Thanks! Though, i\'m not sure i deserve all these stars. Many artists here are way better than i. I\'m really poor at colouring for instance.

I do want to see your drawings, there\'s never too many sketches and pictures around planeshift! The more morbid, the more fun. ;)

I\'m staying at my family for the Christmas and i don\'t have a scanner with me here, so i\'ve no pencil drawings to post.

ok, I will post some lesser morbid stuuf when I get my scanner, I am finally building a pc that will run ps, and I am getting a scanner with it. I like to draw simple penguins with upside down eyes, like this:

Hello.

To JellyWerker: Those look exactly like something a character/creature animator would love to have. :)

Ah, here\'s some simple pencil drawings.

The working name of this creature was Norpel, but a quick google research showed that it\'s actually widely used surname, so i decided to use... umm... Pnorrel, yes, that\'s good. Pnorrel is a lizard with the size of a cat. It prefers to live in areas that provide plenty of small holes and tunnels for it to hide in. It eats mostly insects, but doesn\'t mind having berries or tasty fruits every now and then. Pnorrels live and move alone.

Cherppows vision of \'evil thing\'. I named it Xych. It propably originates from a demonic world and lives only to harass any lawful or neutral aligned people. Note: 2B pencil was used for the darkest areas. *Edit* I gave the Xych some darker figures with 4B pencil.

A mark of true fan - the 20 page PS player\'s guidebook! Includes full map of the sewers & best mineral deposits. Written by Cherppow Greywood & Tind Gloevenhand! ;) I fixed the crystal as was promised. The book has grown to include a complete map of Ojaroad and list of available trainer NPCs.

they look good. did you actually make a hand book?
the pnorrel looks a little too lumpy (and tail less) to be classified as a lizard. it looks to me like a elephant trunk with  big eyes, and a thin anteater-like tongue

Soo...Cherppow...you gonna start selling that book on ebay for 19.95 a pop?  I bet you could get rich off it. :P  The only problem is the 6 sided crystal on the cover, the others are all 7 sided, but who\'s counting?

Aye, the other two pictures are great.  And a 2B?  Why didn\'t you just whip out an ebony?  That guy definitely needs braces, and his nose looks like Michael Jackson\'s nose (making it all the scarier).

:emerald:

Edit:  Maybe you could shade the left side of the teeth on the second one?  It looks like his teeth are in a straight line right now, rather than the U that most people\'s teeth are in.

:emerald:

Title:
Post by: Cherppow on January 09, 2005, 10:31:36 pm
To smoak: Yes i did, it\'s just made of simple drawing paper though. If you look really close, you can see some text through the booktop. You maybe right, i made Pnorrel\'s back just a little bit too unsmooth. It\'s ment to be a bit wormlike though. Its eyes are like chameleons.

To ArcaneFalcon: That would hardly get me that rich, as it took hours to make just few pages. ;) I\'m not exactly having a printing press here. You\'re absolutely right about the crystal. I\'ll have to fix that. I\'m not promising anything about fixing the Xych, but thanks for the tips!

Thanks for Kixie and JellyWerker too!

Wow! Somehow that critter just looks dazzling! If someone would actually put that thing in the game {with really good AI [definatly not what we have now]} in some forest area with a lot of tall gigantic trees. Every player in PS would want to catch this critter! Nice, really nice!

BTW this Diaboli (or should it be Diabola for females?) is  supposed to be a rare gray with black hair and purple eyes.
I was going to colorize her later. *looks at Cherppows work*  Maybe not. ;(

Hi,

and thanks everybody.

To Under the moon: I could hardly draw a diabolo (I think its -li as plural and -lo otherwise) on paper. It\'s much harder. You can\'t edit-undo! ;) In addition, the toon colouring is very simple; before resizing the picture had 16 unique colors (most of which i snatched from Fiere\'s signature :P ). I think yours is great! If i have to give a tip, you could enlargen the left hand just a tiny bit, and maybe move the tail starting point a couple of millimeters to the right. Not that i\'m staring at her.. tail, or anything ;)

Hi all!

