You are talking about implementing Steampunk.

It could work, I like steampunk.  But there will always be people who just want swords and magic, and nothing else.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Linkdead and respawn

Is it just me or do other people have coltinual occurances of going linkdead, or the server link dead.
I always have, and when this used to happen, I would relog and suddenly I have fallen through the map and die.

The a little while ago, it escalated to falling through map and dieing, then when I get to the death realm I fall over and die again.

Now it is up to, when ever I relog, I don\'t die.  I just spawn half way down on the wall of one of bridge supports in the deathrealm.

This is very annoying because It takes all of the xp, and  training practise (that from practical use of skills, not from useing progression points) I had culminated before the link died.  But If I play the game and die anyother way.  Whent I go to the death realm I still have all of the xp, and trainng from when I died.

On the topic of regaining health.

The health bar on mosters has been doing odd things for me.  Some times it wont move, some times it bounces back and forth, sometimes after taking huge hits, the bar starts refilling at an insane pace.

There is also the problem of rats jumping around, but that is a differnt bug.

Everytime I log in I \"fall down and die\".

I faught a Carakas (Sp?) in the death realm.  respawned, and I was a floating corpse.  Died again, same.  Manuel respawn, same things.  Zone, same thing.
I could move and everything it\'s just me avatar was a corpse.

Various rogue skills can work will in games, and as it was said, really depends on the balancing.  Lockpicking, theivery, assassinations.  All good ideas.  Just have some sort of police force patrol the cities, and when you are outside of them, you are on your own.

There also needs to be some backdoor fences so that regular shops don\'t buy stolen goods, thus increasing the chances of getting caught.

Just a suggestion of how it is handled otherplaces.  The Discworld MUD requires you to be a member of the Thieves or Assassins guild.  If you don\'t carry your license them you get tossed in jail.  There is also a quota that must be upkept.   But this requires the somewhat unique poilitical system that is set up there.

Not really anything I\'ve seen of Planeshift so far is truely original.   In fact you could say there are no more original ideas, but it\'s how you use the cliches that counts.

Any of you read the Discworld books?  It has all of your standard fantasy fair, but just twisted enough so that it is original. Trolls are just silicate life forms.  Large stone creatures with brains like semiconductors.  There are teetotaler vamps.  Werewolves are just ordinary people with a social desease.  They can shift to and from wolf form as they please.  Elves are evil extradimentional creatures that feed on fear and confusion (IMHO the best implementation of elves ever).  There are dragons but they are just stupid swamp lizards that explode if they don\'t eat right.  There are noble dragons but these are also extradimentional, extremly intelligent, and powerful creatures that deserve the awe and respect the intsill.

Witches, wizards, living furniture, anthopomorphic personifications, all of these things.

On the subject at hand, I don\'t think at this point Vamps would fit.  Lycanthropes might be a bit of a streatch, but Fable worked them in well to it\'s own world and it worked.  I see no probelm with dragons.  It just depends on how they are treated.  If all dragons are gargantuen brutes, then that is just silly.  If they all sit around in librarys reading from dusty tomes, smoking pipes, that would be silly also.  A race of dragons that have varying sizes and attributes is the best way to go.
