Yep, I downloaded this 1023-2 updater and executed it. It tells me that no files need to be updated. Btw, 1023-2 worked very well, much batter than 1023 which brokens sometimes in SegFaults and bus errors.

EDIT: I changed the active repository mirror (for binary install) back to your server Karosh. Now he downloads 22MB...
EDIT2: Now the result: I can start Planeshift now (yeah...), but when logging into my account, the client tells me that I\'m not running the correct version to play on the server. That\'s strange, the update isn\'t five minutes ago.

Hi,
sorry for the long period of not posting here.. Hehe, I tried to find a solution on myself, but now I need an advise.

I spend about a week now to get the psclient started. Without success. Actually I\'m working with an install from the binaries (Karosh\'s binaries) and with CVS install. At first, here are some computer details:
CPU: AMD AthlonXP 1800+
RAM: 512 MB
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 2MX 400
OS: Debian SID with Linux Kernel 2.6.10

I\'ve installed CrystalSpace, cal3d and cel also from sourcecode. I think they are ok and ready to use, because I played Planeshift with them already. The different variables point to:
CRYSTAL=/home/phnord/CS (CS CVS install)
CEL=/home/phnord/games/cel (cel nightly snapshot, I get an error message when using cel from CVS)
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/phnord/cal3d/src/cal3d/.libs/:.

About CVS install:
This is the most preferable install to me. The problem is that, when I ran the ./psclient and logged into the server, it takes about 5-10 minutes to load the world map, GUI etc. After that the client runs with 0.0-0.1 FPS. So it\'s unplayable. My OpenGL subsystem works fine with other 3D-Games (even with that old gfx card). The console output is kind of strange:
**** INPUT BUFFER FULL OF TYPE ....
The most common number was 13, I think. Could this really happen? \'free\' says that there are still a few MBs left on RAM. Perhaps this is a known bug? I couldn\'t find a thread with a solution for that.

About install from binaries:
That\'s really annoying. I played well with the binaries, until the new update began to stop the fun. After installing I updated all the needed files. for Crystal Blue. Full of hope, I started the psclient again, but it messed up while I didn\'t use \"the correct version of Planeshift\", even after the first update. I tried to figure it out by myself, and had a look into updaterconfig.xml. I changed the mirror that the updater uses from
http://www.mortalsaviour.de/download/updater/  to
http://laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/ . To my surprise, he downloaded about 18MB from this server (how could that be?). Full of hope (again ...),  I started a new try but the client and setup still exit with the question for the crystal environment variable.

Now I\'m here. Please let me know if you need any debugger output.
Thanks

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

I used the seach button, but I couldn\'t find any workouts for this problem.
I even downloaded the new updater binary and let it update the game. The link you posted describes somehow similar problems, but have not got a solution as far as I can see. Actually, I\'m experimenting with moving & copying directories, reinstalling ... I\'ll let you know-

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Updater/PS error
« on: January 21, 2005, 09:24:28 am »
Hello,

I just updated PS on my Linux OS. The updater (1023) says that no files need to be downloaded. But after connecting to the game server, a dialogue window \"You are not running the correct version of Planeshift [...]\" pops up. I tried updating the Linux updater, but I can\'t find a newer version at the repository.
Any ideas?
Thanks for now

Hmmm,

I\'m thinking of a kind of \'maximum capacity\' for every character. This means that every thing needs his own \'specifig weight\'. This sounds more realistic to me than limiting the amount of items. Of course, it means more work too, I just want to say this for future development :D.

Development Deliberation / Update failure
« on: January 16, 2005, 05:59:33 pm »
Yo people :)

According to the problems the player community experienced (me too of course) due to the work on the update server, I tried it again now. I\'m happy that the repository seems to be online again, but my updater is kind of buggy. When i run
./updater --auto
it says:
Critical files () not found (Server only)

planeshift.updater.application:
  psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Downloading registry...
0%....25%....50%....75%....100%
Loaded registry
Your updater version is older than the server\'s..
Speicherzugriffsfehler (trans.: Segmentation Fault)

This happens with the CVS AND the PSCB binary installer version!
Any ideas?

thanks so far

Update:
After a complete reinstall PS starts without any problems. But when I open the Skills & Stats window, it crashes like described above, with a memory allocation error. I think it\'s a problem with the GUI so I\'ll write to a dev, perhaps he/she knows a bit more.

Hi,

I don\'t know if it\'s a good idea to receive the update files while the Devs are working on it (they won\'t make it impossible for nothing). While I need a complete reinstall of the game, I decided to do the update. It\'s the second run now, the first time I got a memory allocation error at 4%. Otherwise be patient, like some people said already.

I experienced the same problem under Debian. I needed to export the CRYSTAL variable to solve it (I took the PS installer binary file, search for it in the forums, and compiled Crystal Space on my own).
To do this, type

cd /path/to/planeshift/root/folder
export CRYSTAL=/path/to/crystal/space/engine
and then
./psclient
to start the game.
in a console (as a normal user).

Hey Ho!

After loading the World Map planeshift exits with a memory allocation error. I ran memtest86 to exclude hardware problems, it found no RAM errors.
I needed to restart Planeshift cause my character model became invisible (I think it happend due to camera pos. changes in the sewers,  can\'t remember exactly). After restarting PS and joining the server PS writes many error messages into the console:
----------START---------
Warning ID: crystalspace.maploader.parse.image
Description: Could not open image file \'/this/art/effects/moogiemarker.png\' on VFS!

PostSetup:
  Couldn\'t find effect material: moogiemarker.png

Load:
ERROR: Problem with an effect obj in: windblast

Speicherzugriffsfehler(trans.:memory allocation error/segmentation fault)
--------END--------
If a dev wants a complete extract of console output, please let me now and I\'ll post or mail it. Due to the work on the update server I can\'t reinstall PS completely (just by moving the art folder away, uninstalling PS and copying art back to PS root folder). I searched the forum for that problem, but couldn\'t find any matches.
I\'m running PS (installed from the binary *run file) on a Linux 2.6.10 machine with Debian SID on it.
Tried to download the cvs repository, but it hangs after sending the password (just by pressing enter). Perhaps someone knows a link to an HowTo for installing CS from CVS?
Thanks for now
