Weapon name: Shock-Bolt (because the bold being fired comes as a shock, read below

How many hands needed: epends on what type. Two-hands are however preferable for higher accuracy.

Weapon Base: Metal, although the bolts can be wood based

Projectile: Bolts (Possibly specially adapted)

Type of impact: Pierce, like any other arrow or bolt (poisoning or other effect optional.

What it looks like: It looks like a sword. Honestly! Exept that the sword has a hollow inside which contains a spring. IT also has a trigger on the hilt, which when pressed opens the tip of the swords and releases the spring to deliver a one time shot.

Strengths:
- Your enemy definately does not see this coming.
- Can be used as a sword too. This leads to...
- You do not need to re-equip if you are suddenly faced with melee combat.

Weaknesses:
- Only one shot.
- Not very accurate and less powerfull.
- Very slow loading.

Costs: It\'s slightly mechanical, so you need to keep it oiled. It\'s also a good idea to keep the sword straight, or your aim will be off.

No cigarettes in the game. I will not play the game if the include cigarettes! Why? Well it\'s obvious...

They didn\'t have cigarettes back then! (Hah! I bet you were expecting an anti-smoking rant!). I\'m all for pipes and cigars though, it adds the the atmosphere of the game. The game already has alcoholic drinks in it, and this is really just an extention, and having a fag is no worse then slicing someones head off with a sword. Actually it\'s better: You only harm yourself when you smoke! If you don\'t like it, don\'t smoke!

Quote
and if you want that stupid tobacco that badly then hve it, but i\'m just concerned about 9 yr olds thinking let\'s go smoke the *waterpipe* is a good statement to state.

And how many nine-year olds do you see playing MMORPGs?

Quote
and dude they did have cigerette\'s in medievil time\'s tabbacco has been used by the human race for thousand\'s of year\'s (not to mention other kind\'s of plant\'s  ) the only difference is that they used a leaf to roll a cig not paper that came later...

Well, since tabacco is native to America, and since Medievil refers to Europe between something like 500-1400 AD, and America was discovered 1492 AD (and tobacco probably later then that), I have to conclude that they didn\'t have it in the middle ages. And the word cigarette refers to tobacco wrapped in paper, so if they rolled it in something different then it wasn\'t a cigarette.

Quote
If you\'re a heavy smoker, you\'ll need to smoke some tobacco from your pipe every X minutes. If not, your vision becomes shaky, and you will start to have a bit of trouble walking from shaking.

Firstly, this would kind of ruin the game, don\'t you think? Secondly, I\'m a smoker, I\'ve currently gone nearly a week without smoking and I have suffered none of the above.

PvP,PK and Thieving /

I think that pickpocketing should be implemented, but restricted to deter griefers. Socrates\' idea for example was pretty good. Or you could have the stolen object be stolen totally randomly, with maybe the thief choosing wether he wants to steal gold or objects, and mybe at higher levels selecting from a few random objects. You could also make some kind of special compartment in backpacks or hidden under the clothes where some small objects could be stored and be totally immune from thieves.

What fun is the game without some risks? I\'ve read posts here where people refer to quest items being stolen (and the quest therefore being failed). That is stupid. You may have the item, but the quest isn\'t finished, and getting pickpocketed is no different from being killed by a monster. You just have to be carefull when handling quest items, consider it part of the quest to prevent the item being stolen.

Quote
HOW can you keep your eyes open its not like you can feel the other people coming or have eyes at the back of your head .

Actually, if you\'re in third-person view you do.

Quote

Also how do you know hes pick pocketing you its not like you have your eye on your inventory every second and he is just moving close to you.

What happens if someone is choosing something in a shop and doesnt even know he is getting pick pocketed!

Times when people are not paying attention to their belongings or distracted by something (like when they\'re buying stuff in a shop) are, even in RL, times when pickpocketing is most likely. Either be afriad to buy stuff, or risk that a thief is going to nick a for Tria (Just for the record, I am against thieving being so easy and so rewarding as to attract griefers).
If someone took your belt how would you know it got stolen? Would you look ahead to see where you are going or look at your belt everywhere you go?
I reckon you would feel if somebody tugged your belt off, and this would be visually represented in some way, like a message saying \"Somebody ripped your belt off\"

Quote
If there is pick pocketing then there will be no afking, choosing items from a shop and looking at your loot because you could be stolen from.

Well if the game allows AFKing then I probably won\'t be playing it. Again, you just have to take the odd risk. Actually, this could be an excellent way to stop people AFKing.

Quote
Even your friend could be stealing from you because you dont even know him/her. You could go and get something to eat and then he/she would try to pick pocket you and then when you come back and look at your inventory you see something gone and you tell your \"friend\" your friend then says \"oh i says a person walk by i think he was the person who stole it!\"

You just have to trust your friends, what would be the point of playing otherwise, if you didn\'t trust anyone.

I\'ve thought of several alternatives:

-Miner/Smithy: This was my proffesion way back in the days when I played Ultima Online (And had a decent connection), and it was quite fun and profitable.

-I was also thinking of selling stuff. Not just your regular shopkeeper mind you, maybe I could sell stuff that I finlch from other peoples pockets or debris that I scavenge from adventurors or flogging stuff that somebody wants to dispose of in a hurry (because they aquired it in a hurry without the consent of the owner). It might get me in a spot of trouble, but it\'s more original than just being an Uber-Warrior-Mage hero with
Phat Lewt. Eventually I would run a tavern (filled mostly with thieves, rogues, assasins etc.) where I would sell stolen goods, arrange assasinations, lend money for pawned goods etc. Eventually I would build up a massive illegal syndicate, have all the Octarchs on my payroll and most of Illyakum in my grasp. Go me!

