I have played other real time RPGs, Like I stated draken, played both 1 and 2 great games they are too, Just oblivion has thee best one I\'ve ever seen by far. And because it was so well done I came to realise how uninteresting turn based really was, guess I was in denial of turn based being not so good befor Oblivion. lol

Also everyone keeps mentioning Morrowind, I am speaking of Obivion, Morrowind\'s combat system is poor very poor, might as well have it turn based as all you do is run up and swing like a maniac and hope when your sword somehow goes through them without hurting them that you might actualy do damage.

Sorry for my other post being so long, I\'m natorious for long posts. Also why it would be harder to have real time combat like FPS do is of the fact of so much statistics burning through the server, it has to do it\'s background dice roles for everything determining how much damage delt, criticals, strength, agility, endurance and plenty of other fun stuff, twice as much info is being transfered around with stats constently thinking, one reason why it\'s harder to do in a RPG online.

As for skill causing seperation in players, well personaly I would like to be the best in the game not because I got the best setup and character, I want to be the best because I litteraly am thee best. Otherwise it becomes a power leveling game to reach the top of the combat tier. If someone is unskilled in combat than they should stick with NPC and creatures for battle till they get stronger and better at it, Skill is far more fun than luck and stats. Such as FPS game, your the best not because you got the best gun, your the best gunslinger in town and thats a fact. would be stupid to play a Shooter and win every time just cause your character has really high stats. RPGs are getting more Shooter like because its a great combat system that takes a long time to bore of, you feel like your in control which you are.

I\'ve played enough games where everything is a dice role, is gets plain boring in a real hurry when everything is the same basicly but different rewards, kinda like Runescape, I was a member in it for a long time, but everything is the same basicly, nothing is really unique at all in all the skills one reason people often get bored of it around lvl 70.

This was another long post by me, Berzerk your local moron. thank you for wasting your time reading this. lol

(Once again I\'d like to state that none of this was offencive or hostile in anyway to anyone or thing, I have to be careful of what I say and always make disclaimers like these cause I know some people can be easly offended.)

I don\'t know, ever since I\'ve played The Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion and it\'s combat system I can\'t even stand playing any other game with a turn based system. Having the ability to control everything in battle WITHOUT dice roles determining anything but small things like damage delt or critical hits. Being able to block with your shield at your command not a random chance of a block was so nice, and attacking with a simple click of the button or hold it down for a slow but powerful attack made it better, also being able to determine what type of attack you made without any silly combat stance buttons was great. Spells were even easy to cast even in mid battle or out of battle, didn\'t have to switch anything to use it just a simple click of your use magic button fired it off like a normal attack almost even if it wasn\'t combat based, magic I must say was done to almost perfection in it.

Basicly I can no longer stand turn based combat anymore, ever since Oblivion (Which in my years of gaming has THEE best combat system for any RPG ever by far, yes even better than draken 2) everything else just seems so..... limited and extremly uninteresting, basicly you start combat and watch and hope you win, little involment except in spells and small stuff. I know this is plane shift not Oblivion, but Turn based Combat I do believe has played it\'self to it\'s end, its now boring and depends almost soly on stats and equipment, very little skill needed to do anything in battle. Most involved turn based combat game was Guild Wars, and it was fun for a little while, but like all other turn based games you get to the point where your thinking \"Ugh not another fight\" in a real hurry. Guild Wars didn\'t go to lvl 20 only to keep balance, they did it cause by the time your reach it your pretty well bored of the combat system where nothing really intresting can be found in it anymore.

Being a rouge character who uses speed and manuverablility to win a fight not brute force is severly hindered here being forced to basicly blunt fight his/her foe, with a real time combat with actual controls would allow them to hit and run or use trickery.

