Having read the forums in relation to this:
1. My game locks up when I connect. It just says \"Initializing world\" but Windows says it is not responding!
This is ok. On some machines, Planeshift believes it needs to recalculate the lighting, which can take up to 2 hours the first time you run. If you let it run to completion, it will load quickly every time after that.
I left my system loading for over 3 hrs (went to watch Pitch Black downstairs, and then some stupid TV program). When I came back, it still hadnt loaded. I looked at my task manager, and the process had claimed 655,885k of memory, and was taking more as i sat there watching it. Graphic intense as the lighting process may by, 655,885k of memory!?
Have I got something wrong?

Yours is a rare case of \"the few that go beyond reason\"... as long as the game hasn\'t crashed, it will eventually load. Your setup must be relatively unusual, as I\'ve only ever heard of one other person who\'s first Initialising World took longer than two hours.
I suggest, if you have the patience to, to leave it for as long as it takes- overnight, maybe. Don\'t click anywhere, don\'t open taskman, just let it run untill it either loads or crashes. One has to happen eventually.
On the other hand, CB shouldn\'t be too far off now (how many times have I said that...) so perhaps you\'d be content to just wait for the new release. :)
Note: Talad is currently on holiday, that\'s why CB isn\'t released yet... I hope he gets bored and comes back quickly! ;)

I neglected to mention... I fiddles with settings, and used software emulation rather than opengl, and set to 800x600. It EVENTUALLY loaded. But then I couldnt move or anything. I moved about 3 paces, and then it allll locked up.

He actually left us his phone number in case we had a problem. Maybe prank call time? :)
