Linux Specific Issues / Gentoo ebuild stopped working!!
« on: July 23, 2005, 01:46:52 pm »
Okay, Well I was running fine with the gentoo.

Then Gentoo updated glibc and running planeshift gave glibc errors.

Ahh, I thought. emerge planeshift will do the trick.

BUT... It installed the old release, Molecular Blue!!

It says downloading/installing 0.3.10, but it\'s really MB!!

It\'s totally weird.

Linux Specific Issues / Icons (at top of screen) HUGE?
« on: July 19, 2005, 10:02:55 pm »
Okay well I did a gentoo portage install of planeshift, planeshift-updater --auto.

Then ran planeshift-setup and finally planeshift.

Planeshift is fine intill i get into the actual game, where the icons at the top (exit, options etc.....)  are huge, and take up nearly the whole screen.

Tried lots of resolutions, all at fullscreen, and that did\'nt help.

The only thing I think might have caused the problem is I control-c \'d my origional planeshift-updater --auto instance because I had to turn off my computer, but It did do some more updates when I did the update command again.

P.S: It was downloading when I stopped it.

Also, You could try the gentoo ebuild.

Can\'t say weather it works for me, Cuz I\'m doing my inital planeshift-updater --auto now :(

Thanks for the bittorrent... And the 8 seeds is cool too.

I\'ll seed for a day or two after I download it, But my upload is only 128kb/s :-(.

P.S: Woot 8.2% in like 10 minutes!! Horay!

Reading the first post, i\'m a little confused. If i download the package now, do i still need to download the updater file?

I\'m getting my new graphics card today so i can play planeshift *amoung other reasons* - before it ran at one frame a second no jokes! (the internal graphics in my motherboard are unsupported in linux, so i had to use software rendering which went .. um .. fast?)

I did anouther update later and that fixed it.

Well.. It\'s still only doing about 1 frame a second, I really need to get a new graphics card. But It let me start playing so that\'s good.

P.S : While i save, is there a way to turn of textures or something major to get it running at at least 6 frames per second?

Galihad: I ran mine with ./....

Also, as root run chmod 777 planeshift... , but I don\'t think that would make a difference - It should come up with Permission denied if there is a permission problem.

Also, are you in X? ( The Graphical Enviroment)

I\'m running 3.007 and just downloaded - unpacked that file.

Still same error message.

I\'m running Gentoo linux with the 2.6.10 kernel.

Thanks!

(P.S: A few days ago planeshift got to the caracter creation fine, but then I had to go , and when I next tried I had this error message)

But even when I get planeshift running it\'ll go slow as hell, Linux does\'nt support 3d for my card, so it does software rendering :-(. I\'m buying a new card soon.

I\'ve been waiting for this installer scince the official one totally bitched up and did\'nt even make any binary\'s (horay!) and Then I come back here and your loki installer got taken down like 30 seconds ago - Damn :-(.

I think I\'ll try the loki installer, it\'s worked for me before when some other files I\'ve downloaded have done little more than take up disk space and print error messages :-)

Hope the Approval happens this year, but looks like it might be  2015 before it\'s approved  :-(
