Mac OSX Specific Issues /

Big and bold so hopefully this won\'t be asked again:

The Mac version works, but is not new enough to log onto the server. There is no newer binary version, and the updater is broken anyways. The maintainer is working on it, but hasn\'t made a new release yet. Give him time, it\'s a difficult job.

Your options are:
 - Wait. This is the best option for most people. There will be a new version at some point, and it will most likely be announced in this thread.
 - Build it from source yourself. If you can\'t discern how to do that from the earlier posts (esp. on page 7) then this option is not for you... it\'s a very intricate (and, to an extent, difficult) UNIX-y procedure.

Sorry to yell... hope this is clear enough it isn\'t asked again.

- The updater is broken.
 - The maintainer is working on an update for the updater and client... neither are ready yet. If you want to build from CVS yourself you can, it works (I\'ve done it) but the procedure is very complex. Just wait, he\'ll get it ready before too long. :)

(This is what I believe has been said in the Mac thread pinned in this board.)

If you\'re really desparate and good with Terminal, it\'s possible to build PS from CVS on a Mac... just build cal3d, CS, CEL, and then PS. Run the updater and add \"System.RunWhenNotFocused = true\" right after \"System.Win32.DebugConsole = yes\" in psclient.cfg. psclient should work now. You\'ll need to run cslight (from the CS build directory) on most of the maps in art/world.

(If you have no idea what I just said: the Mac version is usuable if you\'re willing to mess around for several hours on the command line with a rather complex build process. However, if the above makes no sense you\'re probably not able to do it yourself; wait for the next release. dfryer\'s work is definatly visible.)

I\'ve done that and can log into the game and play as usual on my Mac, but it seems that data/options/ignore.xml and shortcutcommands.xml are getting corrupted every time I log off. If I don\'t delete them, PS crashes on next start... they\'re definatly not the XML they should be; rather garbled. Not sure if it\'s Mac-specific, a PS bug, or just a result of something gone wrong in my build setup.

Posted info (including a sorta-layman\'s fix) in another thread about the death realm problem... it\'s a lightmap issue.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Lightmaps

The death realm problem (and the problem with random black polygons overall) is a lightmap issue. Apparently the Mac version ships with partially broken lightmaps for some maps (magic shop, death realm, akkio, arena, laanx dungeon). You can use the CS opt \"-relight\" to fix at least the death realm... the others are harder due to PS\'s networking. I couldn\'t get PS to fix them, but cslight (from a local CS build) fixes them fine.

If you have no idea what I just said, here\'s how to fix the death realm. For the other maps, you\'ll have to wait for an update.

When I say to type something into Terminal, leave the quotes off. :)
1. Die and leave you character somewhere in the death realm.
2. Sign off.
3. Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
4. Type \"cd /\" and press return.
5. Control-click on psclient.app in your \"PlaneShift 3D\" directory.
6. Open Contents -> MacOS and select psclient
7. Drag the psclient app to the Terminal window. Don\'t press return yet.
8. Type \"-relight\" into the Terminal window, after the bit that the drag a moment ago put in there.
9. Press return. PlaneShift will start.
10. Log in and select the character in the death realm. It will take an *insane* amount of time to load with *no* indication of activity whatsoever. Give it a long time... five minutes on a fast computer, twenty to thirty minutes on a low end computer. Be patient.
11. You should be able to see everything now.
12. LOG OFF AGAIN BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!!! If you accidentaly load the main area, you\'re pretty screwed. It\'ll have to relight that entire map, which takes several times longer than the death realm... and you can\'t stop it, because if you do the lightmaps will be screwed up anyways and you\'ll have to do it again.
13. You can start PlaneShift normally and you should be able to see the death realm on any character on that computer.
