Try to find the double-arrow icon in all that mess - if you can see it, right-click on/under it to change modes. if not , you will have to edit planeshift.cfg, with any text editor, to have three lines, near the end of the file look like this:
PlaneShift.GUI.ControlWindow.CurrentStyle = 3
PlaneShift.GUI.ControlWindow.Width = 780
PlaneShift.GUI.ControlWindow.Height = 56
PlaneShift.GUI.ControlWindow.CurrentStyle = 3

I agree ever since the updater updated windows from 007 to 007, it\'s been a waste of time to even try to play. i redownloaded 007 and tried a fresh install: it crashed out on that Server dropped us (Invalid error message) after a minute or two when I rejoined in the arena, and i had to get killed and go to the underworld to fix that. It was black when i got back to the plaza, but i stood there for 5 minutes, and got something that looked like night although it was 11am in the game. I then noticed that my pp and experience were both at zero, and neither mining gold nor killing a clacker changed that 
- i tried relogging the game, but all that did was replace 10 gold ore with 1 rat eye and 5 gold ore with a loaf of bread - didn;t notice that till i tried to sell my gold near the plaza
- it\'s pointless to play, under these circumstances. YES- there should be an ALPHA test of changes before it is issued to all players!
I reinstalled 007 and did NOT run the updater this time. I ended up on the Fragnetics server, and although the inventory was still messed up, the lights are back on in the plaza and my progression points are working again!! Try that. there are 32 players here right now.

ABSOLUTELY!! a NEWS section - it\'s obvious that the news on the main.html is OLD news by the time it is posted. A NEWS section in these forums, with read-only priveleges for all except the developers and server site-managers. Where we can be told if the server is down for a period of time, or that there is an update for the client.
EXAMPLE:
( I just got an update to the updater AND .3.0.007 client which was 7 megabytes in size - windows-version, and still shows as 007 when i load it. But I got the oval bad-news window :

I\'m running in Windows ME, and have the same problem, also the labels and buttons above and below two upper text buttons are hard to read ( only the top half of the letters are visible). The quest with the blacksmith near the plaza, for gold ore certainly has no description, and tried to give some ore to him but he wouldn\'t accept it. So either i\'m doing something wrong, or that quest is not functioning.

Very funny - no tummy ache yet, and if any of that food turned back into a pickaxe, i\'d know it by now. All this was in the last 36 hours, I hadn\'t even downloaded the client when they set the data back on the 20th. And the rejoin I was about to do when i posted above: I didn\'t lose anything, but i got a free (invisible) carrot and one loaf of bread: The consolation reward for link-dead victims??
update: another connection problem, this time i lost 10 rat skins, and gained one invisible carrot to take their place
Newer update:
The next two relogs (join game):
1. I left with 13 gold and rejoined to find 10 rat eyes, 3 gold, and 2 \'invisible carrots\' in two separate slots of inventory. I ate each of the two carrots, and regained 1 EMU, apparently the weight is 1/2 each.
2. (downloaded another update (still shows as 007): The server is starting to feel sorry for me? 1 rat eye was gone but was replaced with the 10 gold i had lost 10 hours earlier(also 2 carrots)!
I crashed out : (illegal command) when i tried to eat a carrot. After restart I tried to DROP the carrots: crashed out (illegal command) -
Next restart - The carrot was lying on the ground (sewers) next to me, the other carrot still in inventory [i decided not to touch it!] But the 3 rat eyes i had accumulated were replaced with a MASTER Crafted Rock pick, better than the \'sharpened\' one i had lost 2 days ago! Remainder of inventory remained intact throughout all this. ;~
Now i just killed another rat, and before i could even request to loot his body parts, another server disconnect: (illegal command message). I\'ll try disabling sound this time, and will see if any diagnostic (dmp) messages were generated.

I lost a sharpened pickaxe (replaced by 2 carrots and a loaf of bread!!) after a link-dead, and i had been carrying that pickaxe for hours. I didn\'t report it, figuring it was a part of the LD problem.
But just moments ago I quit and rejoined the game because my guild name wasn\'t showing ( another player told me). When I rejoined, I was in the exact location I had left, but 6 gold ore were gone, and instead i had a loaf of bread and another \'invisible\' carrot.
(I ate the food on both occasions, but i don\'t see that it had any effect. - is it supposed to?)
I went link-dead again as I came to the forums to report it. I hope I still have 15 gold ore in my inventory when I return, as well as my pickaxe and broadsword.!?!
