Thanks to the whole PS Team for the time youre investing in this game.
And if you get much bad Voices out of the community its because they love your work and can\'t get used to the tought of not playing it!
Hopefully some of you can get more out of it than amusement (e.g. Experience)!

General Discussion / Laureleis booze!
« on: October 23, 2005, 08:46:24 pm »
Well this would have been another night like thousands before. But Laurelei decided to go to the tavern and have a beer.
One thing lead to the other and she got really drunk.

She dont even managed to find the doors out the first time, and fell down to the fireplace:

But managed to get out, afterwards, not without seeming to make no more step forward after this:

Laurelei couldnt even rememember how she got there...

...but found herselve in the middle of a large group of people:

Laurelei was so embarassed with herselve that she wanted to flee as quick as she could. This idea manifested in the next second, as she saw that sweet looking harnquist had green hair now. \"I must be hallucinating\" she tought and decided to go to sleep:

I would be rather interested too. If somebody finds some Screenshots it would be cool to have them linked here.

Well I made the same proposal some days ago in the wishlist forum but as you can see in the description of it it isnt really the right place to utter wishes for the website (\"What you would like to see in the final game? Post your ideas and suggestions.\").

A forest would be, indeed, good as hell! To fasten the process of creating one I\'ve searched for an old URL I found on the topic of \"Image-Based Rendering of Vegetation in Real-Time\".
This method of rendering a tree is very simple. You have a model of an very detailed realistic tree with thousands of polygons on it. Now you make shots of this tree from different angles and you use this slices together with blending to simulate one single tree.

With that technique you can actually render a lot of good looking trees. You only have to change the first step. Instead of making one very detailed model of an tree you have to make x models. An example:
If you create two different models for each of four different tree-breeds you have already 8 completely different trees. If you mix em up, change their color a little bit and vary them in height (which is very easy because you only have to make the polygons bigger/smaller, not the slices) you have a forest that looks different from tree to tree.
Storage isn\'t that much of a problem I think, because the slices won\'t take that much space.

Edit:
Very interesting link, if youre in modelling plants .

I copied the link direct form the mainsite it refered to: http://www.planeshift.it/guide/index.html
Now its correct, the path is: http://www.planeshift.it/guide/en/index.html
there are two possible reasons for it:
a) The site was correct, but an old version taken from browser-cache
b) The site has been changed
It doesnt really matter which reason it is, at least I can go to the players guide now.
If you ask me, its more possible that my browser-cache did the trick than the Admins not linking right.

It would be better to post a reason why you have suspended a service.

I was only offering an example for why its down, I am sure they\'d have posted a reason for its being down/suspended, so I\'d say its probably crashed.

Well I think a good place for such a message would be at the website of the service that is suspended, but I dont want to say anything more about this, because some people are considering my proposals already and I think they\'ll use bits of good information to make things better.

\"Dont get High of your own Supply!\" (Scarface)
Its great for you, that you know every timezone you need, but I think that there are users that are not as much in timezones as you are, do you agree? Consider this: Youre the man who wrote the navigation system for the first moon-mission.  You wrote a program which couldn\'t actually calculate the correct time, so a astronaut has to do it all manually. This person makes a mistake and the mission fails (3 men dead).
Would you, in the next mission:
[ ] Invest 15 minutes of developement time in date calculation
[ ] Not Invest 15 minutes of developement time, so that the astronaut needs to calculate the time manually again?

Btw. Why have I alway to defend my self here if I make proposals?

Could you actually deliver a link? I cant find that one.

@acraig: Much thanks for making our life easier and all the effort youre investing in that great project.

Under Windows, the \"DirectSound\" option works quite stable for me.

Iam playing under Windows XP Pro and the \"DirectSound\" Option is red. I\'ve choosen \"Software\". Sorry for not mentioning that, I just forgot to do so.

Well actually I can see that the website has grown very dynamically. Iam able to find the information I need, as you can see in my post. But I just wanted to give some information how a user experiences the website if he is new to Planeshift. Iam not saying that you have to do the changes, because I do know that I dont have the right to do so. So take it for what it is: a suggestion on how to change things in a way that they work better. The other tought is, that you could actually lessen the work invested in some daily work if you change some little things.

@Sangwa: Well that \"help us\"-thing may only seem strange to me.
@Ethan: The Link to the 404-UserGuide can be found on the main-site of the mainsite.
@acraig: 1.) I know that you can\'t actually change the sourceforge-sites, as far as i can see it wasnt used (except CVS) since 2002, maybe because you had better tools elsewhere or something. Maybe you should write in the Project Description where to look for current information. But Users who browse sourceforge are in most cases able to find the right places.
2.) 3.) You could have that site in a inframe on the mainsite.
4.) The changes I suggested are very easy to implement, I really don\'t know how much time Talad is wasting on support, but if he would change some things he could actually lessen that waste of time I think.

Well I think you should integrate those different parts more, so that you have a seamlessly integrated website, it would look much better and would be more useable.

@Moogie: Well, tradition is good, but as I said you could lessen your boring everyday work if you dont do things only half. So its good for the Administrator and the users.

Well heres a description:
1.) Opened the Options-Menu
2.) Disabled \"Background music\"
3.) Disabled \"Ambient sound\"
4.) Disabled \"Auction sounds\"
5.) Disabled \"Interface sounds\"
6.) Clicked on \"Save\"
Well and after I took those steps, nothing changed!