And thanks for the comments.

To mikedean: Hey now, don\'t say that! I\'ve seen some of your art and it\'s very nice. And that picture did take me more than two hours to do, and i had a lot of trouble drawing certain areas. :)

To Pogopuschel: Heh looks like that pic was taken from my \'messy install\' that i\'ve messed up. ;) The chat & info window are part of a gui modification that i\'m doing just for fun. It\'s still badly unfinished, can\'t say if I ever get it done. ;) The mouse pointer at ps-mc.com is intended as a part of that mod.

To Kixie: If you\'re still amazed after this post, please go to the nearest doctor ;) Just kidding. thanks you! Sorry to disappoint you, i\'ve no finished drawings to post this time.

To wormking: Thanks! Drawing has been a hobby of mine for almost as long as i can remember. But there are far better artists here at the forums, real professionals, as you can see in various threads.

To Sarrow: That might be a nice variation, though it would propably take even more time ;) The Cherppow and Elscha picture was done to an A4, but it filled only half of it, so you could call it an A5. Anyway, it was roughly 1100*1600 pixels after scanning, so what you see here is about 40% of the original.

Good evening everyone.

Some drawings again. :)

Tiip?p? - A small and harmless little thing. She enjoys sitting on branches and watching characters being generated. ;) (Sorry for the o-with-two-dots, but I had promised someone to name it that.)

Carnivorous plant - A dangerous, yet immobile entity. Carnivorous plants reside in deep and dark forests where the sunlight seldom reaches. They mimic big flowers until a prey wanders close enough to be surprise attacked. The flower opens its huge jaw and quickly shreds its target into bits, with its sharp teeth. The danger can be avoided if the flower is spotted from a distance, since it is rooted into ground, and unable to hunt down its pray. Once spotted it makes an easy target for bowmen.

Crabfish - A special kind of shore fish. The Crabfish live near shores but they can also be spotted near swamps and other small bodies of water. They carry a hard shell with them, that acts as their home and protection. Unlike regular crabs, the Crabfishes pincers are soft, and used to grab plants and algae from the seabed.

Mixed plant items.

Close-up of three plants. Oh wait, the last one is no plant, but a starfish!

An old woodie creature. It lives as a hermit in the far wilderness, most likely in small hut on some forest edge. There it researches magics, alchemy, plants and animal life.

Head portrait of a goblin creature. (I thought it would be some variation to see how I manage to draw it further.) It\'s now as finished as I can make it.

Any comments welcome!

To Under the moon: Thank you. They\'re just for funniness though. Hmm, banana you say? (*hates banana taste*) ;) I can\'t eat \'em, I will puke.

To JellyWerker: Aye, you maybe right. From now on, I\'ll just call them \'drawings\'. :) You can see more information about ? and Finnish pronunciation at
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/finnish.pronunciation.html

To sekhmet: Thank you :) Ah, a single drawing doesn\'t take that much time. And I carry my pencil everywhere, so I can draw something even if I had just 15 mins of time, waiting for a bus or between lectures. Plus, you don\'t get so bored as you would by just waiting still.

To Djaggernaut: Thanks Sir. I take it that you\'re refering to the two latter plants pictures. Unfortunately my colouring skill is mediocre. Also thanks for the texturing tips! I\'m not sure if you\'re leaving the team or not, but I surely hope that you would stay around. Your weapons set looks great too, a fine example for us \'lesser artists\'.

Thought you could sneak one in, huh?:D Turning out nice though. Very devious looking.

Excellent work as always, Goodmaster Cherppow. Would these be concept sketches for the game, or just for fun?

