Title: Why SpoonScape is wrong for you
Post by: RussianVodka on July 19, 2004, 02:51:20 pm
Seeing as i got my new vid. card, i wanted to check out if the amount of lag in the-game-that-shall-not-be-named was due to my old vid. card, or to the games crapy design (im a DSLer).

When i first got to their site, i saw a link that said \"Why R***S**** is right for you?\". So, remembering that the last time i played the game (over a year ago) that i was cursing the devs for those precious hours of my life that were wasted on that [insert dirty word here]. So i decided to see what the fuss was about, and why this game was said to be so great. And i was shocked to find out the amount bull poop that was on that site.

So, here is why i think SpoonScape is wrong for you:

Why Spoonscape is wrong for you: (http://www.runescape.com/)

Why should you choose RuneScape as your number one online multiplayer game?

The answer is simple - it\'s accessible to ALL!

RuneScape is accessible to nearly everyone using the Internet.
Using a 56k modem/phone line it takes less than 5 minutes to fully download the game and start playing!

Minimum system requirements are 64mb ram. Works on Windows, Mac and Linux!

Well, in the first statement i realy cant argue with what they say, mostly because they use the magical word \"nearly\" and the magical word \"minimum\". But dont worry, seeing how that game laged with my DSL conection and my 512mb of RAM, if you have those \"minimum\" system requirments... you are\'nt going no-where.

Easy to get started

Upon signing up for an account, there is a short (and fun!) tutorial to complete which takes you through the basics of the game. After that you will be let loose in the world of RuneScape amongst thousands of players!

Short? And Fun?
I was siting there for about an hour not doing anything, just listining to those dim whited NPCs giving me a vivid description on how to use a click-&-wait combat system. And where are the thousands of players that you promiced me? I see only about 400-500 on my server? Plus more than half of them are acting like complete b*tches.

Free to play

Our free servers give you unlimited play! There is no limit to how long you can keep using the free version for, and there\'s hours and hours of things to do! So even if you\'re short on cash you won\'t be left out.

Yes, the game is free to play for those who are short on cash, but dont expect to get anything special. Most areas of the map are closed off unless you can pay, and unless you have a payed for account i believe you are also restricted to the level of some of your skills...

And as far as \"hours of fun\", here is what SpoonScape was like for me:
first 4 hours: completing quests until the \"free\" ones were eather done, or to boring to continue.
next 2 hours: being very very bored with the game and with my lvl17 char.
next 1 hour: quiting the game and looking for another free MMORPG to play.
1-2 hours later: I FOUND PLANESHIFT! and i have been here for about a year now!

Well, like i said, you want anything good, go pay! And as far as costing less than their competators, i dare them to explain to me how they cost less than planeshift?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, its because of the-game-that-shall-not-be-named that i found Plane Shift, so i guess that there is a good thing about it...

No, your completely correct. However the game itself right now is better than MB, isn\'t it.
Once CB comes out there shall be no question about which is the better. Hopefully.

Lol...\"Accessible to nearly everyone on the internet!\"

That alone scares me. The internet is full of idiots and a free game draws them like flies...Oh crap. I don\'t think I want to play CB any more -_-

RussianVodka I agree with you also completely but the lag thing? I dunno, I use a 56k and I don\'t get much lag.
But other than that you are right the game blows. Although I do play it for once in a every month or so for like 3 minutes until I realize how boring it is.

Well, who can blame you. One has to play something exciting before CB comes out.
Seriously, come out CB, come out.

Seriously, if you ever get the temptation to play that game, pick up a good fps.  It isn\'t a complete waste of time, in fact, it could help you get a job with the army. :P

You\'re right. I don\'t wanna be in the army though.

Games like Runescape, you play, but soon you realize why you keep leaving it over and over again. CB isn\'t out yet, and I hope that it doesn\'t have that attribute that runescape had, which just made you leave it after a three-four days of playing it, max.

That is so incredibly untrue. I have far more fun in Molecular Blue than is possible in Runescape. MB is a fun game, whether you can do anything or not. Runescape\'s only advantage is less lag, as far as I\'m concerned.

How do you have any fun in Runescape? Limited fun is better than no fun.

Actually, yelling at beggars is pretty fun. But MB is still better.

Everything you said was right on (exept for the lag, I\'m on 28K and have no trouble with lag). When ever I\'m online and I\'m bored I fire up my other comp and start playing Battlefiled 1942, or start up my PSone and play SO2, cause SpoonScape is\'nt worth a plug nickle.

