Texture compression solved it, good advice.

I didnt try it before because of readme text: "2) Some graphics cards have problems with texture compression. If you
experience problems loading the game......"

I didnt have problems loading the game, so I didnt thought of this fix...

Anyway thanks! PS now finally works in normal speed....

So I installed anew to test your advices.

Settuped adaptive camera (or how it is called), 30 distance, 20 fps min. Turned shadows off. Resolution 1280x800. In Hydlaa still very far from being smooth...

So I guess I would have to lower the resolution as well... *shakes head*

Hello.

I used to play Planeshift on my old iBook G4, 1.2 Ghz, 512 MB ram and some ATI 64 MB card. On low settings one could barely play it, game experience was terrible (talking about new Planeshift with "updated graphic" - old Planeshift (3.0.12 etc.) was running smooth..).

So when I brought home this awesome piece of hardware (Macbook 2 Ghz Intel 2 Core Duo, 4 GB ram, NVIDIA 9400M 256 MB), I thought I would try Planeshift and see. Well I left settings as they were, except for resolution, which I switched to corespond with my widescreen and I ran the game. Game experience is again terrible, game barely playable... I just ran from inn to Hydlaa plaza and deleted Planeshift after.

I would like to point out what I did already in past. Before you start to object, that my Mac is not really so good, it runs WoW on max details smoothly not to mention other non online games. Now the point. Maybe its time to stop developing the new additions and finally do something with the game engine. As even Talad posted in one topic I read, this game cannot catch new MMORPGs in graphic quality, still it requires way better hardware than these games and thats probably.....wrong.

I still look back on old awesome 3.0.12 version, which ran smoothly even on old G4, had -fullbright and other positives... New Planeshift 5.0 release will probably need four processor computer with 4 graphic chips and 1 TB of RAM to run ok (while changes in graphic will be barely visible to me, like in case of PS 3 -> PS 4).

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Many areas are totally black.
« on: December 06, 2008, 09:25:24 am »
Hello,

Yes, I have searched forums first, for good one hour, havent found solution for me. Although I found topics with people having same problems. I tried some ideas mentioned, which only destroyed my installation, now it crashes on start. So... Lately I have tried to install Planeshift again and to my surprise its working on my G4.... In past updates, with graphic changes, game was unplayable, now it runs somehow ok.

But... Many textures are simply only black. Starting in some parts of Hydlaa, through tunel heading to Arena, through almost every other area. So basically its unplayable anyway, when you cant see anything. I still have to cry about old -fullbright, which removed all these problems and also made the game so much merrier.. Planeshift surely is the most darkā„¢ fantasy world ever.  ;D

Any easy way how to remove this problem? Best would be if I could download remade maps somewhere, without shadowing at all. Its only depressing anyway. Thanks.

When me and my friends still played, we had -fullbright on all time. Not just because of computer speed but Planeshift is the darkest and most depressing word I ever seen.

So not everyone really enjoys "the beautiful shadowing".

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: can i play this game?
« on: January 08, 2008, 08:26:23 am »
i hv 1gz 1gb ram 32 mb video =(((
lol can i use the setings program on 10.4 os x?

I cant play with G4 1.2 Ghz, 32 mb grap. I can't move in Hydlaa at all, re-light no longer works for me (it does nothing for some reason) and each time I change anything in PS setus, PS just crashes and no longer works at all. ;)

Tested with more installs etc., I doubt you will be able to play it and still have any positive experience. Try Oberin, free, 2D, Mac only.

*modifying - by re-light I mean fullbright and yes, I know new engine doesnt support that

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: This game has become unplayable
« on: November 19, 2007, 08:50:28 am »
Yep, I have left Planeshift myself. Downloaded latest version and normal wilds where before I had almost no problems were just a series of pictures. Same like the the Fortress in version before. After relight I just had a huuuge lag and what for? I didnt notice better graphic. *shroughs* The PS version I enjoyed the most was 0.11 anyway.

So now Im running WoW without a problem. Im not going to buy new Mac just becauce PS cant run on this one when everything else does.  ;D

*EDIT

I couldnt help myself and after this post I recently did another test... Lag is indeed too much to bear. As surplus when I change anything at PS setup, PS crashes after trying to load the world. Tested with two separated PS folders, all the same. Tried to add no grass maps, no good. In short what I wrote up in this post is right.

Three.

Thanks for all the help. I know it steals a lot of time... I spent few days on it before I gave up... (no good softs, no knowledge, no skill in art  :D)

One person yet...

Ok, Im offering 4 perfect 300/300 daggers if I will USE the resulted emblem as reward.

/edit: two persons at the moment
/edit2: I got my hands on first results, very nice \\o//

Hello everyone,

as written in subject. I must admit that Im clumsy in these things. Me and my guild mates have come up with some, they were ok, but ok is not enough... If there is anyone who would like to try and make me emblem or two, send me PM or tell me here.

1) it would NOT be for Planeshift guild (nor WoW dont worry, heh)
2) I cant pay much... Triases eaten by training and my precious silverweaves destroyed by Talad (I still see this as evil plot against successful players. :P).
3) Format: PNG with transparancy is preferred, but jpeg, tiff, pict, EPS will be fine.
4) Size: No bigger than 300x300 pixels.
5) example (which would not do, I dont like it at all) is here http://www.oberin.com/images/emblemex.jpg or second much better here http://romanempire.purpleandgrey.com/ (in up left corner ;)).

If there is anyone, thanks in advance,

Danveld

PS: Ill send more infos to that person of course.