Also I absolutly hate it when I see my sword go RIGHT THROUGH a guy and I somehow completely miss dispite he should be a halfling after that. not saying you should be able to decapitate or anything just stupid you swing right through someone and don\'t even hurt them. Turn based is not a bad idea, was a great system for a long time, but it\'s potential has been played out completely and there is no way you can make it any more interesting worth noting than it already is. Its time to face it, Turn based is done for, Real time combat is going to sweep the gaming world now that people have had a more than a taste of it, they got a full meal and are hungery for more, a lot more.

I don\'t know why I bother saying this since it won\'t make it anywhere beond this thread, I brought up a real time combat system befor and got shot down badly by everyone here even the mods, as if they all want a turn based combat system so bad they had to socialy kill me in order to protect it, was weird (However this was like a year ago, things may have changed since than). If they play Oblivion and see what a real time combat system is they would have a big change of mind in how fun turn based really is, cause I certainly lost a ton of interest in turn based since Oblvion. Of course ever making PS real time combat would require one strong engine to pull off to keep the game smooth and most importantly transfer delay from each player\'s PC, obviously would have to be slowed down a bit so others can react befor the lag kills them. Plus sometimes you just feel like swing your sword around like an idiot for no reason at all, just a moronic human side effect. lol

I know this game isn\'t based on combat, its about more realistic aspect such as economy and politics, but a good combat system is essential for any RPG of this nature to thrive, weather turn based or real time.

Hmm I reread this post befor I plastered it here and I know some would take it badly soooo, Let me make note that none of this was hostile to anyone or thing, was mearly a expression of \"my personal\" dislike of turn based combat (Which I did like \"befor\" I played Oblivion). I would like to see this in PS but I do doubt it would EVER make it do to so many logistical problems with it being online namely the time delay which hinders slower connection players unfairly, perhappes somehow get it running as smooth as most FPSes and it would work amazingly. also they have a working system of combat, though they admit is primitive at the moment which they can easly manipulate and upgrade to a far stronger and more effective turn based combat system than the current. These are just the rantings of a old school gamer who is thourghaly bored of the same old turn based experiance over and over and over again.

Sadly if this remains turn based, oblvion has deffinatly hurt my desire to play this game, HOWEVER, I will still play without a doubt if they get it half as good as they claim it will be, as it will be a direct rival and IMO the deffinate superior to the other game quite similar to this one in gameplay aspects, not sure if I can say the name here or not but if not just censor it please don\'t mean to cause any trouble, but I speak of Runescape (which you have to pay to play if you want to enjoy the game beond lvl 50). Only problem with this one is the simple fact it\'s still in production and will be for a long time.

Please insert any nessary flames of my ignorance (Which I posses much of, more than you fools muhahahaha), counters to the idea or encouragment for the idea \"Here\".

Note: you don\'t have to encourage the idea as if it would actualy make it ingame, just agree to the fact Turn based is boring and you would like to have some real time fun.

Wow lots of good points made on both sides. For starters I don\'t mind the watch style of combat I just would dump it any day for a self-controled combat system. So if PS stays as a watch style I won\'t mind that much, just personaly I think it not as good of an idea.

Secondly, Internet speeds between Cables and 56ks is not half as bad as you say, the internet has gotten so much faster now days having a phoneline connection is not a major disadvatage, still a disatvatage but not much. I remember back during the Quake two days me and my bros would beat the living crap out of cable and T1 players with simple blasters against their mighty rocket launchers and we were on a average of a 42k connection only. lol, now days the differance between connections is much smaller so I don\'t think thats a real valid point to make.

Thirdly, WOW someone else besides me has actualy played Blade of Darkness. LMAO

Fouthly, Having a real time fighting system would eliminate teh nerds from ruling the world like Black_Rose said, very annoying to know that who ever plays the most obsessively is gonna be the top no matter what, sure thats more or less the reward for being so devoted, but its also very stupid to see someone wasting their life playing it all the dang time. I for one would be glad to see the obsessive players finaly knocked around so they realise they have a life outside of the game. lol

Five, Cybio Kingfist I would appreciate it if you didn\'t post a quote leaving out the rest of a sentance that adresses part the meaning of that quote, you made me look like I was complaining to the Devs like a child that the real time fighting is not in this, I was complaining in general of all MMORPGs that none have done it yet. Personaly I thought it was rather rude, but thats just me.