BF:VIETNAM Owns!!!

*ahem*

Spoonscrape is currently better in a technical sense, but all the players there are annoying 12-year-olds.  This detracts so much from the game that it becomes an unrecognizable piece of.....

PS: I was annoying when I was 12 too, but I wasn\'t a jerk like most are now.  Just ask the relicnews forums mods, there\'s a 3% chance they\'ll remember \"Dr. Dude\". :P

*walks up to the podium*

Hello my name is DepthBlade aka. Marc and I am a C00nScape addict. I realized it only when I joined PlaneShift and was informed that it was a addicting evil drug that is the scum of internet communities! I have been C00nScape free for 2 months 2weeks and five days 1 hr...20mins...42-43 seconds! When ever I have the urge to play I remeber all the flaming I received when standing to its defense!

If you have Kazaa running in the background, you are gonna lag no matter how fast a connection you have. Im suspecting thats Klyaksa\'s problem...

But uh, runescape had held my attention for quite a while way back when. It was only after completing every quest including the Green Dragon Quest and raising all my skills over lv 50 that I realized that it was stupid. How long does it take to level when your 60+ like I was, you could sit in one spot for days...clicking...clicking...clicking untill you finally got another level. Not only that, but the game has many other problems with it. Such as combat has no purpose. You could make more in 10 min. of mining than you could killing 50 lesser demons. WTH?

I guess the only time I actually had real fun was when I was PKing and all the little noobs screamed Stop! Stop! before you killed them. Then on the private chat, they demand you give back their little bronze pickaxe that they lost. Ah.... that was kinda fun...

It really is fun toying with the noobs in that game. I started last april and came here when it started taking a couple days to raise smithing (hiting rocks for hours is not the most exciting thing to do) I sometimes go back when im really bored to crush the spirits of beggars (now thats where the real fun is :D )

Oh, so that\'s why you damned high levels do that. For fun. I am utterly disgusted.(Pssst. What lvl do i have to be to join the meaness to noobs. LOL.

bah! I played that game for over a year with all the free skills over level 50. The only thing that kept my interest was the fact that my friends played it and we would go out adventuring together.
Then I realised how much of my life I had just wasted. So I remembered one of my friends from America telling me about a game called Tibia, I had lost contact with her a few months before hand though :(. So I played Tibia and was impressed with how much better than runescape the community was and all those little features that made the game more fun. But then I hit level 14 I think and then lost interest as there wasnt that much to do anymore.
Then I was told about a game called Puzzle Pirates that was in beta so I got addicted to that untill you had to pay to play X(
Then I went back to playing Unreal Tournament 1 and got too good and was able to get headshots on the other side of anylevel without walls in the way without zooming in even if the enemy was pulling off fancy dodging manuvours.
Then I got Jedi Academy as soon as it came out and played that heeps untill I got Morrowind then I played that heeps.
Then I came across PlaneShift on accident (dont ask) and I had found that best game ever! Then it stopped working so then I played Unreal Tournament 2004 :P

Yeah, i played the-game-that-shall-not-be-named too and i would just like to add that it was incredibly imbalanced, you only had a chance in the wilderness if you were very high at strenght and very low in everything else.

Here\'s a real PlaneShift convert for you.

I came here from a years-long addiction to Avalon (http://www.avalon-rpg.com/).

Avalon is massively multiplayer, yes.
It\'s a text MUD, though, because it\'s so big it can\'t sustain graphics.
Price tag: $24/mo.

Why play? Well, back in the day it was a really good community with a lot of role-playing and the most exhilirating PvP I\'ve ever encountered (still).

But now? Cheating, politics, and over-immersion make Avalon as stressful as having a second real life. It\'s freaking ridiculous. People have lost their jobs, left their families, gone bankrupt, and even committed suicide over the game.

But I\'m OK, cos I found you guys!  :D

(sniffle, thanks you guys...  ;(  :P )

meh if you play it you play it, if you enjoy it you enjoy it...there is no shame in it and if it is so bad that the name of the game is censored from this forum! Why is it you people continually bring it up, just shut up already about it...this topic is getting annoying!!!

WOW thats just sad :(

Playing runescape for one hour is worse for you than smoking 48547368335763060 packs or ciggarets a day.
