Post by: FredrikH on August 01, 2004, 03:04:30 pm
just finished the uvs and did a quick rig for it

heres 2 pics for size
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/02.jpg)

Fhinias: try Deep Exploration (http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/) its quite good for viewing models when skinning as it reloads the skin if the file has been changed

and heres the model+skinbase im probably gonna do a skin myself if i get the time for it
sandworm_sdk.zip (http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/sandworm_sdk.zip)

and my bet on killing one of these is some oversized catapults or balistas :D

Post by: Jadd on August 01, 2004, 03:56:45 pm
Holy crap! that thing is HUGE! If I saw one of these things I certainly wouldn\'t stay for a chit-chat. It would be awesome to see monsters of this size in game. 8)

Ehm...I would hate to meet the bird that can take on this worm...
Title: Um WoW:
Post by: Zeraph on August 01, 2004, 04:26:39 pm
I think it eats Ostriches as snacks lol!
That is Extremely Big! I think it must have gotten fed to much! Were would you find something like that in PS deep in the stone labyrinths or in the middle of a Desert?
Maybe it lived near town, & kept gobbling up every newb to walk out the gate. :D
I haven?t seen anything this big in a game & would really like to go find it, maybe it lives in a cavern in the desert were little animals are that are valuable, so you are looking on the floor trying to catch these little things & do not notice this thing staring down @ you from above & ?Ack!! *Chomp*? lol! :]
Title:
Post by: Fhinias on August 01, 2004, 04:33:45 pm
WOW!!! is to big, perfect for keeping people away from their feeding grounds....great model...((and about deep exploration....theres a lot of products and tools, but for skin viewing is the main program enouth?))

Can you say Sleeper? (Anyone from Evercrack would know what Savion means).
Title:
Post by: Skizzik on August 02, 2004, 11:50:59 pm
OMFG that thing is huge! RUN, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Title:
Post by: sashok on August 03, 2004, 05:42:22 am
Awesome model!  Give it some kind of disgusting
texture, something resembling of dark slimy worm..
Also draw a lot of little teeth inside the mouth hole,
something resembling like sharks teeth and dark
throat hole and you are all set.
Title:
Post by: smoak on August 03, 2004, 05:48:24 am
man that thing really is big and to add to sashoks maybe make it drool or scars from past meals trying to defend themselves. honestly if they do put worms in this game i hope they arent all like that. anyone here play \"magic the gathering\"? i want to see more of those wurms
Title:
Post by: Saphire on August 03, 2004, 08:57:13 am
Holy jesus! 8o

Just...
Just wow... 8o

Running wouldn\'t do you any good because it\'d just dig under you and gobble you up... You\'d need to fly away. Must remember to be a flying race...
Title:
Post by: Abemore on August 03, 2004, 11:32:35 am
From the first picture, I assumed it was small, but could jump at your face with a frightening quickness.

Now with the size comparison pics, it looks like something you\'d see on some desert planet in a starwars movie.

Great work as always Fredrik

Post by: Zeraph on August 03, 2004, 07:31:44 pm
Couldn?t something like that pick you right out of the Air? I doen?t think we will be able to sustain flight that high, but it would be fun to be an very skilled Animal Trainer & jump on that thing?s head & hang on for dear life, I think it should move very slow, so you can dodge it?s attacks, but it you get hit you die, & it crushes armor into unusable bits Ooh!?

Btw: I never played Evercrack (to expensive).

Post by: Androgos on August 03, 2004, 09:38:26 pm
Why not try to give it a skeleton and try to export in cal3d format?

Then try to do some anims and we just might include it?
Title:
Post by: FredrikH on August 03, 2004, 09:42:45 pm
it already has a skeleton but i don\'t know if gmax will be able to export to that format :\\
but if it works with milkshape then its good to go :)
and my animations always suck but if anyone else wants to animate just tell me
*wanders off to find a exporter in my closet*
Title: Ooh! Ooh!
Post by: Zeraph on August 03, 2004, 09:46:15 pm
I was just about to ask that!
I will do it! Animating is my favorite part!
Just export it to .3Ds file (if possible) & I can do the rest!
or if you can only save it to a .max file that is fine too...  :D
Title:
Post by: FredrikH on August 03, 2004, 10:00:10 pm
great i can\'t wait to see this thing in motion :) (exept for my silly try at it)

i already had exported it to a 3ds so lucky me :)
sandworm_sdk.zip (http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/sandworm_sdk.zip)
hmmm maybe i should work on the skin first a bit and then the other skin for the rkr mod :)
this if anyone is intrested
http://rkr.ravencommunity.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1560 oh and im going by the name silverwolf overthere instead of my realname :)

[edit]
ok heres a quick start on the skin and ill continue on the body tomorrow but now i need some sleep
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/04.jpg)
and ill add some variations to the teeth but for now good night
Title: Sorry,
Post by: Zeraph on August 05, 2004, 04:20:59 pm
Didn?t see you replied, I?ll get started on it right away, maybe have something for tomorrow, but it all depends on how much time I get in on my computer today?
Title:
Post by: Zeraph on August 13, 2004, 06:51:22 pm
Oh, I just forgot about this until yesterday, so I made a open/close mouth animation & I textured the body part:
The red part is untextured,
If you could give me the skin that has the clays textured that would help allot, I am still working out the best way to rig it atm, so I can get the best animations, can you give me the skin so I can merge the two?
Title:
Post by: FredrikH on August 16, 2004, 05:57:31 pm
heres an update on my skin
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/05.jpg)
and heres the skin itself sandworm.png (http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/sandworm/sandworm.png)
im gonna continue on this later but im quite busy as im gonna move on wedensday :)
Title:
Post by: Zeraph on August 16, 2004, 07:09:19 pm
Ok, I merged the textures them really quick:
top is full Brightness, I need to blend the mouth in somewhat?

