Newbie Help (Start Here) / library book
« on: June 05, 2005, 07:00:05 am »
I have seen a book in the library called communication with creatures.  I can select it using the target item command, but cannot select it by clicking on it.  Someone told me I should be able to read this book by right clicking on it, but I can\'t seem to manage this.

Therefore, is it possible to read this book?  Is the book there but cannot currently be used?  Or is this an error with my client (I\'m running Linux)?

Any information would be appreciated as I can see this book being of particular use is some areas of the game :-)

This has probably been posted else where but try as I might no search returned useful information.

Just to play devil\'s advocate a little, though I definitely agree that many phrases, obsenities, and other names just don\'t belong.  But who\'s to say that some sect of the many Yaklium (sp?) cultures would not have similar to the ones we have today.  Also who is to say a word with one meaning in the languages of today could not have another meaning in Yaklium, or be a name of no meaning at all.  If you really want to be so picky as to prevent all names that might have some remote similarity to words with cultural meaning today, then why not force everyone to learn a language that is only spoken in game.  English or any other language for that matter brings a bit of current culture into the game with it just by being spoken or typed.

Of course, one might say that talking to the NPCs, using \"tell me about\" followed by single key words is a different language other than English ;-)

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Smelting

Seeing as this is a thread on smelting, I was wondering if smelting has been disabled from the game at the moment?

Thanks in advance

Wish list / You get my vote for teaching
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:24:46 am »
I definitely like the teaching idea.  So what if it reduces the number of people training at an NPC.  NPC\'s are there to promote and tell the story.  If the developers were worried about NPCs loosing their jobs to in game players then blacksmithing would not exist.

General Discussion / Barkeep Needed
« on: April 14, 2005, 12:58:36 am »
A bar keep would definitely be cool.  One that walks back an forth behind the bar would be even better.  That way even if no player was in the tavern, it would feel more inviting by having some movement and life going on.  Maybe, the developers could even get the bar keep to toss some bottles around when he\'s making drinks :-), just like the movie cocktails!  That\'d be really cool.

Oh, and I wouldn\'t mind a good looking waitress either ;-)

One last, thing what is a bar without, beer mugs, shot glasses, and spilled beer.  If I remember right the bar top looks mighty empty.  Penderin calls for another pitcher while he waits for the barkeep to find those beer mugs he\'s misplaced.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /
« on: February 21, 2005, 07:30:04 pm »
I\'m thinking I should start posting questions without reading any of the other posts first.  Maybe, that\'ll get me out of newbie forum status :-)

Otherwise, all my easy questions get answered by previous post, and I\'m not on the forums enough to answer repeats before the regulars do.

I guess I could start trying to compile PS for myself on Linux, I\'ve heard that\'s a challenge, and would give me something to post question about :-D

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Character Creation Bug
« on: February 19, 2005, 05:18:10 pm »
Just wondering if it the following bug is known:
1. start creating a character
2. fill in all the infomation through parents jobs
3. go back to the first character creation screen, where you select the race of your character
4. Go forward and change something like what you set for your parents jobs

Rather then updating you remaining CPs to reflect the difference between your parents old jobs and their new ones it subtract the total CP cost of the new parents job from the remaining CPs.  This allows the remaining CP count at the top of the screen to become several hundred CPs below zero very easily.

Also, once this bug occurs you can go back to the main screen that has the new character button. Click on the new character button, and if you do not change the race the CP count goes from 100 CP in the race selection screen to the previously negative CP count.  The only way to reset the CP count is to select a different race, then the CP amount remaining is corrected.

The linux client has a check box to remeber login password, but everytime I quit the client and run it again the user name and password are not set to what I entered last time.  Is this a know error or should I enter it in SF\'s bug report?
