The Hydlaa Plaza / Still Here
« on: April 13, 2005, 08:22:36 pm »
Not sure if anyone cares, but it\'s been a while since I posted.  Just checking in to let everyone know that I\'m still here.  My computer had to be cleared of a virus, so I had to redownload Planeshift, which took forever.  But now I\'m back in, getting my but kicked by every living thing in there.

OOC: Here I go!(for now, I will be known as the mage)

Meanwhile, in a castle in an unknown place, a mage and a mysterious figure were watching the events that were taking place.

\"Do you not see all this destruction?  All this killing?  Why am I forbidden to intervene?  Maybe I cannot defeat this Seperot or a whole army of zombies, but at least I could lend a hand.\" said the mage.  \"But look at yourself!  Even if you will not let me go, you could surely turn the tide!  Are you telling me that you are just going
to stand by and allow all of this to go on?

\"...Inaudible noises...\" from the mysterious figure.

\"I do not have to reveal myself to them to provide aid.  I could help them from the shadows.\" replied the mage.  \"I could provide the aid of my magic, and they need never know of my presence.  And you forget that I am a powerful illusionist.  I would make myself appear invisible.\"

\"...Inaudible noises...\" from the mysterious figure.

\"Hmm...In that regard you are correct.\" replied the mage.  \"The Enkidukais possess powerful senses.  Even if I was invisible, they would be able to find me.  But I do not even see the need to conceal myself, only my identity.  I always cover my face, and I will not give my name.  And if necessary, I will just make it so that they do not remember me offering my aid.  They will believe it was someone else.\"

\"...Agitated inaudible noises...\" from the mysterious figure.

At this, the mage became angry.  His staff glowed very brightly, and he was surrounded by a blinding aura.  The ground and the walls of the room began to crack, and the castle shook.  The mysterious figure sat, unflinching.

\"FOOL!!!\" shouted the mage.  \"You actually think it wise to let this destruction continue?  This blasted necromancer is taking the world, and you wish to sit by and let this go on?  How could you even think that this could possibly end well?!  I will go and offer my aid, and you will not interf...\"

The mage was cut off by a power that shot quickly through his body.  It rendered him paralyzed, and he was gasping for air, barely able to breath.  He was held in the air by the mysterious figure.

\"...Loud inaudible noises, full of rage...\" from the mysterious figure.

The mage is then dropped to the ground.  He hits the floor hard, and regains the feeling in his body.  His breathing passages are re-opened.

\"...Inaudible noises...\" from the mysterious figure.

\"*panting* I...see\" replied the mage.  \"You... are right.  My... interference alone... would change nothing.  I...I am sorry that I doubted in your wisdom...My master.\"

I like to roleplay, and I\'ll do my best(I\'ll only be able to make one post, then I\'ll be gone for a week at least).

Name: Bartimus Konn

Race: Ylian

Personality and Alignment:  Enigmatic.  Although he maintains a cheerful disposition, you can see that he is never as he appears to be, for when you look into his eyes, they do not shine as the eyes of most creatures do, as if he had no soul.  Although he chooses not to draw distinctions between people by labeling them as good or evil, he could be considered a good person, who commits acts that could be viewed as evil, due to reasons that he says cannot be revealed for his sake and the sake of others.

Background:  What happened in Bartimus\'s childhood is of no consequence, nor does he choose to discuss that knowledge with anyone.  But it is important to know that from a very young age, he had a great fascination with magic.  Because of this interest, he grew into a powerful mage, specializing in the Azure and Crystal Ways.  He is generally unknown to the public, and those who do know him see him as a priest of sorts, using his magic as a means to heal many people across the land.  But because of the things that he knows he must do, Bartimus is selective to those whom he chooses to know him, and will use his Azure magic to wipe the minds of anyone who he thinks may either pose a problem to his missions, or will not benefit him in any way.  Having used this skill many times over, he is now skilled enough that he can wipe selective memories rather than whole sections, and even add fake memories to replace removed ones.  This is a power he never abuses.  He has managed to revive a person from the dead with Crystal magic, but has only done it once, since he nearly killed himself in doing so.  Bartimus is not a sociable person, and is never the one to start a conversation.

Weapon: Staff with a glowing gem at it\'s tip that has certain magical properties.  The gem is not removable or breakable.

Strengths: Very skilled in the Azure and Crystal ways of magic.  Has a brain like a sponge, and absorbs everything he hears or reads.  Basic training with staff combat.  Fairly good Alchemy.

Weaknesses: Spent so much time practicing the Azure and Crystal Ways, his mind and body are now shut to all other Ways of magic, so he is unable to learn any spell from any other Way.  Slow on his feet and weak physically, since he spent so much time studying magic and so little time training his body.

Anything Else:

Height: 5\'7\"

Clothes:  Dark purple shirt and pants with black belt under a cloak which has the hood up hiding his face unless there is a special occasion.  He magically changes the cloaks color, depending on the job he is currently working on.  It is either silver of black.  Black boots.

Eye Color: Icy Blue

Hair Color: Platinum

Skin Color: Light Brown

Gender: Male

Age: 27

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /
« on: December 29, 2004, 12:54:47 am »
If you ran the updater recently, that\'s the problem.  Something was wrong with the last update, which causes the game to crash, and the updater is closed right now because of it.  You\'ll have to wait until it gets fixed, and then update again.  Of course, I have no idea of how long that will be, but I hope it\'s not more than a few days.

