Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / uhh doesnt go past "Initializing World"

dunno if its my computer or what, but when it says the game is connecting to the server it freezes at Initializing World.
so i do control, alt, delete and it says the program isnt responding so i shut it down
should i just wait for the update or is there somethin im doing wrong?