Six, The fighting system can still incorporate the statistics part, but not to determine the whole fight, but build a system thats uses both realms of combat in one system.... but not like Morrowind did cause that was just as bad as the watch style fights really. Compromise a way for combat to suit everyones desires, perhappes even a Auto-fight for players who suck at fighting, and the better you get the better you auto-fight, of course it wouldn\'t be as good as fighting yourself.

Seven, If you must absolutly have a watch and pray style combat system than look for one of the zillion other games like this use that system of combat. Waiting for this one when your real goal is point and click combat than waiting is pointless as there are tons of point and clicker combats out there now that are done and fully playable already. lol

Eight, (Man this is getting long) The point of this thread was to encourage the Devs to use the Real time combat system by seeing how many would want it over the standard old watch style. This was not ment to be a debate over which style is better for what ever reasons.

Nine, This IS still a alpha, there IS a ton of work to be done on it. anything and I mean ANYTHING can be changed in the production time it currently has. This game won\'t be done for at the very least a year or two. Why I brought this up I am not sure.

Ten, Just for good measure, and because I wanted to break the ten mark. lol

Heh, totaly missunderstood what I just said. I ment, I doubt they will change it to a fighting system I described, but they could change it to be like that. Never said they won\'t, I just said I doubt they will is all. lol

Doubt means \"don\'t expect\" not \"never will\". :)

Bah, they\'ll keep the current system of combat, why change it after so much work was done on it?. Besides I HIGHLY doubt they will dare to venture into a new realm of MMORPGing thats not the traditional stuff you find everywhere else, besides they wouldn\'t want to go through all the trouble of building a combat AI for the Enemies in the world. But if they do make it like I hope, that hot dang this would probably be the best MMORPG I will ever play.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /

Sorry to ruin the party for you, but i found a spot where you can easly walk right out side the walls and out in the to unknown, I was out there myself for a while, but the walk back was really far so I ended my life by jumping off the huge cliff by the town. lol.

all you got to do is walk along a wall that overlooks the laanx temple by the back. but there are large chasms that I dared not to cross for fear of totaly character screw up, but otherwise I found another and easier way out there. lol

I use the keyboard for movement and view, (Except turning which is on the side buttons of my mouse). the mouse look ingame is totaly useless and unless they really speed it up it will always be useless.

Having to learn the controls like that is cumbersome, plus you have to click a tons of keys to do everything. its not horrible I mean it could be a lot worse, just they could have made it better easly.

General Discussion / To fight or to watch the fight?
« on: December 31, 2004, 09:42:26 am »
95% of non-textbased MMORPG combat systems these days are just watching the fight go on. What I mean is you start the combat and than your character starts swinging away automaticly in a timed system or something like that, you don\'t actualy fight yourself you just watch the fight and hope you win.

I remember playing Draken a long time ago and fighting with it\'s system online, was the greatest sword fighting game online that I had ever seen. you actualy swung and blocked yourself in realtime combat, was totaly immersive, super intense fights and utterly awesome. it was about both about a strong character and your battle tactics, Currently how PS is, the strongest and best equipt person is basicly gonna be the winner everytime unless the other player gets lucky. Also its really retarded to see your blade obviously go strait through it and not do any damage. I don\'t expect this to chage at all but it just sucks that no good MMOs use a REAL fighting system instead of the standard watch and pray style.

Most people might disagree with this but thats because they\'ve never felt what its like, Why?, because theres nothing like it. Every single MMORPG fighting is a watch teh fight style game, Project Entropia has a click and attack style sure but it costs money to play that game and in a bad way too. (Uhh unless you plan to dump money into play the game don\'t even bother to look it up though it is free to play), it was really fun and cool but the money issue totaly screwed it up.