-An Octarch! I wonder if they\'re hiring? :D

What I really want to do is something that isn\'t done by many people.

Punk. Basicly, if it\'s punk I\'ll listen to it. I even don\'t mind the new punk poppy stuff like Good Charlotte of New Found Glory, although it isn\'t exactly my cup of tea. Currently my favourite bands are NOFX, Pennywise and Bad Religion, I used to be a big fan of the Offspring and Greenday, but I\'ve discovered that some stuff is just better. I also listen to some stuff out of punk. Notable bands would be SUM 41, Linkin Park and Tool.

Could you please enlighten me on what this is.

Well, I was highly sceptical when I read about the rock ecosystem. I\'m still not entirely sure. Howerver after a bit of thought I\'ve realized it could fill a very big hole.

MINING!!!

In most games you have mines. Or ore bearing rock or something. In real life this would be mind and then the people would dig deeper/push off somewhere else. This could be quite frustrating in game (although it could also add depth to it), with new mines constantly having to be found.

This could all be sorted out by regrowing mines. Trees regrow, plants regrow. Why should miners be denied the advantages of lumberjacks and farmers. Regrowing mines make a miners life stable, as he doesn\'t constantly have to find new mines, but he still can\'t mine like crazy, because everything dies when you harvest it obsessivly (coughAmazoncough). It also gives a realistic explanation of the bottomless mines (well, realistic if you bend the rules a little.

It could really give a \"feeling\" to certain places, and moreover, you could also make things this way : diaboli gain more experience in nasty places, but have some magical drawbacks near \"holy\" places and so on...

The Diaboli have an \'allergy\' to holy items. That does NOT make them evil!

I think this system would turn the game into a kind of strategy. Anyway, the landscape is not changed just because the big boss believes something (This is not LOTR). IF for example you had a guild that wants to usurp the land of all its resources (Which could be considered evil, depending on your stance towards Greenpeace opinions), then the land will look pretty shabby and worn out. If on the other hand the dominant guild(s) were nature lovers (read Hippys) then the land would look pretty nice, because they would rip out and screw up everything that they found.

Maybe a really powerfull guild, or a high concentration of guilds with a similar alignment, could cause a change in landscape. But I\'d leave this to the minimum. I don\'t want the landscape changing all the time and instantly just because of guild wars.

ditto for the huge tree idea.

Since we have a lot of different races some of them pretty peculiar you half to ask questions like what does a rock based life form eat. It can\'t be just rock because there\'s no energy in it.

Actually, you\'re not entirely correct. Our body is mainly carbon (actually it\'s mainly water, but we don\'t get a lot of our water from food), which is why we eat the stuff we eat. If you\'ve been paying attention in chemistry/biology then you\'ll know that all food is basicly carbon arranged in a different way. The Kran however are silicon based (check the race bit on the main site). Silicon is found in rocks. Guess what. Rocks are good to eat if you happen to be a rock yourself. Same way that we eat animals.

I think the word \'will\' could be scraped in favour of a word in another tense.

I\'m all for globalization. If it means I get stuff cheaper and at a better quality then hand-made stuff. The problem is, that it\'s turning into companies controlling the way we live. That\'s bad, especially when all the companies are under the thumb of the man himself, George Wanker Bush.

A general tip. Learn a language (as if it hasn\'t been said in every post) Look at the most popular ones adn decide which you want to learn.

BASIC: Very simple, DOS based. Easy to learn, but there isn\'t much to master in it. It\'s an excellent way to kick off your career.

Pascal: Don\'t have much experience with this. I know quite a few people who started off in Pascal and only later learned more powerful stuff. Also DOS based.

C: Structured programming (so where the 2 above, by the way). Not easy to learn. you might be best off learning C++ anyway. The basics are practically the same. Only small differences (like printf() compared to cout <<).

C++: Object orientated. Basicly means that you have a lot of blocks and you pull them together to make a program. Of course you have to make th blocks. Very practical, although quite hard to learn.

Visual Basic: Code-wise it\'s just a Windows version of BASIC. You get the added advantage of being able to utilize the Windows enviroment to the full (VB is made (stolen!!!) by Microsoft, so Linux and Mac our out of the question), making life very easy for an application or database progammer. It sucks for making games though.

Delphi: Don\'t know much about it. I think it\'s just a visual and updated version of Pascal.

I\'m personally looking forward to making a living. Not sure what yet, but I don\'t want to be and Uber warrior. Uber warriors suck, anyway, I never managed to get a grip on killing stuff, even on a PC.

Teachers don\'t neccasarily (spelling!!!) have to train people up in disciplines. They can be type of scholar or something.

I too am a firm believer in getting off your ass in a MMORPG. IF you have NPCs to hold your hand, your just playing a single player game with a lot of people around you. Player guilds, that\'s something different of course. But having in-game schools/guilds that teach you everything. NO!!! Get a pick-axe, hit rocks, get ore, smelt ore style of life. In real-life, I learned to play guiatar by myself, nothing is stopping you from learning to wield a sword by yourself in a MMORPG.

*Ponders why some clever guy doesn\'t make a DOS emulator for windows. That would run the games without nitpicky DOS stuff, and as a window program not a console, so you could do stuff like CopyPaste stuff back and forth.

Quote
But DOS can be downloaded for free and leagally...

How was Bill convinced t do that?!?!?!

For common genetic rules, an individual will have a prevailing race that will determine its physical traits. For this reason, the main races are relatively pure. In other words, it can\'t happen that the races merge together forming a single mixed race: if someone has a lemur father and an elf mother, he will belong to one race or to the other.

Explains it all. I think the Ynwynns are the only vague exception, being a cross of Diaboli and Dermorians. But I think the crossbreed was formed a long time ago and they are now an independant species.
