Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Password Recovery
« on: October 03, 2016, 04:42:53 pm »
I have tried to use the password recovery page (http://www.planeshift.it/account/change-password) and I get the page that says "
Success

You should receive an email at: xxxx@yyyy.ext with the account details."

I used tail to view the mail server log while doing this and did not receive any contact with another server in over 10 minutes (I run my own mail server).  I tried several times but still have not received any emails from planeshift.  Is the password recovery server sending the emails?

I also turned off iptables to see if I was blocking the server via rules.  Is there another way to reset the password? or see if the server is sending emails?

Thank you

Just a quick check - is VBO turned on?  I had a similar problem with the pause when I turned it on and it disappeared again when turned back off.  I do have an NVida card on that pc.

In theory this bugfix is retroactive, so all the broken pets should start to "work" after the next update :)

I guess I'll know when it is implemented then!  ;D

ok, this is in regard ONLY to the bug 980 http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/ and enter "980" in box in upper right hand corner... where it says "show task #".  I will also be updating that as well with some info soon.
... deleted ...

Bug report 980 is closed.

However, any current pets that were broken before are still broken.  Bamko, I have been watching this since you first posted the bug as I had the same problem within a day or two of you reporting it.

There is a solution posted for those with broken pets but it looks like more than ordinary privileges and time are required to fix each individual pet.  Could a batch job be run to automagically fix all broken pets?

I have an Radeon X1800. (Windows XP 32 bit)
I had the ATI Catalyst 8.4 drivers installed and still crashed. (half map-loading bar, once it finished loading (ojaroad1) but crashed less than 5 seconds after)

I searched for some even older drivers in my download location... and.. found "6-11_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_37616.exe"
referring to what I believe is their naming convention, that should be Catalyst 6.11.
With them it doesn't crash at least. (But blender doesn't like them _that_ much)

On ATI's website at the bottom of download section for 8.6 catalyst is a link to older versions.

I said earlier 8.3 worked for me, but it appears it was because I also turned the "Vertex Buffer Object" to off in PS Setup.  IF I enable it, PS crashes.  If it is off, it works fine.  I will leave it this way for a while before I upgrade my drivers again.

It seems there are few people with that problem.  Luckily(!) the server keeps crashing so are chars get reset.  It turns out that the latest ATI catalyst drivers are causing problems for some.

I can't get it to run on 7.12 to 8.6.  It always crashes while logging in.  I do not even get to see the world, just the login screen.  Will try turning sound off and another version of CCC to see.  I did not have problems with 4.0 so something that has changed has made my ATI card display it's bugginess.  Couldn't be PS!  ATI X600 on a crappy dell with Windoze.  I should try my linux box but it is too hot upstairs - lol.

Ok, downgraded to 8.3, turned off sound and now it is working.  Turned sound back on and it still works.

General Discussion / Re: Descriptions as Roleplay Tools
« on: June 25, 2008, 04:46:33 pm »
It took me 3 months of playing before I realized you could change the descriptions - then I had to actually find where to change it...  Maybe those with the default generated descriptions just don't know.

On the other hand, I still haven't changed it because I didn't want to lose the information there.  Can it be saved somewhere?  I'm too lazy to type all that info out.

Maybe [Game Policy 10] http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=31960.msg367024#msg367024  could be updated to tell where to update character information?

Complaint Department / Re: not enough people use the bug tracker

Fear of actually writing something and lack of knowledge - what to write? how to write? what do I need in the report? etc.   Too much time playing PS and not thinking about bugs.  These are some of the reasons I haven't.

I have a whack of quest 'bugs' I need to submit too (but those need to go directly to Rizin).

I need to just get started and see if these things that I experience have been listed before - you know like that partial tunnel blockage between the Magic Shop and Hydlaa that only seems to be a problem when I hit it? - I back up, shift left or right and go through - and the thought of actually submitting flees as I run towards EBD.  Is it just me?  Is it just Ylians?  Is it only when I am loaded?  Or is it only when I am wearing my horned helmet?

Harnquist isn't the only one that is affected by time.  Bevon also moves around and although he doesn't seem to sleep, can be hard to find sometimes.

Hopefully that wasn't a spoiler for someone.

When you say hello to Gregori, he has an unprintable character in text - it becomes a square box.
"Greetings, traveller.  Welcome to the Arena.  Unbridled violence is the order of the day here; you[]d best be prepared for it."

In the log file, this is printed as "youd".

There's a lot to learn when you first come to the game. Perhaps one of the NPCs could offer additional (optional) information like how training works, how to make money, etc ....

This information is in the manual, but... 1) Players don't read manuals at first (I know it's a generalization) and 2) It is easier to understand if you are playing and the information is given as apposed to reading the manual (ha) and trying to remember everything while playing.  Talking to the NPCs means the information is absorbed in a different manner.  Players will be more likely to read (and use) the information told rather than stare glassy-eyed at the manual.  Speaking from experience here.  :)
