Mac OSX Specific Issues /
« on: April 11, 2005, 03:08:24 pm »
The osx version is down, there is currently no osx version (this is why there is no file) the good news is the mac team (er one man army of dyfer) is working on the new file. untill he has it up (which could be soon) we mac users get to enjoy the sunshine and play outside, (or in my case get some actual work done).

To Recap  (condensed from other threads):
File not found because it doesn\'t exist ,
File will be made, soon(tm)

Sugested waiting like actions:
Enjoy the spring time
Spend time with your (or find a) signifacent other
Get a tan, if possible.
Read a book (or the forums)
memorize something
and as always, please wait, and or read the forums before posting.

Hope it helps,,,

The Hydlaa Plaza / Sony Invention Beams Sights, Sounds Into Brain
« on: April 08, 2005, 12:58:45 pm »
ONLY a patent on the tech, not a prototype:
REPAEAT not a working model.
artical taken from another site:

LONDON (Reuters) - If you think video games are engrossing now, just wait: PlayStation maker Sony Corp (SNE.N). has been granted a patent for beaming sensory information directly into the brain.

The technique could one day be used to create videogames in which you can smell, taste, and touch, or to help people who are blind or deaf.

The U.S. patent, granted to Sony researcher Thomas Dawson, describes a technique for aiming ultrasonic pulses at specific areas of the brain to induce \"sensory experiences\" such as smells, sounds and images.

\"The pulsed ultrasonic signal alters the neural timing in the cortex,\" the patent states. \"No invasive surgery is needed to assist a person, such as a blind person, to view live and/or recorded images or hear sounds.\"

According to New Scientist magazine, the first to report on the patent, Sony\'s technique could be an improvement over an existing non-surgical method known as transcranial magnetic stimulation. This activates nerves using rapidly changing magnetic fields, but cannot be focused on small groups of brain cells.

Niels Birbaumer, a neuroscientist at the University of Tuebingen in Germany, told New Scientist he had looked at the Sony patent and \"found it plausible.\" Birbaumer himself has developed a device that enables disabled people to communicate by reading their brain waves.

A Sony Electronics spokeswoman told the magazine that no experiments had been conducted, and that the patent \"was based on an inspiration that this may someday be the direction that technology will take us.\"

(Now this raises some ethical questions, and might just be the end of the world as we know it..    discuss....)

atari 2600,
simple games that focused on human interaction, I must have played warlords with my friends for well over 30 hours. not counting combat, woot, combat....

compare the hours of play / code line ratio with modern games....

Or muh xbox tough call I am a long time Bungie fan, and Halo 2 is a damn good game (damn trillogies)

You are no more \"screwed\" now than you were before you found out this game existed. In fact I would say less screwed. At least you know eventualy there will be an open source MMORPG that plays on our platform.

Some points to remember:
1) its an ALPHA
as in pre beta, just around the tech demo stage. Most aplhas are closed tests. Just be thankful this one isn\'t.

2) You didn\'t buy a mac for gaming.
well, did you? Most buy them for creative work (2d/vid), or the lack of viruses.  I bought mine for design work (video/2d/web).

3) The mac version is a one man thing.
As in right now, there is only one mac coder. He is also newly married. Oh and a full time University student. So give the man a break, unless you know c++ on a realy high level, AND are willing to help... he is doing the best he can. LEARN patience (it might be more than a hour).

sorry for the harshness, but seriously, can\'t we, as users of a game starved operating system, be THANKFUL for what we have going on?

Heheheheh I like this one, I went (a bit?) overboard...

Without the snazzy llighting layer. that I think makes the \"blues club\" feel....

ok, and I know, probably no blues club in PS, but, come on, he belongs there..

Cyl:
Thanks, but I only colored Xythe\'s wonderful drawing. If you take out the lines he drew you end up with a pretty ugly ball of color (I know I did it to see).

That said, glad you like it.

Xythe
by the way, I really like the way you draw, you leave everything open with just the right shading hints, it is a pleasure to color your work.