Hmmm...that last plant looks a bit like it should taste like banana. :D

They should have a in game char for that woody guy.  Your plant drawings are good as well.  I specially like that vicious flower :D  it looks nice, reminds me of that movie/musical... forgot the name.. the plant always goes \"feeeeed meeeh\"

Good job Cherppow

That woodie is great! I want to be one. Reminds me of bananas...just kidding. It realy reminds me of the Mystics from Jim Henson\'s \'The Dark Crystal\'. I love those guys. To bad all the races are centered around fighting. This would be a great RP addition.

Very nice work Cherppow.

I really like your plants work, this is from far your best work among the others IMO.

You should consider working as a 2D artist for pro game companies if you can color your work.

true it does look like that plant but think about it, you must have seen a toothy plant like that one somewhere else, everyone likes to make man-eating plants, always fly catcher looking ones though never flowers or the like have you noticed?
great work as always cherppow, anyone else think the crabfish looks like a crosoint (those french roles i forget the spelling) with a head?

wow, really nice work the shading and detailing are lovely

and I wouldnt give the plant thing a second thought every single \"monster plant\" is going to be pretty similar given its implimentation in about every fantasy/scifi/bloody everything

but yeah your works lovely, the body composition is fab too I\'d be really interested to see it coloured as well

Hello!

And thanks everyone, it\'s always a pleasure to read your replies.

To smoak: Very true, there is a resemblance between the crabfish and a croissant. Maybe they should taste similar too? :)

To Kintall: Thank you! Good to see you\'re still visiting here by the way. :) You helped me get started with these forums and \'Simple 3d models\' thread. Much of my inspiration derives from those days. Unfortunately I don\'t have time to try the colouring now, as I\'ve been asked to draw some sketches. But I\'ll be sure to think about it when I finish these sketching jobs.

I realized that there are plenty of new potions in the game. Their similar looks inspired me to draw some unique flasks.

Hello everyone.

Thanks guys. Here is one sketch I was requested to draw. It\'s supposed to picture a female Ylian from few different views. I\'m sure some of you have better knowledge in female body composition than I, so feel free to post your tips. :)

I hope this is not seen as nudity.
In addition to front and side views, I drew one shot of her in more appropriate, Ylian-like clothing. While there was free space on the paper, the mouth-nose-combination got fitted there, beside some of my planning notes.

Thanks.

Great work on those flasks man, great variety. If PS team needs some of them, i can model them, but if they need it.

And for that female ylian sketch thanks man, i am working on it, the legs and torso is done but i am having some difficulty in creating the arms as you\'ve drawn them sideways which are more difficult to model than arms drawn as perpendicular to the body, but then, it\'s ok, i accept it as a challange and i am working on. Thanks again buddy!

Hello everyone.

Thanks for the posts.

To Black_rose: Thank you. I\'m quite interested in my current area of study (communication technologies) though, so no comics from me. :)

To DivineLight: Thanks, glad to be of service. Sorry for the hands, I should have given it more thought. Well, always good to learn new things :)

Here are the latest:
(I\'m trying to save some space by not using unique images for everything)
Cambic moss - This strange looking projection is a community of different algae and moss that live in symbiosis together. To the tree this hanging sack is a parasite. It draws nutrients from the tree branch, slowly killing that part of the tree, as it grows larger and hungrier by each passing month. The surface of the moss sack is quite dark, but its inside is bright rust coloured. It\'s not edible, but some rare alchemical recipes require small sample of Cambic moss.

Trench Minoc - A creeper from the mud. This animal resides in muddy swamps and tunnels in which it can burrow itself to the soaky ground. They\'re only about the size of a chicken, but in groups they can surprise an unwary traveller. Although Trench Minocs enjoy diving deep into the mud, they usually move on top of it. Much like a snake swims, Minocs use their multiple tentecles to spread the body weight and crawl over the mud.

A mixed set of creatures. They\'re not in same scale; Caiculk and Garrack are much bigger beasts than the rest. Bulrii are somewhat intelligent, much like dogs, and Branch sage is very intelligent spirit that usually appears in the form of a wooden face.

The plant kingdom is diverse.

Plants continue. Some animals too. Vedian flapper is a rooster sized pet. It can learn to mimic some words of spoken language, much like parrots. Sand Cricket is a common bug; can bite, but mostly harmless.

(sekhmet was wondering about a rock monster, so here\'s my version)
Tunnel Garamond - A rock troll. Slightly larger than the Kran, Tunnel Garamonds compose of different stone varieties. Being massive and strong creatures, they usually look down on smaller creatures, and laugh at their general direction. If angered Tunnel Garamonds go total berserk, hitting with their fists, throwing rocks (or smaller creatures), and running over their victims.

That\'s all for now.

Hi all!

Long time no drawings. So here\'s a cure:

Face portrait of a Lucrecian female. They tend to live in their own underground towns, and seldom travel around. Their body resembles that of a slim and tall human, with the exception of the projections that grow from their bodies. Lucrecian\'s skin is tough and heavy, almost wood-like.

\"What have we done.\" - Owl Taull looked lost in his thoughts. He and his brother-in-arms, Kaiser Sneir, stood alone in the middle of battlefield. \"We killed them all.\" - Kaiser Sneir replied.

A salamander snake. Very agile predator that takes residence in thick forests. There it can find critters and other small prey to hunt. While not a real threat to larger creatures, it can still scare you off by dropping to your lap from a treebranch.

This is a snail tick. It\'s slimy body helps it to attach to animals that pass by. You can also see how someone\'s trying to touch it. The nail speaks for itself.

A squirrel rat. Somewhat intelligent small critter that can survive in most parts of Yliakum. Squirrel rat eats berries, eggs, insects and any leftovers from human dinner tables. Some squirrel rats have become quite tame over time, and they often return to the house where they were given food. They hide some of their catchings for a rainy day.

Toon style female enkidukai. MS Paint. :D

That\'s all folks. Well, I did do a funny pic about Karyuu being \'furryous\', but I\'m not going to double post it here. See \"Faces behind players (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=13181&boardid=19&page=4)\" & \"Comments on Faces behind players (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=13184&boardid=19&page=17)\" threads if you\'re interested.

To leji: Heh, as long as it\'s for your own use only, I don\'t mind. :P

Sorry, no more drawings for now, I\'m busy-busy. :)

- Edit -

To Kintall: Thank you! You\'re very observative, human positioning and poses are indeed one of my weak areas. I should study more pictures and photos from real world situations to get better feeling for imagining a human body and it\'s reaches, limitations and balance. Right now, many of my human characters are just standing there with blank expression.
Title:
Post by: Kintall on June 22, 2005, 04:28:45 pm
wow, lovely stuff

the ideas are wonderful and original too, and from all the things you include its good to see theres someone who can see the larger picture. one that encompasses not just the hero and his blade, but to the world around the story and the richness of the setting.

so many artists and creative workers get sort of tunnel vision, much like myself and they see only the focal points. but when thinking from a production standpoint you really do have to think of everything from the potion bottles to the small things growing on the trees

and your scetches, even on thier own merit aside form the subject matter are spectacular. If I had to note a flaw what small there is is you may want to work more on your posing of human figures the composition is very good and your spacial sense is great but if the pose seems unnatural it cn really throw back the realism of a work. this is only a very small observation mind you one that I am sure will correct itself with or without it being noted by others.  Once again... brilliant stuff and a sure sign of a very far reaching creative mind

I did further tests with openCanvas and...
(I don\'t have my tablet with me right now, so this was a mouse job.)

Story:
I usually don\'t bring misterZ here, but he promised to be nice. And he usually is when he gets to hold his crystal. Don\'t make fun of his hat though, he likes it very much. MisterZ is a grim giant. He\'s pretty civilized for one of his species, and likes \"beautiful things\" as he himself puts it.

