OK i was thinking of having a \"city of bandits\" where the \"black market\" was and where you could buy items you could only get from that city there could also be a special event thing there which you could only enter from the city.
This event would be 5 players fighting for their lives against rounds of enemys and the person to survive longer than the other 4 would get a prize like a weapon or tria (if this isnt a good event it can be changed)
The city would be located under the \"ground\" (as in under the main hydlaa floor with nothing showing that its there but a small hole in the ground you enter the passage to the city through
There would only be one way to enter the city and that would be by a passage coverd with traps dead end turns ect..
The entrance to the passage would be a small square hole in the ground located in the dessert or deep in a forest which would be very hard to find
To find the city you could do quests which you would get peices of a map which would lead to the city and by doing more quests you would get tips on how to avoid the traps and stuff in the passage
You could also ask random npcs about the city though you would get much less help than doing a quest
-
Good idea but then you will get uber players luring noobs down there to kill them and clear the way of obsticles. Also people will post online walkthroughs about how to get to this place.
-
Hmm people can be so crule =( (thats the people who would post the walk throughs)
what if it was if a really high lvl place with high lvl monsters so newbs couldnt go any ways
It could also require you to have a ticket to enter by doing a quest
-

call me naive, but it worked (works) pretty good for the quests of MB IMHO...i never saw one shouting out how to solve the quests or something...
the noob bashing thing sure is a prob...high lvl monsters may help, but if the high lvl player says to the newb i will help you fight your way down and bash him afterward it wont work. on the other hand: is it worth bashing a lot of high lvl monsters and risking your life just to bash a newb? well, i guess no. so it would work for most of the ppl that way :)

Hey, its already planned...its called an arena.

Heh, Chattanuga has a good point but, in the future you will get people who will do anything for a few tria.

This is against the PS license I believe. There was a post about that.
-
ok so we got a hole in the ground in a high lvl place that takes you to a passage coverd with traps which will take you to the city
now then aside from the black market what else should the city have?
-
There should be some sort of Black Market in every city really...

Yeah, like at night, where seedy merchants go out to do business in the shadows because they have bad skin. Like Zak, that\'s why he wears that mask. Well, also to look cool....

Ha, good point. I mean, every city has crime. The Black Market should be a part of every city.

Ok, let\'s say no one posts the walkthrough online, they can still make a walkthrough if Harwen idea of books becomes reality. Even thought \"Oh no, he said where it is!\" it would add a lot to roleplay
\"I got this book on the library, seems it have some clues on the whereabouts of the Hidden City\"
BlackMarket... at night in dangerous places... fun >=)
-
dint i hear sometihng about it being illegal to post public walkthroughs about ps
-
I thought that quest data was under the art liscense, making it illegal to reveal stuff about quests without express permission from the team (like that would ever happen :P) so they could sue your pants off for doing that... I don\'t think that will be something I will do :-/
It would add to the gameplay if you found a tattered old book some player had written long ago with clues to the whereabouts... And I think that if a book is deemed unacceptable for reasons pertaining to quests and such, they shouldn\'t suddenly just disappear... they should become \"moth-eaten\" so you couldn\'t read all the stuff, but youd get clues like you would have if it had been a book that was inside the regulations...

couldnt they make the moth eaten book one of the quest prize clues mentioned before?
-
Ah why do some people have to be so mean =( if noone made walkthroughs I think It would have be a cool tthing to have in the game =(
well if that doesnt work you could always have black market people come out, that would be cool too
-
Actually, I\'m not saying to post a walkthrough of a quest, I\'m actually trying to say that if there were books with clues to the whereabouts to the hidden city would add a lot to roleplay, even because according to harwen\'s idea of publishing, that material would be revised by a gm first. Who is going to say that just because the person found the place he can enter? Maybe the hidden city \"bouncers\" will only allow neutral/bad people to enter. A know hero could not enter for example, even if he knew where it was... he could try to kill the guards thought XD
-
Black markets in cities would be nice, also I would like illegal weapons/spell-books/items that NPC would confiscate or something, maybe using weapons you are not licensed to use or something. Of course these are easy to have outside city walls because they couldn?t possibly police all of the space in Yliakum?
-
Hmmmm yeah black markets in every city... Perhaps those could also be open PvP zones...
-
Well, I know that if such a dangerous are existed with public knowledge in *my* city, I\'d send in a whole squad of good guys with big swords to clear it out! :D
As long as these \'black markets\' don\'t stretch the bounds of feasibility (i.e. after midnight, suddenly everyone is selling uber swords of leetness) I think it\'s a good idea - but in general, I think criminal markets are fairly accessible as long as you\'re not a known do-gooder. I think it is best manifested as a system of referrals - you ask one merchant about a slightly shady item, and he says \"ask Jarek in the back\", you go to Jarek, he sets you up with something and drops a hint about who else to talk to if you\'re interested in other \"rare supplies\", and so on. I would think that most major black market deals happen in broad daylight on the golf course :)
-
OOC: Ha! I know a Black Market in my town. It\'s called a Flea Market... you can get everything there... from drugs to Plasma screen T.V.s no kidding.
IC: Well I think for the \"good\" path people will have to get \"uber swords of leetness\" through quests.
Whilst \"evil\" peeps will have connections like Black Markets to get \"uber swords of leetness\".
What I\'m saying is that there should be a \"good\" path to get things, and an \"evil\" path to get things.
