Yhea  build  without debug will help a LOT, also check ram consumption of PS ,  maybe 250Meg swap isn t enought ( and thats  why the kernel kills it )

honestly  200 polys  is quite low , and you can t  just make up a  figure with 18 tris , cause 12  is  a cube, so you d have something a little  better than a cube.

About texturing in  wings it has already been covered in the art forum but this was quite longo ago, and i dont think than it s weird or something lot of peoples actualy find  wings uvmapping quite good.

You have to press press  UVmapping while  in object mode , it s the last item in the menu ( ithink), then you select  edges , and mark them  for cut or , select the  faces and asign them a color. then  press unwarp and you are done, after you just have to arrange all the parts.
( i recomend to select  the  faces/edges before  starting the uv mapping, then  save the selection, then recall it again when uvmapping)

When  it s done you right click and  chose make texture, then it will appear in the ouliner, after that you can export it at the same time  than your object , or choose make external, then modify the external pic with gimp or so , and then  click refresh after eatch change.

to propertly work with the texture  in gimp i suggest you than the  very first step you do  is duplicate the layer, and set it to some low transparency , so you still have the references of the faces  while painting.

I used those tents  too , as well  as the 8  rooom   version

The 12 room versions are like 2x6   with 2 metal bars , and  8 room  versions are  1x8 with 3 metals bar.

May  sound rude , but you should do this  more often, actualy ,i miss the days i was a  scout, when you know howto do the stuff, and when  you are used to do this , it s no problem  even if it s rainin or so well,  it s still boring as hell  cause you have nothing to do , but it s less paintfull.

Like, get tools  so you can  dig a line next to the tent ( 10-20cm is enought), and  make  sure all the water is going there, and not inside,  train to setup the tent propertly , even without digging  not too mutch water should do into a tent. If the water came  from the top it usualy means than there s a hole inside ( stupid, but you should have somone to check up tents  sometimes) or than you didn t  set up your  tent propertly, like  it s very  important  when it s rain than the inner part of the tent doesn t  touch the upper  part, cause  none is immune to water, but the watter is suposed to hit the top part then  be struck inside, and then flow on the side.

Make sure everyone  takes  launch at the same  time, make peoples  sit in 1 circle , make 2 peoples server the  food , so  that everyone can soo how mutch food everyone get.  And you don t  get screwed  when your turn  comes,  make sure  the guys who serve the food  serve themselveslast,  also  the cooks  have to  clean the stuff they used to cook, else they  are just gonna make it all dirty whole cooking and don t care (or you can  buy black soap but it s very dirty) .

If you are using those 300$ tents wich comes in 3 parts  with metals  bars inside.  the bottom is square ,  it s easy to do. For the  2 other parts: you need 2 peoples , they grab the tent  near the holes at top , start to run with it ( yes)  so it s all  very flat, you put the 2 triangular part on the midle, with 1 guy sticking his hand on the corner so it s all flat. now you should have a rectangular shape then  ( i dont  know  the word for it) you put one half on the top of the other , then again then again, then you roll that  very tightly( have  to do this while apllying lotta  strenght ) and put everyting in the bag.

The  same  methode should be used with other kinds of tents

a suggestion we had on the irc is than peoples who have  some special architecture  like 64bit stuff or so provide an SSH  access to the devs in order thay can fix some stuff , i don t think any dev heard the suggestion yet , and i am not sure how mutch usefull it could be , but i think than it can only helps

how many polys are they ?

try to reduce the molycont on the bottom i d say , and mainly the one of the lace , also try to merge the handle with the claws themselves.

can you try to textures them with  sutff like flames or so ?

for uvmapping in wings , i suggest you make saved selections sets before starting the uvmap, make one with the edges between the claws and the handlesand select an edge that goes from the bottom to the top of eatche claws , the goal is to imagine than you have like a   big figue in paper and then you are trying to cut the paper along the edges in order to put the paper flat.
Once it s done click on unwap , select eges for cut  , then unwrap , the editor will distord some of the faces in order to put the \"paper\" flat  , if the distortion is too big for the texture to loook good , then cancel , and modify the selection set .
In the same idee if you need more resolution on some face, by cutting the \"paper\" diffrently you can get it. Also , once it s unwrapped , move and scale the maps in order to use the  maximum of place , and scale the part wich need a lot of resolution very big.

I hope it helps , and like  usualy us gimp2 to texture :))

bah , at worst , there s even stronger algos than md5 , which require more cpu , but if it really become a problem one day , i think peps will make the switch

there s still the solution to make the meshes and uv maps in wings and export  to blender or 3dsmax then to cs/planeshift

vengeance didn t liked the idee , but if i can suggest it again, it would be to put eatch sector/zone into a different package and allow peps to download only the ones wich correspond to the zone they play in ( like in guild wars )  but maybe it s too complex to code , also it depends how the maps looks like.

I  do use firefox for browsing, but for making webpages i would suggest mozilla because it have a real javascript debugger, and a webpage editor wich isn t that great but allow to check the placement of tables and stuff.

But if you are on windows and are making webpages i would hightly suggest to install opera too , and regulary check compatibility with opera/mozilla/IE, if you can give a try to lynx,  just to realize than things like forums are completely unbrowsables for some peoples ( lynx is a text only browser, so blind guys use it)
