Wish list / Re: Book / Map Improvements
« on: January 09, 2009, 03:05:12 pm »
More entities per page than just 200.

In my opinion that's the single biggest issue with sketches.
Every map I've made it felt more like making a puzzle than making a drawing, from trying to stay just below that limit.

Well, there is already a /fish command...

Funny, that tavern has been on my mind a lot lately... and I can't say I'm surprised to see this thread.

I rather like the idea of a tavern run just by players. Much as I like Allelia, I wouldn't particularly care for sharing the bar with her at Kada-El's. Although, considering the Broken Head's layout, I think an NPC there might be less of a problem.

While have tended the bar at the Broken Head a little, I hadn't decided if I should put any real time into it. But with this thread here, maybe there'll be more than a person every two hours.

( Also; it'd be nice to have a kettle there. )

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks nice!
I collected a lot data for my own maps the same way, if not quite as automated as this. :)

That probably isn't enough. They were made impervious because they became exploitable after getting stuck, and that continued even after an npc died and respawned.

Maanahr's maps and sketches will be present too.
Went rather well, I'd say... pretty much sold out.

Okay, actually the worst thing is there is no map! zip! nada!
[...]
the creator pretty much flatly refuses! "There will be no maps, because they ruin roleplaying!  Exploring is fun!"

It seems to me that this gets repeated quite a bit, but really, there are maps.
I'll admit there's not too many, they're not always helpful, they can be hard to find and the sketching system can use some more improvements. It's being worked on.
But using the tools available in-game right now, it is possible to create a good, detailed and accurate map. If you can't find one, make one.

I'd rather see them turned into a non-scaling effect, like chatbubbles. Although I use a lot smaller font for those too.

That's the default settings. Since you're using windows, your personal settings should be in %appdata%\PlaneShift\Options

As a work-around, you can crank up the mouse-speed beyond 100 by editing options/mouse.xml
A quick test showed that setting it over 100 has actual effect in-game, for me. (Using WinXP)

It isn't nearly the same thing, -relight recalculates the lighting of a map when it is loaded. It can take a few hours...

Wish list / Re: a log shortcut
« on: March 06, 2008, 07:12:30 am »
Er, no. There can't be ONE shortcut to the log files, because there is not ONE place. There is a different place for every user.

Nonsense. The names of the folders may be different, but every OS has some way to identify where it is. For Windows it's %appdata%\PlaneShift

I have seen the same thing happen a few times, at load-zones and after I was sitting for a while, stood up and took a single step. All stamina drained away very rapidly. If it was simply lag, it should drain at walking rate for a while longer than normal. Unfortunately has only happened a few times over a rather long period, and I don't know of any way to reproduce it.

I have the black side and hole too. (Win XP)  Well, had the black side, but relighting the map fixed that.
Back in 0.3.020 the map was fine in PlaneShift, but had the black side and hole in walktest. (CS 1.2)

General Discussion / Re: Explorers Guild Picture of the Week

Unfortunatly, I'm not good at drawing... the way I make these is closer to vectorizing existing images. Mainly screenshots, so far.
Unless you were looking to get your existing material as in-game sketches, I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help.  :sweatdrop:
