Title: An size estimate for CB
Post by: Typhorean on August 12, 2004, 09:22:05 pm: I\'ve got a 28.8k internet connection (pity me. -.-), so downloading things takes me *forever*. So would it be too much to ask what range of size CB is going to be? An educated guess within 20-40 megs or so would be really nice.

EDIT: I can\'t believe I wrote AN size estimate. -.-

most computers fast enuf 2 play on have cd players....
but since nobody that plays too much will want to wait very long, if u dont have a cd drive: burn a cd somewhere, either remove your hard drive and install it in a friends \'puter, or take ur equipment to their place and use a direct cable connection or lan.

Post by: orogor on August 13, 2004, 12:44:59 am: vengeance didn t liked the idee , but if i can suggest it again, it would be to put eatch sector/zone into a different package and allow peps to download only the ones wich correspond to the zone they play in ( like in guild wars ) but maybe it s too complex to code , also it depends how the maps looks like.

I live in a town where the ONLY internet connection is 28.8k. And I mean the ONLY one. Y\'know that BS they say about broadband being available everywhere? Well..it\'s...BS. xD And I know how a CD burner works. Fact is, though, all of my friends live in the same fly speck town, so it\'s the same problem. Maybe we can all d/l part of it and then combine the portions on one CD. Yeh, that\'ll probably be what\'ll happen.

Post by: Typies on August 13, 2004, 06:31:14 am: Well i have a very fast connection. but i have a limit to how much i can download so that kinda sucks. thats why i also have a 52k connection and i download things over night. oh and Download Accelerator Plus is AWSOME! instead of downloading at 100kb/s it brings it up to like 500! on my fast connection of course.

Post by: Xyl on August 13, 2004, 12:04:39 pm: I\'ve racked up over 2GB of download in a month on my crappy 56k connection :D DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) works wonders too, not only resumes, but speeds my connection up from a slow 2.3-2.5 kb/s to some of use at around 4.8-5.5kb/s.

When CB comes out, I\'m going to a mates place who has 1500 ADSL to download it. W00t!

Download Accelerator simply searches a preset number of sites for the same file and downloads bit of the file from diffrent locations, i.e making HTTP very like a P2P network

Levels alone (without model data, sounds, music, textures for GUI, code, ...) is already more then 100Megs so the estimate of 300Mb will not be far off.

Post by: Harwen on August 13, 2004, 05:54:21 pm: Hmm, for all you 56k\'ers I\'d also suggest to find an internet cafe or a university to to that at, or a friends house...That\'s what I do for my buddy, he buys himself dvd+r and cd-r sipindles, leaves them at my house, and when he wants something he mails me the link or asks me to look for it and i give it to him.

I hope you have a nice person like me in your neighborhood :D

Planeshift still isn\'t near to beta, the next release will probably be more like that...though maybe not with the updater, not sure how far that will go.

I just realized the shirt I am wearing is blue.

I love my lil\' comp too much :(, I mean, I downloaded a 900MB file last night, in less than two hours!! c\'mon man, you know that just makes you feel warm inside.... but I don\'t know, most I can recommend is, find a PS player with a CD-RW (such a myself) and PM them nicely, or look them up on AIM or MSN or Yahoo, or whatever, and maybe they\'ll be nice enough to send you a burnt copy of CB. That all I can think of, sorry pal :P

I can do that too... in Brazil. As long as people adore me like a god, built me a palace with a golf course and a bar with twisted straws and that mini-umbrellas... that, and a huge amount of money. If they accomplish this I just *might* send them the cd. Or maybe not.
Even thought it will be the size of the alpha, seems pretty good for me.

Mwaha~! I was going to label it \'an estimate size for CB\' and then realized that was totally messed up, so I backed up and put \'size\' before \'estimate\', but forgot to change \'an\' to \'a\'. Yesh.