MisterZ steps up and explains: \"I mister Zee. Me like beautifull thing. Me also like miss Zee. But not see miss Zee awile. One time me walk in forest an see big flashy lighty thing, very beautiful. Me think: me take big beautiful to miss Zee, then she like me. But big beautiful strange and make mister Zee fall! When I wake, I in here place. Here many beautiful red rock, but no miss Zee. But miss Zee big girl, she take care herself.\"

Apparently he had stumbled into a magic portal, that had another end in Yliakum sky. Afterwards he has grown quite fond of ruby crystals.

Also with oC:

Thats the truth, you seem to be th only one left contributing to planeshift graphically which is the main part of PS that I love. So thank you for your dedication, I wish I could help; unfortunately, my armor concepts, if even used, would be on the bottom of the priority list for the devs I would think. I\'m pretty impressed by the use of your mouse as well. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Hello again

Thanks DivineLight and Gentar, though I think we should thank the great artists who came before me. With Moogie gone I guess I am one of the senior 2d/3d artists now. Not the only one though, don\'t forget Inca, Nanaki and Ghrynn. Currently it\'s more important to get them bugs fixed, so there\'s no desperate need for new models. However, we can always make something ready for the future.

Hmm, what\'s a post without a picture... :)

Fiction:
On the second level of Yliakum, a small village of Kepk is being threatened by a vicious band of marauders. The leader of the marauders is a big brute, well know for his atrocities. Unsuspecting villagers have already left to the grain fields for work, and only few women and children remain at their homes... however, there is someone else too...

Title:
Post by: Cherppow on January 23, 2006, 08:58:40 pm
Hi again and thanks for the comments.

I have many secrets ;) but they don\'t have anything to do with my drawings. Hmm, few tricks that I do use:

Zoom:
Zooming in when drawings helps acquire smoother lines. Especially nice when working with mouse. Must check the big picture once in a while, to be sure everything fits together.

Resize:
When the image is finished, shrinking it a bit can give a nice touch. Just like antialiasing in 3d games. Also makes the file size smaller for web uploads.

Layers:
Nice especially when colouring or dealing with transparency. I like to use multiply for colours and overlay for highlights and bumpmaps.

Eraser:
Drawing with computer, you can erase a million times and the paper never breaks. :) Undo & Redo are in frequent use too. Sometimes I also use move, if a line is nice, but just in wrong place.

Last but not least:
Everybody to the Limit

*edits*

Here\'s how I imagined the the diaboli female:
1. Original
2. Added gaussian blur with radius 1 to smooth the lines a bit.
3. Added multiply layer and coloured.
4. Added overlay layer and touched up few spots.

Just my opinions. Thanks for reading.

Thanks Kintall. I always thought I suck at colouring. :) Basically it comes down to adding a layer for colour and another for highlights. Maybe I can be caught in a oC session sometimes... but generally I\'m too shy for that. :)

Indeed, I switched to XP this christmas, and haven\'t yet found working drivers for my tablet. :I All drawings since have been mouse only. I occasionally miss the close/maximize buttons too, but rather because of lack of concentration than because of mouse. When fully engaged, I can write quite readable text with mouse. Some may even recognize my handwriting. Still it\'s not as speedy as it would be with a pencil.

Another thing I like in a mouse is the wheel. I currently have zoom assigned to mouse wheel, while shift+wheel controls brush size, ctrl+wheel brush opacity and alt+wheel brush hardness. Wheel drag is assigned to move view. (If somebody knows how to change the RMB functionality in Gimp, I\'d be grateful to know.)

Here is also the above pic as an openCanvas event file (http://users.tkk.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/cpow_plains.wpe) (415kb). It may give a better view of my colouring style for those interested. My first event file ever, so please be gentle.

To JellyWerker: Greetings! You can use it as you wish, as long as you don\'t sell it. :) Very polite of you to ask. Unfortunately that is the working resolution, so I don\'t have a bigger version. I had Win98 before, but it was getting old. Began to have compatibility issues with new hardware, such as cellphones. Thus moved on to XP.

