Hi Seytra. Mate I hate to say this, but I have no idea what this, your last post here, \" To run the updater in auto mode you need to open a command prompt (from the programs menu: MS-DOS prompt). In it, you enter:
c:
cd \"program filesplaneshift crystal blue\"
updater -auto \" means. I have spent all day trying to do this, but have failed. I run Me and it does not run Dos, but I still went looking for MS-DOS prompt in the programs menu, and I couldn\'t find it. When you say, \"cd \"program filesplaneshift crystal blue\" \", I don\'t know what the cd means. This is embarrassing to admit but I am lost. I know people will be thinking I am out of my depth, and more then likely I am, but I have played a couple of other MMORPG\'s. It is just that I have never had to be this technical to play them. So Seytra, if you could give it to me in Onthorish, that would be great.

angeladorra is correct. Even people who speak English as their first langauge are sometimes not too bright. If you can speak a second langauge, even brokenly, you are brighter than I am. I\'m Australian, and bloody proud of it, our version of English is my mother tongue, but perhaps they need to produce a guide in \"Dumb Aussie\" for gits like me. Perhaps it could read something like this..... Glowing box with pretty pictures is a computer. Can you say computer? Go on say it with me, COM_PUT_ER. Very good! If you can not see pretty pictures on the box that looks like a television, please make sure that you have it plugged into the power point and turned on. What, you don\'t know what that means!!!!!!

Forum and Website Discussions / Multiple requests

Hi, as I have searched around trying to sort things out, I have noticed, as many of you have, that people aren\'t conducting their own searches for answers in existing threads, or perhaps due to the vast number of threads, are missing the appropriate threads. Perhaps I am doing the same thing with this thread. Therefore they just create a new one, which just adds to the potential for confusion. I strongly suspect that what I am about to suggest is either not possible, or is an awfully large amount of work, but I shall proceed. Is it possible to condense all of the appropriate current tech help threads into one forum, perhaps in \"Newbie Help\"? If this was done a lot of the current clutter could be removed, thereby assisting any future searches. Further in the future when someone creates their own version of an existing thread, a mod could just PM them telling them to go to said forum to find the solution, and delete the copy of the existing thread. (Sorry to suggest more work for the mods) This would then help keep double-ups and clutter to a minimum. Just an idea.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Beta/Alpha
« on: January 19, 2005, 05:13:35 pm »
Okay, as a self confessed ignorant git who knows nothing about anything to do with this type of thing I must ask this question. What is an Alpha/Beta test? I am guessing that they are stages of game development. I further assume that due to the desire of the dev\'s to always keep this game evolving that it will never be classed as a finished product, so therefore will always be Alpha/Beta. I only first came across the terms Alpha/Beta about three days ago.  Perhaps if people better understood that they are not dealing with a finished product, but one still in development, (As I understand it anyway, though I may be wrong), that they would better endure any difficulties they may experience. Me I just hate not knowing what something means. Would someone please explain these terms to me?

Your humble, though hopefully not always to be ignorant, git.

Hey Seytra, thanks mate that worked.   I now have the current version of updater, but it is now doing the freeze thing as it tries to  download and install the updates. I tried to do as you suggested earlier in this thread when this happens, but I can\'t run updater in Auto mode. (Not even sure what that means.) I tried to do as you suggested in normal mode, but I couldn\'t see a way to access the files to do as you suggested. I tried doing what Dugatoar suggested by running command, but when I type what he suggests,  \"c:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\" in the command window,  I just get \"bad command\". Sorry for being a painful noob, but is there any more advice you or anyone can offer?

Mate you probably have already done this, and if you have I apologise in advance. But have you looked at the thread in this section titled \"Hack/Fix for win 98/Me Update ( COMMAND.COM hang)\". It has some advice on ways to fix updater that have worked for other people, though not for me yet, but you may want to give it a shot. If you have already tried this forgive me. It is just that I thought it possible that you missed it. If you find an answer please let me know how you fixed it.

Good Luck.

Oh, I also tried to do the unzip thing as well, but could not find the file mentioned in the other thread. I did find something similiar, it was just called updater and was a zip file, so I extracted it to the Ps folder. I am not sure if this was what I was meant to do, but it didn\'t work. So I am still stuck not being able to update or play.

Cheers

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / glwin32.dll
« on: January 18, 2005, 07:25:39 am »
Okay, first let me say that I am a techno caveman. But I have managed to fix the @ problem. I also have the updater problem. When I run updater it tells me my version is old. It then appears to download everything okay. It says that it updated the registry etc. At the bottom of updater you have the two loader bars. The first one completes its\' loading but that is where it stops, and I get the hanging command window.

I have followed all the steps mentioned in this thread. I have removed the old dll files, and downloaded the new ones into where I took the old ones from. I also got the glwin32.dll error message when I then try to run updater. So as suggested I renamed it to glwin321.dll. I still got the error message, just with the new name. So I thought I would try removing the new glwin32.dll file I downloaded, and put back the old glwin32.dll file and try again. All this did was again leave me with the hanging command window. Yes unfortunately I am using Me.

I have tried just running Ps without updating but is says that my version is too old. I have had the game since yesterday and I am yet to play it. Could someone please help me.

Thanks.