Here is the texture (in jpg):

Ever seen the \'Dune\' movies? They couldn\'t kill the worms, but this guy managed to get some stuff under it\'s plates so they used the worms as mounts instead.

While it looks cool, I\'d be remiss in not mentioning that the bend in the body is a little sharp. Looks like someone broke it in half.
Title:
Post by: Zeraph on August 21, 2004, 04:22:07 pm
I think the bend looks fine, it is just @ an odd angle...
maybe it isn\'t in perspective view...
anyway if you merge that with something like my texture 50/50 or something
& then put it though some filters to make it look more natural
I think it would look good :)
right now it looks cartoon-like but good shade area effect.... :]
Title:
Post by: Cybio Kingfist on August 21, 2004, 07:44:34 pm
They should put this in the game. It\'d be interesting to fight or just see one of those.
Title:
Post by: THAPRINZE on August 21, 2004, 08:52:54 pm
looks very very cool...allthough i\'d say that the mouth has to be a little bigger.  Can take bigger prays then :D..plus looks just scarier
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on August 22, 2004, 01:55:57 am
The mouth is gigantic already...

Zereph, I cant wait for the final texture...the mandables (or whatever they are...tusks) look great.
Title:
Post by: Zeraph on August 22, 2004, 03:46:52 am
it\'s really up to FredrikH
Title:

My My arent we a talented little duckie..

LOVELY mate!
It\'d make Frank Herbert proud

as fer the colour, that really depends on the colour of the backing, like picture it in yellow sand ye\'d want a nice contrasting colour, or if it were in red sand (we have that here in Australia, somehitng to do with large amounts of iron oxide in it) youd go for the more yellow orange colour, alternately the skin could be patterned, if nothign else it would help give it an impression of depth and shape (think striped Tshirt, or cow mottling ro tigerstripes)

Lovely model anyways, really nice

FredrikH, I like the second color better, it looks more realistic. The skin looks great ;)
Title:
Post by: THAPRINZE on August 26, 2004, 11:18:59 pm
yep..2nd looks more realistic.  And there\'s no doubt about it that those monsters just has to be killable in planeshift!!! :D
Title:
Post by: sashok on August 27, 2004, 05:31:51 am
well that\'s a success, nice model and skin Good Job
I would think it should be just a bit darker from the
second pic and slimier if that\'s possible
Title:
Post by: Quwaar on August 27, 2004, 11:33:35 am
wow that is really cool. I look very good, reminds me of tremors tho, but great work.

(you might wanne watch the size, its messing up the mapge ;) )
Title:
Post by: FredrikH on August 28, 2004, 10:29:13 am
just made my own export/import for gmax so i tried to get it into max instead and heres the result :)

it could be cool if i had the specs for the cal3d format i probably could do a exporter for that to then
Title:
Post by: THAPRINZE on August 28, 2004, 11:10:20 am
wow... You know that looks damn cool. If only it would be that big in the game.  Then allready it\'d be the coolest monster around.

THAT REALLY LOOKS DAMN COOL!  :D

I haven?t been able to do anything with 3D for a while, my 3DsMax is acting up & I am moving so I will not have my computer for maybe a weak or less, I hope I don?t miss CB!

Btw, I think it would look better if you put my sand-like texture as a partially transparent mask over yours, just to make a more realistic-looking texture, I think it looks to perfect & cartoon-like, but would be a good base for a texture to ass more detailed shadows?

Edit: wow, actually I just was able to load the picture, wow it looks good, still looks so clean, if it really lives in the sand I would think it would look more dusty, it looks like it just had a bath  :D but hey that looks excellent...

I?ll make some animations & export to Cal3D after I am unpacked, did you only modify the texture? I could use that, then if you only modified the texture then I can just continue making the animations, I wonder how it moves, like a snake in the desert, like swivel? Or how?
Title:
Post by: THAPRINZE on August 30, 2004, 11:34:48 pm
nah it definately should move like the dune ones...
jump right out from the frickin ground.

(like some weird creatures from crappy hercules series,  that moved under ground, and could only follow/sense footsteps.  \'...Walk and you would be dead.\'

just think that might be hard to do for the game-engine.  Allthough i wouldn\'t really know.
Title:
Post by: smoak on August 31, 2004, 12:35:48 am
the dune ones moved under and on the sand actually.

I can imagine all the players telling new people to go to desert for easy items just to have them taken down by a giant worm.
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on August 31, 2004, 02:34:56 am
...That, would be an awesome thing to tame and ride... Or maybe just ride.
Title:
Post by: Zeraph on August 31, 2004, 05:28:28 am
I can\'t wait for rag-doll physics, then you can have that thing grabbing ppl sending to the death realm & then flinging them into the air because they don?t want to eat anything with a death aura... :D
Title:
Post by: Cybio Kingfist on August 31, 2004, 05:53:47 am
Yeah. I want one of those for a pet.

I really like worms...Don\'t ask me why.
Title:
Post by: Syzerian on August 31, 2004, 06:33:35 am
Yeah, ride them like the Fremen :D
I agree with Zeraph, it looks way too clean, almost cartoony
