Title: What browser do you call home?
Post by: Cyrandir on July 23, 2004, 07:48:12 pm
What internet browser do you guys use?  I\'m interested because I want to know what browser I should work on optimal compatibility for when building my guild website, etc.  I\'m personally a firefox fan.

Most people use Intenet explorer (including me), so that is propably the one you should focus on, but Mozilla is also a pretty good one, so you should make it compitable for that too. Netscape is another one that is used mostly by mac-users, so you should include that as well.

Opera, of course. And stuff is compatible with everything, you have to change things to make it work in the old-crappy-embbeded IE, not the other way around.

Safari, which I believe uses the KHTML (Konqueror) rendering engine.  I use IE at work, and occasionally a Mozilla variant at home.

I\'m just sayin, some graphics etc render differently.  And there\'s some active script compatibility issuses, esp with SP2 on the way...

Yes, cause M$ doesn\'t care about accepted standards...

I used Konqueror for net occasionally too, until i someday broke the html interpreter somehow. :S

Mozilla Mozilla Mozilla.
Unless I am checking for compatibility issues or things like that at work then I use IE.

Mozilla here, I was going to completely remove IE from my computer but then I found out Microsoft will nuke my computer from orbit if I do.

Elkindel: You forget that you still have to fire up IE to do windows update.  Unless you auto-update, I guess...  I prefer to manually update.  And technically IE and the explorer shell are the same thing, so unless you\'ve replaced your shell (like me) you\'re still using it.... but who am i to quibble over technicalities? ;)

I use Firefox for daily browsing. The browsers to check are generally IE 5.5+, Mozilla/Gecko, Safari, and I think you will be fine. Even if you use a Mozilla-based browser, ALWAYS check in IE or you will be getting complaints from >90% of the internet population. A good reference for web statistics is http://thecounter.com/stats/

I  do use firefox for browsing, but for making webpages i would suggest mozilla because it have a real javascript debugger, and a webpage editor wich isn t that great but allow to check the placement of tables and stuff.

But if you are on windows and are making webpages i would hightly suggest to install opera too , and regulary check compatibility with opera/mozilla/IE, if you can give a try to lynx,  just to realize than things like forums are completely unbrowsables for some peoples ( lynx is a text only browser, so blind guys use it)

I\'ve tried Mozilla, Firefox, Opera and other browsers but didn\'t care for any of them. I use Avant and it\'s much better than those other browsers.

Weblite 0.1...
IE sucks, Mozilla is too filled (yo, it has even a kitchensink!) and i\'m just not comfort with opera.

BTW, you can\'t get Weblite anywhere because it\'s not released (I coded it, and I\'m to lazy to upload anything before I get my DSL). If someone wants it, for some reason, just PM me.

Firefox. Period.

IE is prone to so much spy/adware is scary.

Not to mention that it\'s coded in C which is the most poorly written language out there.

Hurrah for Python! Hurrah for Perl!

C is still a tried and true workhorse!

IE is \'t3h sux\'.

I use Safari on my iBook.

I use FireFox on my \'big desktop\'.

I use dillo when I am disgruntled with FireFox.

I use lynx when viewing my website from a computer that doesn\'t have the changes I made cached already, which usually is a remote machine.

I use Konqueror while running Knoppix.

I use IE when dragged kicking and screaming.