(I hope it will not be locked since its related to another game, its off topic right? *gulps*)

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Safari Browser
« on: June 20, 2007, 04:52:54 pm »
Wow. Nice criticism.

As long time Mac user (at home, meeting PCs at school/work) Im of course running Safari... I have tried IE (on PCs or Macs) which is useless. I have tried Opera and Firefox and Netscape and no thanks... Safari is quickest (yes it is, I dont understand what is Link talking about, what system and comp you have? :O), everything I found out works on it, it has everything I need. If you have found unsupported pages, its more their shame. :P

Safari 3 is beta, I have tried it, found and reported bugs and returned to older version. Wait for final release.

General Discussion / Re: Are the Smelters of Gold Being Greedy?
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:40:50 pm »
Smelting a pack full of gold, 40 for example, takes about 15 minutes while digging it will take anything from an hour on up, usually more.

Yes, but what you are forgetting is that in order to smelt gold you have to spend a large quantity of time and trias in order to progress to the level of skill it takes to smelt gold. It is not a one or two day task. It involves a lot of progress points and time. So to say it takes only 15 minutes to process the gold is true, but it took a heck of a long time to get to that ability. It is like in real life, your Med.School trained surgeon makes all the money even if the assistant is doing more work. There is a premium for knowledge and learned skill. So it is fair.

Hehe, actually mettalurgy takes about two days to max out, mining takes far more time :P.

Question, why do we even need stats? We dont need them to RP do we? True that PS gives the choice to level and kill mobs and so on, but its moved from RP to a more WoW game filled with more and more leets, and less and less true rp'ers. More god-modders.. more more more of the wrong people that ruins even the best rps.

Actually I thought about the same. And yes, if I knew such a game I would leave it here and go there. ;)  I can imagine a game with no leveling or some limited version where you wouldn't have to run from town and kill everything on sight. At start you would make similar choices like when creating PS character and you would choose for example talents. That would generate your character (different race statistic + talents + choosed life options) and here you go. Fighting would have to be tricky. You could still learn things like crafting etc. etc. I would rather see more options for players which could "change the world" (houses, castles, player made cities, wars), involved in world policy, tons of role playing than insane levelling to be the best. (hey dude whats your swords? Pfft I have 265 already!)
BTW: this system enforces even a player which dislike it to go and more or less powerlevel up. I cant imagine how my character role play would fit if he was the weakest person around...

Im saying that as person which played 3 MMORPGs at once, thanks GoDs I left at least that moronic WoW :S. So Im not lazy, thats not it. ;D

But thats not going to happen here. So let me just continue whinning about 300 levels cap not being a good idea. :P (it will be "fun" to go for it I suppose *sighs*)

Using shortcuts is .

About powerlevelling and less role playing. I started one topic in past where I (in short) wrote that I really dislike raising off all level caps up. Reason was simple, the more levels in each skill, the more powerlevelling people you get, the less role play. If the game stayed on numbers before, it would be much better, because when powerleveller hits max levels he is done. Nothing to do, game is terrible, farewell. ;) No one supported me there though and topic got closed. ::)

So when we finally hit 300 levels in each skill we will have 95% of powerlevelling people and 5% of role players. Thats how it is, you can think or tell what you want.

Lately Im also amused by the number of people who uses non english languages (I was very lucky with french lately) in main chat and they dont even react on [english only] sentences. Kills any role play at all.

Complaint Department / Re: Quests which cannot be abandoned...
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:11:49 pm »
I'm not sure how well developed your character is, it sounds like you have not put too much effort into training but perhaps I am mistaken in that. If that is the case you might be better off just starting a new character.

One thing is certain though, once you have trained up you stats as much as possible stamina is much less of a problem. Currently I can get from Hydlaa to the top of the BD fortress resting only once or twice with a normal load. I usually run around with half my capacity of junk in my pack, fully unloaded I might not have to stop at all. In this state walking uses no stamina and even allows some regeneration, give or take a few pounds of load. At least that has been the case up to now everything is subject to possible change.

Please take this as friendly advice and not criticism as this is what I have found to be useful but your goals may differ.

I have maxed all basic stats, maxed daggers and other skills on high levels. I might not be seen as much and surely not much last months but I put lot of effort to my character. Starting anew would be painful :O.

I know you have to rest one or twice but if you are doing the trip 5 times per day, there and back again (since when I dont go to uni Im online around 14 hours per day)... Its like 10 mins for full rest? If we took 5 times x 2 + back way = 20 rests for 10 mins, 200 mins, over 3 hours lost... I hope someone will realize its not good way. If you (anyone) make one trip per day and the rest of time stick around Hydlaa, Arena or spawn point I guess it doesnt bother you...

These things made me change my mind and make Planeshift secondary MMORPG to me again some time ago.

Thats little out of topic which was about the quest list, so sorry about that long respond. Of course no offense taken by your post.  ;D

I find the real issues lie with knowing when a quest isn't being done in the right order, it is bugged at that moment or you're just not saying the right things. All three situations can give trouble in a quest but you can't distinguish between them.

Also when certain quests involve items but one loses that item for some reason (stupidity or simply a crash with bad timing) the quest gets stuck.

So I do hope the Devs don't plan on keeping the current situation where quests cannot be discarded and retaken.

Yes, one is after very uncertail - did I quest wrong? Is it buged due to other quest? Did I make it in wrong order?

But I usually ends knowing I did it right... (It would be shame else, since some of my friends already see my 30 mins logs debating with NPCs ;)) For now even deleting them would do the job for me. I dont wish to restart them. But even if I took some new now, Im afraid they would be messed up in the general super mess I got in quest list. Depressing.