Wolltip moose -
I imagined it as peaceful herbivore, trekking the plains of Yliakum in small herds. It\'s main nutrition would be grass and leaves, but it also likes certain roots and mushrooms. They would most likely be quite shy and flee at any sight of possible danger.

That\'s pretty cool, mind if it becomes my next background?

Also, may I ask why you switched to xp?

Oh come now we are not that bad. They do say though that people are afraid of what they don\'t understand. Well I think that is the case for men. :P

Aww. *pats zorbels on the shoulder* You\'re correct of course, girls are all right. It\'s rather my character who is still a bit unaccustomed.

Girls ARE scary sometimes...
I\'ve talked to some girls once, and I make a very innocent remark, nothing offensive... and then they shoot me a look that looks like they\'re about to kill me....

What I\'m scared about the most is those girls who plot and lead you into traps, and then they have you cornered like an animal waiting for the slaughter....

BUT I have known some nice girls... and I talk to them alot, and we become good friends, but I think some of my fellow men are immature because they start, uh... you know...(jeff has a girlfriend! *friends point and laugh at me)

WELL
What I think to be the most dangerous thing about knowing girls, is a problem caused by the combination of your guy-friends and girl-friends, is that they ALWAYS seem to want you to choose between one or the other. Its either you hang out with your gilr-friends, or your guy-friends.

Why can\'t guys and girls intermingle in friendships?

PS: don\'t hate me

Greetings!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

To Mystickeeper:

I\'m no Dr. Phil, but here\'s what I think.

>>Girls ARE scary sometimes...
>>I\'ve talked to some girls once, and I make a very innocent remark, nothing offensive...
>>and then they shoot me a look that looks like they\'re about to kill me....
-Be decent, be sincere. Look into her eyes and smile. I doubt they can get angry if you tell them things like \"why, you\'re looking fine today\". If they do, it\'s more of their shame than yours.

>>What I\'m scared about the most is those girls who plot and lead you into traps, and then they
>>have you cornered like an animal waiting for the slaughter....
-Aye, there are those in both gender who, for one reason or another, seek to exploit others. No better time than today to learn to say \"no\". Most of all, know what you want... and what you don\'t. A man undecided is easy to lure, a man decided quite impossible.

>>BUT I have known some nice girls... and I talk to them alot, and we become good friends, but I
>>think some of my fellow men are immature because they start, uh... you know...(jeff has a
>>girlfriend! *friends point and laugh at me)
-Let them laugh or laugh with them, they\'ll grow out of it in a few years. Plus, it\'s healthy to be able to laugh at yourself.

>>WELL
>>What I think to be the most dangerous thing about knowing girls, is a problem caused by the
>>combination of your guy-friends and girl-friends, is that they ALWAYS seem to want you to choose
>>between one or the other. Its either you hang out with your gilr-friends, or your guy-friends.
-Ah, the time issue. First you have all the time in the world, and then quite suddenly none. ;) If you\'ve found a girl who you love, be with her. If you\'re talking about classmates and sports pals, think up a compromise. It\'s up to you to decide, but I can tell you this: A true friend welcomes you even if you were away for years.

>>Why can\'t guys and girls intermingle in friendships?
-Oh, but they can, like brothers and sisters. Just make it perfectly clear that you will never be anything else. :)

Enough of what I think, here\'s what I drew:
The map of PlaneShift... forums?! Another strange inspiration of mine.

Happy Valentine\'s Day everyone!

To JellyWerker: Ah, yes. As wikipedia tells...
A white flag is an international sign of either surrender, or truce, that is, it is a sign of peaceful intent, typically at time of war. In Buddhist countries, white is the colour of mourning.

wauw cherppow, you are really good!
well i have 1 thing to notice: if planeshift is such a big cave, WOULD YOU SEE THE OTHER SIDE? (this is no flame)

what do you think?

Hi.

Hmm, a good point. If we can trust a certain library, the first level of the stalactite is 50km in diameter, with the 1st level floor being 10km. This leaves the hole to be ~30km in diameter. There are no mentions of the floor being arched.

