Seriously, recompile your kernel.  There is support for most hardare (except for really new stuff) in the kernel config.  You mostly don\'t have to bother with additional software--except, of course, for video cards.

How did I get one?  i\'ve only been playing about 8 months, and I just noticed that one of my falciones is silver.  The thing is, it always showed the two seperately, not as the same item with a number 2.  So I guess I\'ve always had one, but that\'s really odd . . .

try using a different browser.

I have the exact same version when I access the boards from my laptop, which has  a newer version of firefox.  With this older version of FF, it works fine.

I tried emerge planeshift once on my non 64bit gentoo system.  No matter who says that their is a working ebuild, I will never believe it.  But if it worked on their 64 bit systems, maybe you can use an older ebuild.

I seem to remember having read that Planeshift may not work on 64 bit systems.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

er, I don\'t know about Debian specifically, but usually hardware is handled in your kernel config.  I dont think moniter and speakers will give you any problems at all, but video and sound hardware might.  If they dont work automatically after you insall (again, I dont know how debian works) you will probably have to recompile your kernel.  If you have never done this before, don\'t panic:  It is not as difficult as it sounds, and there is plenty of help available on the web.

What trouble is your router giving you?  Linux=good with networking.

I have a thought about the name thing.

It is, actually, somewhat realistic to see someone\'s name floating above their head, even if you\'ve never met them.  It is a substitute for a recognizeable facial feature.  That way If you see someone you\'ve met before, but whos name you don\'t know, you can ask something like, \"Excuse me, have we met somewhere before?\"  The player sees the name so that the character sees the face.  Now ideally the character should not know the name without being told, I do agree with this.  However, it is easy to forget, as I have done quite a few times, and should not be reprimanded too heavily.

And you don\'t have to get in with the \"Uber\" RPers to have RP fun in this game.  Some of the most fun I\'ve had is simply playing the role of my character around others doing the same.  Merely conversing, usually.  And yes, someone walking up to your group and talking OOC can have a negative effect on the experience.  But it is important to be nice to them regardless, because not everyone gets this at first.

This thread got too long for me to remember all of, even after having read it diligently.  sorry If I repeated anyone else\'s thoughs unecessarily.

then we can eliminate hardware as an issue.  If I were you I\'d try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Just thought of something:
I have had a similiar problem (not identical) and in my case, there are two things that can cause it:
1: No internet connection
2: Openal sound is chosen.

In my experience, either of these will make Planeshift fail to load completely past the initial screen.  So make sure you are connected to the internet, and run pssetup and make sure openal sound is not selected.

oh, wait, openal is a linux thing . . .
/me hangs his head
sorry

/me scratches his head.

hmm, I don\'t know ATI all that well, but I\'d think that that would suffice.

Sounds like your OS and memory are sufficient.  Your chip is borderline, depending on your video hardware.  If you are not running a Ge-force 2 or better, I would say that that is probably your problem.

I believe that those warnings are normal, but the error is not.  I would edit your updaterconfig.xml following one of the build guides at laanx.fragnetics.com and try runnning the updater again.

IMO, that\'s just cheating.  I\'m not even sure there should be a /tell command, though I  admit I use it all the time.

well that is one particular problem that I\'ve never had (and I\'ve had lots of problems).  And this after you ran the updater?  I would try running it again, but if that doesn\'t work, I am stumped.  Good l uck.

OK I don\'t quite understand what you said, but try running the updater in auto mode.  I think that the way to do this in windows (linux user here) is to open up a command prompt, navigate to your PS directory, and type \"./updater --auto\".  hope that helps

If there is some way of storing trias and posessions, I think the loss of a certain percentage of trias or posessions on-hand would not be unfair, in addition.
