Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /
« on: May 17, 2005, 07:44:00 pm »
Hard to say, but you may not have enough memory. The first thing I would do is to shut down all tsr programs.  That is turn off all unnecessary processes that run in the background.  Try that, if that doesn\'t work, someone may have another suggestion.

PS has become what it is without the usual \"uptime at all costs\", and it will succeed with it. I don\'t like being cut off, but I will not even ask how long it is going to take, because I know that if it was avoidable, it wouldn\'t be down. The conclusion is that any delay is necessary, and whining about it is only going to make it take longer, by

1) wasting the dev\'s time
2) reducing their motivation

This has been the very first downtime for months, and it even has been announced! Seriously, even if it took one more week I would know that it is because it cannot be avoided, so what good would whining do? It wouldn\'t help a commercial game as well, the only thing they would do is bring a shabby server up, running the old version, wasting more dev time. PS doesn\'t need such silly marketing tricks.

You would know all of this if you had been here during the end of MB times...

Oh, BTW, I know what the \"B\" in the title is standing for, and you should be banned for that, from both forum and game.

I guess you have the perfect answer for everything, and your answer for anyone who differs from your opinion is to ban, kill or dismember.  I know your kind has run off more potential players than has attracted.

Moderators, Seytra is the only one who can provide the true answers to everything.  So I will not post anymore.  Hell, I won\'t play the game anymore.  Let Seytra play with himself.

You have proved that you have the right to shut down a thread, and you probably did the right thing on the AAAAAAArgh thread I was last on, and you may do it here, but I am going to finish my point.
It has gotten so belabored that the developers are \"working for FREE\", they are \"devoting their time\" and all that.
Let me say up front, I have enjoyed the fruits of their labors.  Admittedly, there are still a lot of bugs, but I (we, the users) have learned to adapt or work around them for the time being.
As users, we sometimes do take for granted the work that is put into a project and not give adequate consideration for the people, or the time put into it.  The inconsiderate user should be taken into account and treated as such, but not attacked by the programmers and developers and called names.
It would be unfair to charge for a game that goes down for maintenance and doesn\'t come back online when promised.  It would be unfair to charge for a game that uses semi-professional people to administer it.  See where I\'m coming from.  You get what you pay for, and you pay for what you get.  As long as these programmers/developers keep the attitudes of \"take it or leave it,\"or \"we\'re doing this for free, so kiss our rings,\" you will be lucky to stay in the bush league, if you don\'t fail.  Ask a few of the others that have gone by the wayside, and a lot of MMORPG\'s have.
As a final note: You should keep the game online as much as possible.  Some folks get very addicted to this online stuff and get nasty when you take away their candy.:)

So you want to get into the frey, or are you trying to kiss-up to the dev\'s?
Read again.
I didn\'t agree with what ajdaha had to say, but he did have the right to express his feelings.
The \"moderators\" only complained back, called either he or I \"stupid,\" (yes he did), and took a \"take it or leave it\" attitude.
I\'m glad other professions don\'t look upon their work like these people do.

As to not posting on the forums in the first place, don\'t ask me. I wasn\'t even there when this update started :-)

There you go with the smart-ass attitude.

Dutch is NOT German. Dutch is spoken in the Netherlands and the north part of Belgium. What you were speaking is German.

I definitely know the difference.  I have been to both countries....in fact I have traveled Europe quite extensively.  And that was an apology, and kudo\'s for being bi-linguial.

That was only in response to an arrogant attitude from the person I was replying too.

That\'s not nice from someone who wants to be IN CHARGE.

See if the game was up and running....neither one of us would be here.  :)

Hmm... I\'m risking to insult the PlaneShift users here (which I don\'t want to do) but I have some doubts about that statement in general :-)  At least it doesn\'t match with my experience so far. And I manage quiet a bit of Open Source projects (and get to meet a lot of users in that respect).

But of course one can never generalize. There are stupid people in every area and there are smart people everywhere too.

Greetings,

I was underwhelmed at that post.
You may be a GREAT programmer and sought after the world over (did I misread you?), but stupid is everywhere.
It was a developer that started this mud-slinging.

A lot of things have changed and a few of those things are rather hard to setup right. The problem is merging the work of different developers and making sure the art fits the new things.

Now why didn\'t you post that somewhere on the forums in the beginning?  And I disagree with you on the time estimate.  Give an over-estimate, it will keep the wolves from your door.

I\'m not a native english speaker. I speak Dutch normally.

Ich auch deutche gesprechen, aber kann nicht scriben.
I apologize.

Sorry but if you are reading that out of my statements then I think you should read that again. That was NOT what I said at all.

Then reread your statements before posting.  You definitely took an arrogant attitude in your first posting.

We made no such commitment. See the note at http://laanx.fragnetics.com:

New client should be released on Sunday or Monday if there are no major problems.

This was your committment, look up the definition.

Especially note the if there are no major problems. Well we hit major problems.

Okay, understandable.  Give us another estimated time, maybe disclose the type(s) of problems so we can sympathize.

We don\'t know when it is ready now. We are working on it hard. But we are currently hampered by different timezones and people sleeping when others are not so it is hard to get good progress.

I trust you are better at programming than you are in English.

Where did I say you are idiots? I just was complaining about the fact that people are taking our work for granted.

You didn\'t say, you inferred by complaining.  Maybe you need to go back to your kids, house and garden.

Now, now, Jorrit.  That wasn\'t a very nice reply.  Maybe we don\'t see or understand your side, but you don\'t see ours, either.
Regardless, of the the game being free or not, the programmers made a committment to have the game back up by Monday.  And regardless of being an excuse-ridden programmer, the game should have been back up at that time or at the very least, another posting with an explanation and another time.
People can get addicted to things.  This game is one.  That\'s why the anxiety, and maybe they really like the game.  You should have known that before you put the game online.  If you did not want to contend with this kind of audience, you should have had a closed alpha, or beta or whatever.
But don\'t come across to us that just because you are devoting your free time that this is YOUR game and we are snivling idiots.
You are taking GOD-MODE  too far.

Thanks Aiselyn for posting on the forum.  I just went to the bugtracker and logged there.  I didn\'t know whether to post this item on forum or not, if there was to be discussion of it or not.  But now that you have;
At last track I see the bug was assigned to acraig.  I know the problem will be solved for future editions,,, but my question is: will the dev\'s do anything about my present character?  Will you take the time to fix my character so I can enjoy it, instead of playing with a cripple?  My sword and armor is way up there.  My strength and endurance has been raised a few points but I didn\'t want to spend too much if I\'m not getting proper credit.  I would appreciate knowing whether or not Teegress will be \"fixed.\"  Please, let me know!

I like the concept of this game.  Of course, it is these developers version of the Dungeons and Dragons from way back when.  Diablo attempted to do what you guys are doing better.....but it\'s not there yet.
All I can do is kill rats, kill tefus and kill thugs to get ahead.  I\'m bored.
I\'m not technically minded, so I cannot help with the builds or anything like that.  But if you need a beta-tester, I will volunteer...because I do enjoy the game and the graphics....keep up the good work and I will check back with you in a few weeks/months/years.

I did use the search :)
Read slowly:
In the inventory, under the word tria, under the word weight there is another word:  capacity.  There are two numbers that follow that.  What do they mean?