In the mean time, you can join us unfortunate people who ran the updater before it was closed.

Well thank you Androgos, now I know why it is down.  I\'ll be gone for a while(about a week), so I hope this is fixed when I come back, cause I happen to have bad luck with MMORPGs(would you believe that I\'ve had City of Heroes for two months now, and still have not been able to play it due to lack of credit card?).

Is there any word on how long it will be down?  I can\'t get into the game anymore, so I thought the updater would fix it.  But now the updater is down, so I\'m just out of luck as usual.  And it seems like it\'s not everybody, since I\'m seeing posts appearing about in-game problems.  I get to the \"Loading Hydlaa Plaza\" screen, and then it crashes.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Can't Do Damage
« on: December 27, 2004, 04:56:11 am »
Whenever I attack the only monster I can find(the Carakass or whatever it is in the DR) I do no damage.  When I hit it, it says I do 0.00 damage.  Is this a bug, or is my character just to weak to damage the creature?

Could someone tell me what \"l33t 0n3! Ph34r m3!\" means?  I know what it is, but I am really curious as to what it means in English, and I simply cannot interpret it.

And I say no to mass pking as well.  I haven\'t played any other real MMORPGs yet, but from the mediocre ones I have played, I know that I hate it when someone walks around and talks like he owns the place, and no one but the admins(who are always, and I mean just about ALWAYS M.I.A.) can do anything about it because he kills anyone who stands up to him.  And then some others for no reason.

Saying no to mass pking would put a stop to that.  Unless...

It was a situation in which someone had gone through the great trouble of collecting a very rare and powerful item that was capable of mass destruction.  If he/she worked really hard to get that destructive item, then I wouldn\'t be opposed to him/her using it, as long as it was very, VERY hard to obtain, and the DR doesn\'t get much harder to navigate(but aren\'t they planning on expanding it quite a bit?).  Of course, if someone were to use such an item, players and NPCs alike would be all over him trying to kill him/prevent him/her from using it again, and of course it would only be usable say, once a month or so.

Thats my input.

Can you give an approximate amount of game time in jail we\'re talking about here?  That might help the take skills or not decision.

I personally am against it to a degree.  If skills must go down, only very slightly, because it would take a long time for someone to lose the knowledge that they worked so hard to gain unless they actively tried to forget.

Maybe a greater skill decrease would be an appropriate punishment for a normally good and famous guy who killed someone for no reason.  It could help keep good people from breaking character.

Here\'s my input:

This idea could bring about a new job:  the exorcist.  They would be the only ones with the ability to actually get rid of the ghosts, and everyone else would only be able to escape from them or make them go away for a short time.  I guess exorcist would be some sort of mage class that would be in either the Crystal or Dark way specialization.

Another idea for when they start adding new levels to the game would be that the lower the level, the greater the chance that you will run into ghosts at various places.  The haunted houses would have the strongest ghosts, and would have some nice weapons/items in them.

But even if my ideas aren\'t great, I think that this one is.

Just four minutes ago, I played the game for five minutes straight in Hydlaa Plaza without crashing!!!  I know that\'s not much, but it\'s a definite improvement over the usual five seconds.

On top of that, I logged in three times without falling through the floor!  Work is definitely getting done, and improvements are definitely being made.  GO DEVS!!!

I personally love the idea of the lifelike element in gaming.

I wake up in the morning(log in) and check the time and say \"Uh oh, I\'m gonna be late!\"  Then I gather my equipment and get on my flying creature.  I fly to a castle to fulfill an appointment with a lord who is deathly ill.  I get out my materials and my spellbooks and combine my magic and alchemy skills to save his life.  I am then payed hansomely.

That would be an awesome scenario to actually play by my own choice in an MMORPG with some real people.

As for love over the internet, I wouldn\'t mind roleplaying it, but I\'m not so sure about real love.  I had the oppurtunity once on my friends computer.  I said something to a goth girl, and she asked me if I wanted to be her boyfriend.  I told her how I felt about internet relationships. On top of that, she had a very sad story to tell(if it was really true) but I won\'t get into that.  And I have nothing against goths, but as far as I know, my religion puts me in the anti-goth column.  After that, I never heard from her again.

I\'d have some kind of staff.  All of the greatest magicians used staffs.

I think houses could be somewhat useful.  Sleeping in there would not be a long process.  You just say you wanna sleep, the screen blacks out, comes back on, and all your stats are restored.  Animal trainers could keep their animals in there.  Or it could be used to conduct magic rituals(if any are added in Planeshift, I certainly will not want to be disturbed while performing one).

My house would be one of two things:

A huge mansion with all the works.  Floating crystals, lightning flashing all the time, always dark, animals flying around the high towers, and my own beasts to guard the entrance.  I would have my own meditation/magic chamber in there where I can meditate or conduct magic rituals or hone my magic skills.  A library full of books filled with knowledge that only I and a choice few people would have access to.  My mansion would be surrounded by a magical force field, and my doors would always be magically sealed.  It would take an equally powerful magician as myself to manage to break in(I\'m not powerful now, but I would be then.)

Or....

An average everyday hut.  Just to keep people from knowing that it was I, the great and powerful Bartimus, who lived there.

The first is very, very unlikely, but would be awesome.

Whatever level has the least people in it is where I would make my home.  I would like to live in a secluded area.

That way, no one would no what I was doing...