Can one see over 30km with bare eyes? Sure can; we have no problem seeing the moon 384 403 kilometers away. However, without knowing the lighting and atmosperic details inside the stalactite, it\'s quite impossible to answer anything but \"it\'s possible in theory\". ;) Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the tips Kintall. Also thanks for your concern, I\'ll be all right. Days like that just make one a bit emotional. :) Interesting note about the bg being unfocused. It\'s pretty natural for real life photos and human eyesight too, but I\'ve seldom seen it used in computer graphics. Did a fast try blurring the farthest areas:
Certainly moves the viewer\'s attention more towards the focused area.

Here\'s also the combination of layers used in my other Valentine\'s Day pic:
1. Ink
2. Ink+shades
3. Ink+shades+color
Didn\'t use highlights this time, resulting in more matt look.

thats a lovely pic, the care for lighting is also well used, they highlight the figure really well (the long sweeping shadow of him and his standard), I especially like the scale used in the pic, its often daunting trying to get across the sense of such a large distance, I remember one artist who used a progressive blur effect to get across smaller distances (like camera focus distance) in more action shots but even then..

and I\"m very sad to hear you\'re lonely on valentines day, I say go to art school show off your skills and see if you can find a talented young artist to share some time with ^^...youl have a common interest, you can woo her with you \"m4d sk117z\"... its almost TOO easy

as far as the distances go, on a clear day you could probaby see clear across, I know you can see the ocean sometimes from a place near where I live and thats about 30k offshore

anyways, great pics. do keep them up^^

Hello again

Here\'s a description I tried to come up for Cherppow:

Race: Ylian male
Age: ~20
Occupation: Helps at father\'s smithy

Hair: Brown, short. Brown beard.
Body: Medium build. ~180cm. Sturdy arms and soulders.

Personality: Silent, shy, obedient, still searching himself.

Economy: Quite poor, but the smithy provides enough to keep bread on the table. No jewerly, just plain common clothes.

Education: Can do basic math, read and write. Doesn\'t know about magic and other fancy stuff. Learned some farming skills at his earlier home, and now learning smithing.

History: Moved to Hydlaa outskirts roughly an year ago with his parents. Grew up farther away in the countryside. Isn\'t yet used to the big city and masses of people.

He\'s also had few strange dreams of an armoured character wearing a horned helm.

And also...
\"Mediocre.\" - Armoured character

Plus a gobble home.
He has laid a trap for you with this delicious carrot. Meanwhile he pretends to be a bird. Piu piu! For his convenience he does this all in the vincinity of his own front door. ;) (MS Paint)

I could have sworn it was a bird... :(

Oooo sexy piccy (the huuuge bloke with the penchant for cheap accupuncture, not the gobble which is cool too but for different reasons ^^)

and the defocused areas on the bloke with the standard really do draw attention to him, I was talking to a mate of mine that used to do fantasy book-covers and he said that for some of them he even used photoshops other maps to make an intensity  or saturation map to help draw attention to certain areas as well, though that was mainly for figures and monsters and whatnot,
lol and just because youre a judge doesnt mean you cant enter a more serious gobble home pic, you cant really win fairly but no one said you couldnt enter the competition^^
hell, I\'m not planning to win and I still entered :P

and that progressively completed pic I found most interesting, I hadnt ever thought of doing the shading before the colouring, but it would be useful I can see.. hmm must try at some point

anyways, make more shiny dingies^^

I\'m sorry Under the moon, but it\'s time. It\'s been long since I posted any real pencil drawings and it\'s been long since I was a fan. There will be other threads, other artists.

>And how did you find my tree?
By accident. Somebody might call it destiny. :)

>If you close this thread, I shall be coming to Finland to trounce you.
Well, I don\'t exactly have the power to close it, but I doubt I\'ll be posting here anymore.

*end edit*

With that said, I think it\'s time to lay this old thread to rest. Thanks for reading everyone.
