Title: Fox - Kyuubi: Nine Tails (A Daemon Fox) Model:
Post by: Zeraph on July 24, 2004, 01:27:46 am

This is a picture of my Miniature Pet Nine Tails coughing up a fireball in the kitchen I took yesterday :D?

I finished the model, except for a little tweaking I need to do, unfortunately my texture makes it look more like a wolf then a fox I think. The Tail has a transparency Alpha Map to look bushier?

Polycount: 404Tri(Max Faces) with 1 tail | Body=362 / 1Tail=42 | (740 for the Nine Tails)

Even though I am still perfecting the texture & UVMap I rigged it & made a simple walking animation you can see below (Flash Movie):
 (http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Zeraph/Animals/FoX/NineTailsWalkSplit.jpg) (http://www.geocities.com/zeraphsimagehost/SwF/?FoxNineTailsWalkSplit.swf)
http://www.geocities.com/zeraphsimagehost/SwF/?FoxNineTailsWalkSplit.swf

Unfortunately I am running into allot of difficulty exporting the mesh to Cal3D. 3DsMax6 always crashes when I try to export the Mesh & I can?t yet find out why? When I try to export sprite it keeps saying ?Unknown Property: ?maps? is undefined? in line: (indx = tokenize image \"\\\\\"). Anyone know how to fix it?

Looks cool, are you planning to make more animations of it, or perhaps make another model?

And btw, Ninetails sounds really familiar...did you get an idea from pokemon? LoL, it seems really coincidential that the pokemn \"Ninetails\" has Nine tails, which are fluffy, is \"dog/wolf-like\", and is fire based. Don\'t mean to be mean, but I\'m just wondering.

Your work is nice though.

Nine Tails is from an anime called Naruto.  Here\'s a pic from the anime:

Pretty neat though Zeraph,  although I\'d have to agree with your conclusion, it looks a lot like a wolf.   You might want to try making the ears longer/pointier and make the tails less symmetric about the back.  Nice start though :)

I got the idea from Naruto, but I sort of wanted to make a real-looking fox first & then texture & modify it to look more like this (but that is farther down the road):
Of course I know it will be hard to keep a balance between looking like the anime & real-life but I want it to look like it fits in PS.

Maybe so I don?t breach any copyrights with pokemon, I should call it a ?7 or 5Tails? & that will reduce the polycount too? maybe I should just call this one a wolf & then tweak & texture it for a fox that is on fire? Fur is always hard.... 8)

I was thinking of having different models for different & more powerful Fox sort of influenced by what way they fallow, like a \"flying fox\" with some winged tails could be azure way or something sort of like that...

I think I forgot to add teeth, but that probably wouldn?t make it more fox-like,
Anyone have a clue on why it will not export to Cal3D? it is really annoying me? X(

:D I suspect that ?Nine Tails? is some sort of Japanese Demon that is @ least little well known from Japanese Myth or something like that, I am not an expert on this or anything that is just sort of what I suspect? Unless Naruto actually got the idea from Pokemon which I doubt it, wouldn?t that be a breach of copyright? Anyway... I do not want to make it look like that style of anime, I like the Naruto stile, but If I could make it look like it was on fire & belongs in ps I would be very happy! That pokemon is not on fire but it does use fire attacks & such? btw: I doen?t want it to look like a Volpix ether or whatever the lesser form is called?

Sigh...

Fox Spirits, can trancend into many different forms depending on their age:

At the age of 50 a fox can turn into a woman, at the age of 100, it can turn into a sorcerer/wizard a beautiful girl or a seductive man. When it reaches 1000 it gains the ability to commnuicate with heaven, and becomes a \"celestial fox\" or nine-tailed fox.

A \"celestial fox\" is sometimes called a \"nine-tailed fox,\" because it has just such a number of tails. The nine-tailed fox appears in myths from all over Asia. In Vietnam, a battle between the mythic founder of the Vietnamese people, Lac Long, and a nine-tailed fox led to the creation of West Lake in Hanoi, originally called the \"Sea of the Fox\'s Body.\" In Korea, the celestial fox, or Goo Mi Ho, is often of a more vicious complexion, as the fox would first horribly kill someone and eat them in order to take their form. And in Japan, the fox spirit or kitsune arrived from China during the T\'ang Dyansty (there is even a Japanese legend explaining that it flew over), where it joined the native tanuki (a shape-changing badger), and became an integral part of the national folklore. It continued to develop in its own style, until the kitsune was in many ways distinct from its original Chinese descendants. Kabuki plays, Bunraku puppet theater, and Ukiyo-e woodblock prints all feature the celestial fox in one guise or another.

*Edit: Ah, I forgot to mention that there was a particular wood-cut (form of art) that told the story of a nine-tailed fox suducing an emperor as a beautiful woman. Exactly who I\'m too lazy to remember right now ;)

(I was going to write all of this in my own words, but I got lazy at the second paragraph :P)
Title: Thanks Harwen,

I suspected something like that? (need to read more Asian folklore). Anyway.. This would be cool to be able to have a pet fox & it would change like this over time & experience?.

But of course that would be like one of though familiars but we would need to have a couple of other things like it for balance reasons & people who do not want familiars?

I was thinking of some of this stuff would be fun to have in summoning, like you start out summoning a Fox & then later when you get really good @ it, you can summon a \"celestial fox\" & so on?

Why copy when you can create something of your own?

Or is everything you think already made?

Perhaps you should give #crystalspace @ irc.freenode.net a chance?

It\'s a nice model, although it\'s not really fox-like.
IMO it should be skinnier, especially on the waist. Foxes are carnivores, carnivores have a shorter digestive system than herbivores (has to do with some of the properties of plant cells, don\'t know the name in english). Therefore herbivores have big waistes (think cow), but carnivores are very skinny at their wastes (think dog, or fox).
Furthermore, it lacks a neck. Foxes arent that solid and muscular. Maybe the legs could be a bit longer as well, but I\'m not sure on that.

So all in all I think it should be skinnier at some points. If you try this, please post the results.

I love the tail...

IMO, you should put the eyes more in the front of the face and not on the sides.
Also don\'t forget white hairs below the body.
