Newbie Help (Start Here) / How to ensure that PS uses hardware acceleration?

Hi!
I just installed PlaneShift on my Gentoo Linux machine. But it has a very low FPS rate. And compared to the screenshots and to csdemo (the demonstration application from Crystal Space) it seems to me that PlaneShift uses software rendering. How can I ensure that it uses hardware acceleration?
