Title: PS evolving graphic wise
Post by: WiseKran on July 30, 2004, 09:08:53 pm
we all know that the game industy keeps improving by way of graphics and vid-cards and stuff...

so if planeshift is gunna be around for awhile.. like everyone says... than will they eventually move to a new renderer and better graphics?

for now i beleive the graphics are far more than sufficient... in fact they are incredible

but im talkin a a few years or so..

also ive noticed that the hills an stuff outside the city are sharp and angular and rather blocky...
whenever we are realeased from the citie and the gates are open will the landscapes be smoother??

The next release will use the new renderer architecture of Crystal Space. This is a radically new way to do 3D graphics in Crystal Space itself which allows advanced uses of shaders, bumpmapping, stencil shadows, and more. However! Planeshift will use this new technology but at this moment it doesn\'t really use much of the new stuff already (except for a few things here and there). I think that this will be something that  we will focus on after the CB release. So you can certainly expect more in this area in the future.

Greetings,

I have a feeling they have begun internal testing! It\'s just a feeling. But a strong one! :D

My question when they get planeshift using all of crystals spaces features. really how much better can graphics really get?  cause on some of the shots they renderd i mean there stunning. my thoughts are when the game reaches that point what else really needs done. hasn\'t technology reached a point where creators can make a game look exacly how they imagined it. minus acually putting you in the game.

which i\'m shure in 10 years some one will be able to :))

We can go a lot further (and will after CB). For example, we still don\'t have the following graphical features (and not in CB either):

And I guess that we\'ll be able to do much more too. So we still got work to do :-)

Or you could download the CVS, make your own test server and start debugging ;)

speaking of audio what will the music be like in the nest release? The music in the current one is fine but I\'m looking forward to some better stuff. And will music be different for alot of areas or will dungeons have the same music and fields have the same music and towns have the same music? Oh and will there be ambience tracks as well. (Birds singing, rain fall sounds, villagers talking, etc.).  And also I was wonderign if in the future you\'d be adding voice acting to the NPCs and have the characters make grunts and warcries (A feature I love about Lineage two)? Sorry I\'m obessed with sound :P

Ambience sound features such as 3D sound and a lot, if not all sounds have already been made. There will be plenty of new music pieces, one for every situation, and there will even be footsteps when you run around. Not simply a \"I\'m walking with highheeled shoes all the time\" footstep sound, no it\'s diffrent sounds when you\'re running on sand and so on. There will also be birds like you said, and water sounds, and so on. :)

So I can easily say there will be plenty of new features in the sound area of CB, compared to what is in MB.

Often there is sand near a river or beach, and I\'m sure you can find rubbles around somewhere. Walking in a cave usually doesn\'t sound like walking with high heels either. :)

What about walking in high heels in a cave? By definition, that *must* sound like walking in high heels!

Sounds like CB is shaping up to be one neat upgrade :)

Whoops, looks like I wasn\'t thinking at all!  I was thinking how there aren\'t going to be oceans in Yliakum (right?) so where would the sand be?  Forgot about deserts and rivers :).

One ocean to rule them all

The 8:th and half the 7:th level is water filled, remember?

What I\'d really like to know is if it will ever be possible to have face changes. You know, without causing everyone\'s FPS to crawl down to 0.025 ^^

At last! no more high heel walking sounds!
I really hate the sound of high heels, I also hope that the footstep sounds arnt over exajurated (sp?) where walking on sand gives just as loud as jumping from ten metres up onto a wooden floor
