Newbie Help (Start Here) / linux problem

i downloaded the linux version but i cant run it or anything it is just sitting in my harddrive taking up space. i have linux whitebox which is basically redhat 9 if you can please help me soon. btw im new to linux so i could have just not done something to install it or something.
