Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Making custom maps
« on: March 24, 2005, 10:07:09 pm »
Hello,
How could I make my own maps? I am trying to use planeshift as a proof of concept design in my computer class. I am trying to tell the students that you can create anything you want with computers, even if it is a whole world.

I have been told planeshift does not release the map files... are there any working alternatives?

what tools do i need to make my own?

Will the game be playable?

I was going to teach a concept, that you can create anything your heart desires, no matter how odd it sounds... and use planeshift as the example.

So, will it have any maps or anything? How will I make it so that they could at least walk around on the game?

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Running a LAN server
« on: March 24, 2005, 02:52:22 am »
Hello,
I teach a computer class, and I have a several computers running Fedora Core 3.
All of which, have Planeshift installed.

I have checked planeshift out about a year ago, or two.

I wanted to find out how to setup a local server, so that I could have a proof of concept to teach the class (not that brilliant yet... just middle school). Anyhow, I wanted to teach that programming can bring something like a dream, into reality.

I am a believer in open source and all... I would not want to setup a working server if it was not for that the school (yeah public school district) blocks off ports to the planeshift server. But, I am able to run a server on one of my computers that I own to teach the class with things related to linux or unix operating systems.

I have looked in my home directory ( /home/*my name*/Planeshift), and Planeshift has no sort of server directory, or files that seem to be a server file.

Thanks,
Bit

I guess that is ok with a Linux binary.. because I dualboot with Windows XP Pro and Redhat Linux..

I have MySQL Installed on my linux dualboot... so yeah, I would really appriciate the linux binaries.

Thanks

also my email address is bitblaster@pso-net.net if you wish to email me the binary and stuff.

Here is what the setup will be:

Laptop running as server, booting up on Linux
About 15-25 Windows clients

MSVC 6

Could you possibly attach a copy of the server in a zip/tar/rar etc file, or email it to bitblaster@pso-net.net?
I would greatly appriciate a pre-compiled version.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Reguarding Server

Hello,
I have a question - I am setting up a LAN party at school and have chosen this game, I have played it for a while, it is very interesting, allthough you at this point do not do much, I still enjoy it.

I however, need a copy of the server software. I looked in the CVS tree, I saw it, but my compiler would not build it.

Could I have some help?

Thx
