Over & over? I've been listening to my own account for 3 days, roughly 4 hours a day, haven't heard an repeats, and only 2 songs from the same album that I can recall, & perfect choices on those too, from Zeppelin Physical Graffitti    nowhere near as repetive as my local radio station.

Tool comes to mind. but I'm an old timer.  Just heard some Motorhead on my Pandora account.. QWhat?! You've never heard of Pandora?  DUDE!, free kickbuttocks music, from bands you've heard of, and bands it thinks you'll like. After you thumbs up/down a few songs, it'll know the kinda stuff you like... now its Playing Rush Red Barchetta.. hrm, maybe because I gave a thumbs up to a Zeppelin song about a car.. anyways, I'm in no way associated with these guys, just glad there is now a legal and free way to get music in my dingy basement without a pile of CDs

http://www.pandora.com/

EDIT: just re-read their FAQ,     "At this time we are only licensed to offer Pandora music services to residents of the United States."

Karyuu, as mentioned I submitted 3, show them all if you like, I'm shure I'll survive the "constructive critisim", but technically, my 3rd, a terrible attempt at a reptilian rat, is not a valid contest entry.

I thought it was pretty funny. Would of been cool to have some "swimmer" that needed rescuing though.

Did you actually synch the music to his steps? or was that just a happy accident?

Now I'll have to at least sit through the opening of Baywatch, to verify historical accuracy of course  \\o//

In my excitemnet I whipped up 2, no 3,  skins and submitted them. I should have practiced first. I think I have gotten better.. a little

My attempt at the common one eyed lab rat

at least I would of known the limit was two.

Congrats to all the rat skinners who perfected their works and then submitted them. Patience is truly a virtue

I before E except after C and truly has a U in it!

Wish list / additional parameters for /roll
« on: September 16, 2006, 07:35:54 pm »
maybe these have been suggested and I used the wrong search terms, but I did look.. honest  :P

die colors, roll comments, and roll batching

* DIE COLORS
Something like a 'C' parameter, that indicates the die should pick a random color as well as a number, from say.. black, red, green or blue

/roll 1 13 C

"player rolled  blue 7"

or, optionally, the player defines color, it must match one of the randomized one..
/roll 1 13 C red
"player rolled red 11"

* ROLL COMMENTS
The idea is to be able to add a comment, thats appended to the roll, much like emoting while speaking..
* dewed yawns "well its late I'm off to get some sleep"

/roll 1 13 C "HOUSE ROLL"
"player rolled red 11 HOUSE ROLL"

* ROLL BATCHING
This just allows you to do multiple rolls with one command, use the asterisk *, and a number from 2, to say 7 or so. Batch numbers outside the range are ignored

So for instance,
/roll 1 13 C *3       repeats the roll command 3 times, echoing a single line of the "rolled" values

"player rolled green 7, red 3, black 3"

I think these options would greaty expand the type of games one could play using the dice system, certainly poker comes to mind, roulette etc.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Howto: Blood & Bones
« on: September 16, 2006, 07:00:57 pm »
That is a pretty good game, but you are right, would be impracticle to explain in game.    Someday I'll try to work out poker,

Something like ..

1 player is selected as "the dealer", they'll only need money to gamble with.
The "ante"  and "max bet" are agreed upon,
All players put their ante in a pile,
Each player gets 3 cards
/roll 1 13
/roll 1 13
/roll 1 13

Now each player has the option to raise or fold,

Once everyone has had a chance to raise or fold, players can now call, or continue to raise etc..
Once someone "calls", the dealer deals 2 house cards
/roll 1 13
/roll 1 13

The player with the best 5 card combo wins the pot, following standad poker rules, excluding hands dependant on suit,
1 pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, full house, 4 of a kind, straight, 5 of a kind.

and of course the spirit roams the depths of DR...   oooo   spooky!

Great idea I think, at least for a quest, if not the means of escaping DR

as for respawning where you died.. it may not be practical to put you exactly where you died, depending on how you died.. so something like an /unstick command before you totally spawn, to ensure you are on a level enough surface, and hopefully have a running chance at escaping that ulber!

Wish list / Re: Conforming Levelling Progress to RL weeks
« on: September 14, 2006, 04:01:37 am »
I guess I could be considered by some a PLer.. in my own defense, all the good RPers I know can kill a bandit in one or two strikes...

anyways, on topic.

I kinda like the idea actually, but I think I have a slightly better way to keep it in ratio, as a character progresses skill wise.

Once a week, occuring on the day of creation as before, but...
total the values for all skills, multiply by some number, like 0.2  .. maybe 0.5, rounded
that number will be the number of level increases the player is alloted for the week.
whenever a player "ranks up", 1 point is subtracted.  If they try to rank up and have zero points left, they're told something like "you cant concentrate and are unable to master XYZ skill,"  possibly display how many RL hours they need to "relax" before resuming studies

This way your ability to learn more per week does increase, eg; your character learns how to learn, which is natural.
It's at a fixed ratio for everyone, hopefully motivating players to specialize more as they start out, rather than trying to learn everything. It also rewards players who have mastered a few skills, by later allowing them to start learning neglected skills a little faster.

Yes I certainly could of used a how-to a month or so ago, probably still could. Thanks to a few, particularly Induane and Illori...   some ramblings, deductions etc.. Please correct/append as needed.   I used Windows & Photoshop for the most part, later I used Gimp for Windows to ensure PNGs were RGB/indexed where neccesary.  (What can I say, I'm a web developer, a 0.5MB image file seemed blasphemous)

What I did...
With Winzip installed, browsed to the skins directory, C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\art\skins\     in my case,
Right clicked one of the bundled themes, on context menu select
Winzip >> Extract to C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\art\skins\THEME_NAME

rename the directory to what you want to call your theme, you'll be talking & typing it, so shorter is better, mine's called prpl

edit skin.xml   put in your  <name>, <author> and <description>   info

edit/review imagelist.xml      take note of the "trans" values for the mouse cursor, typically 255,255,255 aka white
I edited mine to be grey since at one point my mouse pointer had pure white in it
    <trans r="99" g="99" b="99" />
whatever value you pick, be consistent and always use that color/pallete entry for transparencies where applicable.

When saving images, ensure your PNGs are in RGB mode, except the mouse cursor, it should be saved in index mode, using the correct transparency/alpha channel value defined in imagelist.xml

after modifying your theme, browse back to your new theme directory , C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\art\skins\prpl  in my case..

Right click, create new winzip file,  I of course renamed mine  prpl.zip
ALT, E, I  to invert the file selection,   you should have 5 items selected, 3 folders, 2 xml files

Right drag the 5 items onto your zip file , Winzip should open, the default options are likely fine, but I uncheck everything  leaving
action on "Add/Replace"  and Compression at Normal    Click "Add"

Copy the new/freshened zip file up one directory, to :\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\art\skins\
Run Setup and select the new theme if needed and launch psclient

When distributing your theme, take a minute or 2 to ensure you aren't including un-needed development files, like PSDs, that make the download bigger than it needs to be.
