Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /
« on: August 20, 2005, 11:55:07 pm »
Somehow the button for \'Load all maps\' does not work, so I thought I should not change it, but with your hint I changed it in the psclient.cfg and now it runs fine.

Thank you

Anyway I do not know, why I can no longer load all maps. So if anybody knows what to change to get rid of that problem, please tell me.

When I try to start PS it works all right, until the client loads the world. While loading the world, the psclient.exe rises up to about 800MB as usual, but then it starts rising up from about 150MB again instead of launching the game. Unhappyly the memory remains allocated and as that procedure repeats the allocated memory rises up to about 2GB, until the game crashes.

I disabled the sound already, but it still doesn\'t work.

My system:
WinXP Pro
Athlon64 3400+
1GB RAM
GeForceFX 5900XT (Driver: 77.77)

My updater crashes, too, but I will wait some time before I reinstall the game, hoping there will be another solution, like a fixed updater available for download.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /

Neocuda:
The high usage of RAM (as you said 650-700MB) is not wrong, but i can use \'load all maps\'. I am sure it also depends on the OS you are using. I run Planeshift on WinXP Pro and with \'load all maps\' it needs between 700MB and 850MB, but it works. There must have been some changes about the RAM usage, because in older versions (some weeks ago) i could not use that feature, which definitly makes the game MUCH BETTER, because it is much easyer to feel like being a part of a world, if this world does not need to load new maps :) .
The Devs do not only seem to fix the bugs, but already start optimizing the game.

@P.S.S.
I am sure you are right. I am really looking forward to the time there is a good way to enjoy the world of Planeshift without any NEED to fight. Right now, the only thing you can do is to mine, which starts getting boring after a while. But with regard to the history, mythology and the whole setting written on the homepage of Planeshift there will be complete society in that world - with the need to fight, but many other aspect also.

Sorry, I start drifting off, too.

anybody, who claims about things could be better, can try to fix the problems himself and i am sure it is not that easy.

i am no dev and only have a very little knowledge of programming, but i know, that bugtracking isn\'t great fun at all and i am quite happy that there are the devs, who just do it anyway. so i think most devs would like to know about the bugs, but there is no need to criticize them for way or order they fix the problems, as long as you are not a dev yourself.

@Moogie:
there are diffenent effects of 6. two are described here (by beerke and me):

an addition to 1)
you do not even have to trap the monster, it is enough to keep the right distance from it, i.e. you always step back a bit, when it approaches, so it can not attack you and directly start an attack, though you are too far away. there is a distance, it does not come any closer, though it can not attack you. then you can make small step towards it an try to attack it, until you don\'t get the \"You are too far to attack\" message. after that, you attack it, without being attacked.

i think this is a bug, not a feature, isn\'t it?

Gorrunwe:

I fixed it the other way, before you posted your warning. Please post again, if you hear of bugs caused by that way of fixing the problem - you seem to have quite a close connection to the devs,

thanks

me too:

when i run the PlaneShift updater (1.0.2.2) it tells me:

Your updater version is older than the server\'s..
Updating updater to version 1.0.2.3

and message window pops up, telling me not to do anything until that prosses is completed.
so i waited some minutes and then looked in the taskmanager, but there was no task running, but the idle task.

and that happens everytime i try to update.

can anybody tell me how to fix the updater?
