Yeah its still really rough, ive yet to optimize or anything, just looking for the shape, and detail.. I have an updated model, I redid the body and reattched everything but my dang ftp wont let me connect..  always hated my isp\'s webspace.

ops with the ftp probs I totally forgot why I even posted this... I need input on the mouth/beak. Should I leave it to the texture and just leave it pointed, or actually make a small beakish protrusion?

Nice work Kuiper,  maps are one of my fav parts of fantasy. Nothing quiet brings the land to life like being able to look at map of the \"land\" just as long as its never totally accurate and leaves much mystery. I used to study LOTR maps in the books when they would talk about parts of the land, and try to peice stuff together in my head :)   lol Iam such a nerd and I love it

Unsure why your image is getting choped, I used to have that problem if i tried to exit to quickly out of paintshop pro before it fully finished (slow computer)

Its still pretty rough but comming along. Its all together I just need to refine and wittle it down to look like a spider not turtle hehe. I will be adding more detail as well, like the eyes on the neck that Duke brought to my attention (wasent sure what they were, warts? hehe)

what do you all think the rear end should look like?  just rounded off or some form of web spinner feelers or tenticals?

I was thinking for the texture, to be kinda fleshy like a turtle underneath the open areas (like the neck and under the claws where it meets the exoskeleton) then on top of the neck and claws kinda a bumpy hard shell like Dukes sketch portrays. Should the mouth have pointy teeth? or is it just a hole it sucks life juice from its victims? I need to read up on the Kaulak, Will do that right now, go go gadget search!

Figured I would post what I have done so far. Iam modleing this after The_Dukes concept sketch.

Welp, here is my (for me) finished Water Well, I probly wont be submitting it for PS, or anything like that since its definitly not good enough. Plus I forgot to add an optimize mod BEFORE uvw maping and after takeing so long to map it in the first place I just cant play with it anymore its makeing my brain hurt.. its in the 900 poly range so it needs work that I dont want to give it lol. Pretty much learned to UVW map on it and I definitly learned ALOT but this (for me) was a really complicated mesh hehe.

would be pretty strang if it was just me, since I use firefox and then tried IE, was about to post the reg system was bugged until I tried a diff register link but could repeat failed reg everytime..

unsure though, seen stranger things :p

Wow, thanks everyone.. a few differnt perspectives on UVW was exactly what I needed, that actually cleared up a few of the things I was stuck on. (was useing uvw unwrap, without a uvw mod applied)

Ive been reading alot of tuts but none really squared away what I was trying to learn. With a good bit more practice I think Ill have it on its way to being textured >8) Thanks ALOT for the warm welcome and insightful words just what I needed.


p.s.  Zeraph your work is outstanding(in awe of your Klyros), and Stydracos your harvester looks mean! hehe very good work, cant wait to see an update.

Fan Art / Need advice on textureing

Hello everyone, Iam just starting out in CG, and this is my first real solo model.

I think it looks pretty good but for the life of me I cannot get my textures to fit where I want them.. I know its my lack of knowlage but I also am haveing a very hard time finding good \"free\" tutorials online for proper texture application.

Iam useing 3dmax 5,  Gimp2, or psp and a few good plugins for 3dsmax like texporter. My question is can anyone point me in a good direction for learning good UVW, or any advice to give me in my quest for knowlage. I plan on contributing to the PS project if and when my models and textures are of good quality.

My model is of a water well that you would probly see around a farm or large homestead, I plan on doing more asthectic (sp) things like fences, sheds, other low detail small buildings, mabey even some mobs like chickens, dogs etc..

any advice is welcome, and I also must say I only planed on playing PS at first untile I started reading the forums and now that I see what a great community this game has produced I just have to be a part and help out where I can.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I decided not to clutter up the MB bug forum, with a very small (repeatable) bug.

If you are viewing a forum (as in NOT at the main forum directory) or are reading a thread, next to \"welcome guest\" there is an option to register or login, if you follow the login link, and then instead of loging in you click on the register link  it does not display the agreement, but takes you direct to the register form. After filling the form it directs you to a blank page and stops. No email for activation is sent it just dies. I was only able to reproduce this with that single link. The register link next to \"welcome guest\" works properly.