Imagine, a newbie with no weapons or knowlegde in the world could come and beat the greatest warrior in the world becasue he is so skillful in fighting that he can beat that other player, sure that possiblity is practicaly impossible but its still possible. lol

Basicly if a MMORPG ever came out and used the click to swing yourself style of combat, I would dump any MMORPG I would be playing at the time. its a incredible system just no one uses it, but the first to use it will get TONS of attention because its the only of it\'s kind so there would be no competition for a long time. There I have thourghaly wasted yours and mine time by complaining about something thats not gonna happen for a long time. (Sigh)

I agree, most games the looking system is easly done with the mouse, fast percise and everyone knows how to use it. the controls in PS requires 4 keys just for the view, thats aweful in my opinion. the point and click stlye isn\'t very fun myself, if you had a target like thing in the middle of screen or something like a FPS or morrowind had it would feel like your actualy looking at it and picking it up. the mouse look was terribly slow as well completely useless basicly as you have to run your mouse across the pad like 3 times to do one full turn, also having a target style instead of the less favorable point and click would work right in with it nicely.

I don\'t know why but it seems like everyone has trouble playing this for some reason, its like they all play on these ancient crap comps that can\'t handle anything, I run fine on my older computer, the 1000x800 isn\'t bad really, though it would be nice if they cut a lot of that unnessary large framing from the menu boxes like chat and stats boxes. Veiwwise its not bad though of course it can be improved but its a minor issue at this time so don\'t expect anything anytime soon.

well the system would work very nicely if the NPC told us what to say to teh next one for the quest so we don\'t geuss for hours. if we knew what the heyl to say it wouldn\'t be bad at all. Personaly the Morrowind system Miya suggested was not fun at all, I did not like it, it felt very fake and totaly unimmersive, the Morrowind dialog system was very powerful but it was not fun to read and use as it doesn\'t even feel like your talking to that person. But currently without a list of the commands for the quests the Morrowind dialog would be far better.

I say when talking to them (Like we currently do) there should be a update in the quest journal telling you the phrase to use when talking to that certain NPC. That would simplify everything and save a lot of work on the Admins\' hands.

Currently I haven\'t completed any quests cause of the hours of guessing needing to be done, I\'m usually a patient person but this fustrating stuff can even tick me off quite badly. So the quest system isn\'t that bad it just needs to tell you what to say to be any good otherwise yes it does suck.

I might as well agree as well, the current quest system (don\'t mean to offend or anything) but it down right SUCKS!, never have I seen such a cluncky and frustrating quest system, almost seems like you put less than a halfed *** effort into it in it\'s current state. I know its a lot of work already but its just awful to use and looks bad to many players who don\'t understand this stuff that well. I built a entire world and everything in morrowind and I know how aweful Dialog can be to be messing around in, but this is so far \"unacceptable\" as a quest system for beta porpouses it can remain like it is for more important things to get done first like game/server stability and fixing the millions of bugs it holds.

For the mean time I think there should be a open list for the commands, at least we will have half an idea of what to say instead of spending half the playing time talking to a single NPC.

There I\'ve basicly just resaid everything already said above. lol

Have you tried that or are you suggesting it?. cause unless you tried it and it worked I\'m not gonna do it cause I don\'t think it would work. its a problem in there last update not a PC problem so I don\'t think we can do anything about it at all unless we get a whole new account and start from there.

Umm possible tip for those that goof up there game like we did. Don\'t uninstall and reinstall, you can\'t update than(Updater is down remember). at least you can build and play a different character in the mean time, just not your messed up one. I found this out the hard way.

I know what you mean, thats the exact same problem I have and many others.

And I tried making a new character to just do something in the mean time and it too crashed like my main character. Not sure whats up with that, uninstalling and reinstalling did no good both times I did it. I think we\'re just screwed untill the admins make teh patch for it which shouldn\'t take long I assume considering this will really grow as a major problem in the next day or two.

So my suggestions are... play something else for a day or two than come back to see if the problem is resolved yet. Sucks I know, I want to play as well but i\'m also stuck outside of the game.
