Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / crashes-Problem solved
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:14:41 am »
After installing the new version, no .exe-files (in PS directory) did work any more. Installing to new folder or in old folder made no difference.
Downloading the new updater files did not help.

My Problem was solved with help of this thread.
I downloaded this file to my PS directory after installing the new version and extracted all files.

I could now start the game or the update, but running the updater produced new problems after the successful update (maybe it installed old files).

=> Do this to make your installation work (If you had crashes after just installing the new version of the game):
1) download and install the new version of PS
2) download this file to your PS directory
3) play!

Have you used the \"update.exe\" in the gamedirectory already?

If you have, try turning sound off in \"pssetup.exe\".

The correct name of the server is \"Laanx Fragnetics\".
Did you run the updater.exe in the game directory?
That should help.

Any questions left?

General Discussion /
« on: June 29, 2005, 08:17:18 pm »
It seems as if the devs were working on several problems at the same time and are waiting for the next major update to include all fixes at once.

Why can\'t they just focus on one problem at a time and give us updates asap?
Are the problems so much dependent on one another, that is it simply impossible to solve one problem for it\'s own?
Or does it indeed take that much time to solve even one of the problems?

I don\'t really get the point of including several fixes at once - if new problems should occur, it will be harder to find out which of the \"fixes\" caused it.

General Discussion / Rats defeated finally?
« on: June 24, 2005, 01:51:31 am »
Hello everybody!

I am happy (well, on the other hand... :D ) to tell you, that weeks and months of endless fighting against the invasion of rats seems to have taken effect - at least in the arena.
I used to guard a hole in the wall of one of the lower rooms, where they used to crawl out to spread terror and deseases amongst the arena fighters, at least i did so during the last 2 or 3 days.
There are not any rats any more, as it seems, but i am not sure about that. They might still be hiding somewhere and trying to surprise us somewhere else, perhaps even closer to the city plaza, where kids are playing unprotected!
Therefore, i ask all of you experienced rat-hunters to join in my search for those evil, sneaky rat-bastards!
Anyone who can find them, shall be regarded with 100 tria for protecting the citizens (and securing my main source of income ;) )!
I could at least give you 50 tria (due to the loss of my main source of income :( ) for giving prove, that they are indeed fought back to the sewers successfully.

Thank you all for your attention, please help making Hydlaa a safer place to be!

Edit: The rats have found a new place to arrive in the arena, although still in the same room.
Anyways i don\'t regard the city to be safe, because i can\'t explain HOW they were able to move there. Perhaps they do already have secret tunnels everywhere under the city and could go anywhere they liked to!
A lot of fighting still needs to be done,  but will it be enough? Isn\'t it also our duty to find the source of the menace?

A worried Shalieso Abugora

I had the same problem when going from Hydlaa plaza to the arena. Every time quite the same spot, very close to the end of the tunnel (had the problem from the other side, too).

Robzombie179, did you buy any armor in the game? I bought a pair of leather boots, but sold them soon after (i read they are not implemented). Someone guessed there could be a connection.

Another hint might be the camera - when using a 3rd person view and standing near the tunnel entrance, i can sometimes see the scenery from outside, where you could never go to.
Perhaps the camera gets to a spot that it can\'t show or something?

I once was able to avoid the crash when moving to the tunnel in 1st person view. I don\'t know whether it will help again, tho.

edit: Problem is solved - well, evaded - now anyways, but i just want to add that it could not have to do with the camera as well. At least it could not only be the cameras fault, because the crash also appeared in 1st person now (see next reply from Game Master zabeal for reason).

A text-based-system will never be as precice as a menu.

The thing i dislike most is that i do not even know if it is worth the time trying dozens of possibilities.

Try to improve the actual system, if you will manage to do that it will be great. Just let me see it when a NCS does not have anything more to tell me. thx :)

... so why discuss this?

Well, perhaps to give them a hint what we would like to have in the future :))

There will always be 2 opinions, depending on your character: Either you want to have easy success (to avoid getting bored) or you don\'t (then you want to feel like having worked very hard for something to be proud of it).

None of them is wrong, but there is a way to combine them.
I think, the best solution is a medium, like it is done in almost every popular game/rpg: Easy to learn, hard to master.

1st step: Players need a felling of success rather often, to keep playing something - why would you spend your free time on something that is no fun, but rather frustrating or boring?
The easy solution is: give them easy success in getting better stats and bombard them with money. Quite easy to do.
If you are able to get the best items in the game very soon that way and you are soon more powerful than any enemy, the game will indeed gat boring after a short period of enyoing the power.

2nd step: You need to have aims for the medium or distant future, aims you can not achive in a few hours or days of playing.
The easy solution would be to give very little exp for anything you do, or to give as few money as you get atm/make things rather expensive to make ALL stats and item worthy.
If there are no other things you could regard as a success, it will be boring for too many of the players.
The ones who don\'t believe me, take a look at Diablo 2 or WoW - successful games with similar technics like planeshift.

Conclusion: Either you have more things to do (1) (and to succeed at) than gainnig money and exp., or you need to get these rather often (2).
(1) Probelm solved for anyone, if you are able to succeed in these other things rather often.
(2) To keep motivation up in the long run, either there need to be lots of items/stats/monsters or everything is more difficult to get, the more you have already.

I am sure the devs know about it and balance will be restored after everything is implemented :)

Atm, i regard it rather frustrating to run down to the serwers for 2 weeks to notice any success.
Free bonus: Getting killed from time to time by \"robust\" rats or even the slightly stronger ones or gobbles, that i never intended to fight

I encountered these crashes in full window mode several times now, whenever i switched to the desktop.
Turning the sound off does not help.

I have the .dmp-file, but can\'t upload it. Any email to send it to?

I use Win XP sp2, directx 9.0c on athlon 1333, 512 MB RAM, Geforce 4 Ti 4200 (128 MB) and do not have any problems with other programs.

-_-\" this is a free beta... what do you expect? Exercise some patience.

I had all the problems listed above, here is what i tried:

After several tries i installed ps to a new, empty folder. I did NOT uninstall the other (newer) version!
After that, i encountered the \"MSVCP71D.DLL missing\" - error.
I manually copied MSVCP71D.DLL and MSVCR71D.DLL (was also missing, new error occured) to the new directory.

Then i once again had the problem that nothing happened after the updater told me it would update itself and i should do nothing but wait.

The (not updated) game did run without any problems, not even the \"Error loading Graphics2D pluging\". The only server found was fragnatics, a connection was of course not possible due to the elder version.

Any ideas?

Btw, where are the new updater-files stored that have been downloaded successfully? Perhaps i could copy them manually. Or what else does the updater do after downloding its newer version?
